Don’t know if I can trust you, Michael... You literally make ANYTHING sound good! Great to know you are getting more into impulse responses and cab simulation, would love to hear your thoughts (if you have any) on the reactive loadboxes such as Suhr and if that really makes a difference in tone
Thank you for the video. Hope your finger is okay now :) ordered my OX Friday and getting it soon. Information about "no speaker cab needed" made me buy a Marshall head to day saturday. Thanks again.
Love your channel man!! It’s great! Love my ox!! Definitely helped me make a decision on it!! Really enjoying it and glad I pulled the trigger on it! Thank you for making this!
Michael....You are going to love this thing. I accidentally got shipped early and have about 15 hours on it since the software went live. It is a great device. Look forward to your next video on it....
This seems like the winner for me over the Suhr reactive load box, BUT it only comes to work with apple products and I don't have any... I asked and they have no plans to add PC compatibility and I can't afford this plus an apple computer, lol.
Nice review! I became familiar with the UA OX through That Pedal Show and was looking for another good RUclips review. Your sound/video quality, editing and production for this channel looks really good! I subscribed - thanks for the content!
Hi Michael I just bought the OX Universal Audio and tried to get it running from my Apogee One interface. I receive signal from my amp that passes through the OX but when I enter through the instrument input in my Apogee it does not reproduce any cabinet sound or effects, delay or reverbs trom the Ox. I can't find it from the Logic either. Please can you help me with this? I will thank you forever.
LMAO!! Great video, loved it. You stuck true to you word in not opening the book! ha ha ha! As always, love the chops, and can't wait to see/hear more on the OX!
Yep. The iPad software is optional. You can hook it up as an analog "middle man" between your head and cab, and just turn some knobs until you get the flavor you want.
Michael is so much cooler and charming than Rick Beat-o ever could be. He's not trying to impress you the way that guy does and gets more in-depth without that stereotypical studio opinionated attitude. Plus his playing is more musical and diversified, which helps everyone.
Why do you use that on the Friedman BE-100 amp? If the BE-100 is anything like the BE-50 Deluxe amp, that I own, if you turn on the effects loop on the back, you can use that volume button to attenuate the amp, and get just as good of a tone, at bedroom volumes, without taking any tonal quality from the amp. I figure that you might be able to teach me something, since your knowledge base and playing is Phenomenal. Thanks for the video. After watching Dave Weiner's demo of the BE-50 with a Friedman Cabinet, I bought that rig and was blown away by the sound. My tonal amp quest is over with. Dave Friedman is a Tonal God!
Excellent video... will you be doing a comparison video of this vs. the Two Notes offerings? Or have you already thoughts you'd be willing to share? Thanks!
Larry Tate yeah,it looks like a small section fell out of a Kemper !I still don't know if that Kemper amp head looks good or not either. At 3000 bucks II don't think it does .It looks like a toy too!
Gary Hundsrucker yeah I agree they both look kinda funky and at that price, they probably could have done a little more R&D as far as presentation. But, if it works , I can get past the looks. I’ll just hide it behind some other piece of gear lol.
I have a question and I’m trying to figure out how to frame it in as few words as possible. Here goes: i’ve seen the thing used as an attenuator and it has notches 0 thru 5… the intention is to use that to attenuate a live speaker cab and that’s great. What I want to know is, if you are using the stereo outputs to record it into your DAW “directly” without a speaker cab involved at all, does it matter how loud you turn up your actual amp on the master volume? Does the attenuator aspect of it still come into play? Or does the Ox simply adjust, no matter how much master volume from your amp you give it? I’m going to watch it on the big TV later, just to see where the knobs are, 12 minutes into this video!
Jhon Ackerman I don’t know if this answer is useful to you 6 months late, but yes it definitely still makes a difference. The main thing it changes is that you can push the power section of your amp to the sweet spot without blowing your ears out - but still record it at that point.
It actually works quite nicely. The 2150 has a really loud fan, so that’s a bit of a bummer if your in the studio with it. But it sounds so good, it’s worth it! Q
Nick...did you ever get an answer on this question. Was wondering the same thing, so I downloaded the manual and it seems you can run line outputs from the OX directly into powered studio monitors. At least that is how I interpret it.
Michael Nielsen Hi Michael, thanks, yeah I thought it was a Beijer, I exchanged quite a few emails with Robert on building one .. but by the time we got to the point of what I really wanted it was going to be over 8K, so I sorta lost interest, then I saw yours and thought hey .. maybe someone else is making these too (and it might be less) lol. Anyway beautiful desk man, and I enjoy your videos even though I’m not even a guitar player (well not a serious one at least :D ..... Chris
@@chrisstrobel3439 Yeah. They're pricey, but it's custom and hand made, and I sit at this desk everyday all day. If I didn't get a Beijer, I'd 100% get an Output Sound desk output.com/products/platform
That is some delicious tone there. I love Friedman amps.... Is it practical to use the OX with multiple amps? You have that fancy switcher dealie - can you use them together? Wondering about the OX presets and iPad UI and such. Oh, so wait - did i miss it? What were you playing through? Were we hearing the studio monitors, or direct?
Michael Nielsen Could you explain how you could switch between amps for the OX? I use a two amp setup but cant figure out how it would work if I got one
I'm also curious on how you would switch tops ? would you need something in the fashion of a Palmer TINO Two In One Amp Selector ? to deal with the loads of the other heads ?
Hello. Would you recommend for just being an attenuate for live playing? I have a 1979 Marshall JMP 100 watt Superlead. Thanks. Sounds killer in your video.
This is the first demo of the OX that has actually made me want to try it. More than the OX though, I need more info on your studio desk. Is it custom made? I've never seen anything like it.
Thanks. That was custom built by Robert Beijer of Beijer Workstations here in LA. He does amazing work. He's building me a furniture rack for my guitar rig right now.
Hey Michael I was only able to catch the first few minutes of this demo. I see you set the “Line Out” pretty high(75 %???). Are you taking the Line Out straight into your AD for Logic? Thanks!!
Armando Diaz correct. Straight into the DAR A to D converter. There’s enough level to blast way past the converter clipping if needed. It’s a nice hot level.
Michael Nielsen Thanks! I just purchased a Suhr Reactive Load recently and found the output level very low when going directly into my Digidesign 192 I/O. I wound up sending it back to Suhr to have them test it. Still haven’t received it back.
Michael Nielsen Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. Demoed it with a BE-100 and had to turn the Level knob on the RL up to full just to get around -25dB on the meters. Definitely not right. Thanks again!
James, you win a prize! Yeah, I'm trying out some different pickups. I tried a Tone Zone, and that was a PAF Pro. I liked the original, but want a little more power. I like the Tone Zone, but it's to dark and bassy. Not loving the PAF Pro in this guitar. I'm gonna try to get my hands on one of the new Friedman Classic + pickups.
Michael Nielsen nice yeah let me know how the classic + goes just picked a Friedman Cali and I’m definitely interested in the classic + 🤔.. I can never leave well enough alone
Hi Michael, this thing is hot man,..and your playing is so tasty,...I love guys with nice vibrato and taste I think this makes you sound really pro!!! cheers, from hungary, Steve Balassi
Thanks! Mono or Stereo? Too bad the room, mics and efx can't be altered afterwards like a plug-in. Yours was the best demo!. It seems UA is showcasing it live application whereas its best use is allowing you to record classic amp heads straight into a DAW.
Wicked video again man. After watching this vid, I watched Rabea Massad's latest video - ruclips.net/video/gomI7UQGj7c/видео.html where he has also picked up a UA OX. Don't watch loads of guitar based vids but you fellas are kinda my RUclips 'tutors of tone'. The UA thing is just one of those not so massive coincidences but I wondered if you were aware of each other? Anyway, great Channel. 😁👍
How come when I play the Friedman amps at GC they sound muddy with no punch and yours sounds terrific? Perhaps the master turned down really doesn't work for these amps.
This thing SUCKS!!! Be warned that it only connects to your computer with wifi and the wifi drops constantly if it works at all. There is no usb cable to connect to this device. At this price you would expect more thoughtful engineering and utility. The customer service at Universal Audio is non-existent. Don't waste your money.
Dude, you are hysterical. The metal music + paper cut = almost spit out my morning coffee!

I'll be keen to hear your thoughts on how this works in a mix as opposed to a typical reactive load/IR setup. Sweet tones and chops in this clip.
Love your channel man!! It’s great! Love my ox!! Definitely helped me make a decision on it!! Really enjoying it and glad I pulled the trigger on it! Thank you for making this!
Excellent video Sir. Very tasty tones!! That Friedman is all Balls! Fantastic!!

Wow, Feb 1 2018! They've around that long already? Seems like they just came out! I live under a rock apparently.
This seems like the winner for me over the Suhr reactive load box, BUT it only comes to work with apple products and I don't have any... I asked and they have no plans to add PC compatibility and I can't afford this plus an apple computer, lol.
Yup, eliminated it for me too. Fuck Apple, btw.
This was very insightful, but also very funny.

Unboxing boxes of ox boxes

Next September is it simple to set up? I really want one now😂
Yep. The iPad software is optional. You can hook it up as an analog "middle man" between your head and cab, and just turn some knobs until you get the flavor you want.

Thanks for making this video.
Great vid. I have the Two Notes Torpedo Studio. I am thinking I want to try these guys “head to head”.
Do it! Is it me or does this thing sound incredible?
My OX just came in today. Tomorrow I start into it.
Wayne Carlson congrats!!! I’m sure you’ll love it!
Love your profiles for the Kemper as well. Big Hairy...Your playing is outstanding. Love video and audio inserts .. cracked my up...
This sounds pretty awesome! Hopefully there will be some videos put out for heavier styles of music.. thats my only concern
Once they release a Vintage 30 4x12, or some other modern 4x12, I’m sure it will be more suitable for very heavy modern music.
hi, what is the output used by the jcm 900 head?
So a year later, what are your current impressions of the OX?
Ya know. I'll do a video about that. Great idea.
Great. Value your opinion on this.
Sounds great! Nice video 👍🤘
Man that Shirley smokes! Need that amp quick. Going to sneak it in when my girl ain’t looking.

Overall ... super bright? Seems like the Suhr, at many $ less, is just as good....?
Lol, your editing is top notch.
Great vid sir.
Sounds good, sorry about the paper cut!
Ha! Thanks Jimmy!
Could a device that's about 200 notes do the same thing?
Great video!
Anyone ever tell you you look like Johnny Bananas? There are some mighty tasty sounds in that box! Great "unboxing" :)
Interesting to know how you think it works with the Soldano X88 and VHT 2150...
It actually works quite nicely. The 2150 has a really loud fan, so that’s a bit of a bummer if your in the studio with it. But it sounds so good, it’s worth it! Q
I have the exact same rig and thinking of trying the OX with it...
Antonio Saluena There’s some other options to check out now. The new Suhr load with IRs, and the new Boss amp expander.
Thank you very much, I will! The OX sounds great though, and seem simple to use... good for me! :-)
You have any videos using your Soldano VHT rig?
Yeah, I use it a bit ruclips.net/video/buPuZ9jHPmM/видео.html
How does it compare to the two notes stuff?
How does this thing feel when you play it? Is it true what they claim it responds nice under fingers? The tone is bitchin!
Better than the Torpedo bother?
So... anything particularly good about it?
Hi Michael can you advice either UA OX or Boss Wazza Tube amp expander?
Hi. Sorry Reza, I haven't tried the Boss yet. I'm running behind. :(
@@BigHairyGuitars Will be waiting til you do. Thanks for the quick reply. Love what you are doing. Stay blessed.

Is it possible to connect studio monitors directly to the OX box or would I need to run it through a program like logic?
Nick...did you ever get an answer on this question. Was wondering the same thing, so I downloaded the manual and it seems you can run line outputs from the OX directly into powered studio monitors. At least that is how I interpret it.
I got half through this demo and realized that the cost is 1,399.00 and that's when I stopped watching......
Hey Michael, if you ever happen to read comments here again .. who made your keyboard workstation desk? Thanks man
Hi Chris, I read EVERYTHING! hahahaha! It was made by Robert Beijer or Beijer Workstation in SF Valley,
Los Angeles.

I love that neck pickup!! What is it?
Jay Lawrence that’s the stock Friedman/Jackson neck. Maybe called “classic”

Suhr Reactive Load vs. UA OX. Forgetting about/putting aside the various features of each box: which one sounds more true to the amp plugged into it?
That video is coming. :)
Ah! I love it. Can't wait!
Michael Nielsen And a kemper without AI into this vs the real deal.
Awesome, can't wait either! Hope you can throw in a few chuggy old school thrash riffs for us old school palm muting guys lol.
Two things:

Hard to say. BUT, I play the BE100 VERY VERY quietly often, and it doesn't sound muddy. Perhaps the speakers in their cabinet are wonk???
