  • The former boomtown of Jerome Arizona is now a famous haunted ghost town where people come from all across the state and even across the world to explore. The old Phelps Dodge city was a former mining boomtown that used to extract millions of tons of Copper Ore after World War 1. The town suffered a major setback during the Great Depression and never rebounded. With that being said the tourism industry in Jerome is picking up and has become one of the main attractions in the Verde Valley of Arizona.
The Jerome Grand Hotel is considered haunted since it was the old hospital.
People have reported seeing orbs of white light and other paranormal activity at the hotel.

Enjoyed that Jerome tour very much. Our family lived and worked in Jerome from 1975 to 1981 and established the restaurant and saloon where the Haunted Hamburger is now. It began as the dream of Phyllis Frank, our mother, who sold everything she owned and bought the building; a former old boarding house. Son, Lane, a master carpenter, converted it to her specifications including knocking out the wall on the top floor and putting in a huge window overlooking the Verde Valley far below. Living there was an unforgettable experience. The kids were little and had a magical adventure every day. There were many spooky things that happened as the narrator said. I personally had fireballs zip past my ear walking up from Main Street. Strange lights hovered over the valley and odd noises were heard in the old buildings. It was an enchanting time for us all and one we'll never forget. Definitely worth visiting. And Mingus Mountain - stupendous!

Nice video.I work in Jerome as a tour guide, so i can clear up some information for you. The towns population currently is about 455 residents. The Grand Hotel was the 4th and last Hospital opened in 1927.Turned into a Hotel in 1996. Has 29 rooms currently. (the one down the street was 1917) I am also a local artist and display my work inside the House Of Joy, and inside the Tours Of Jerome office inside the New State Motor Company shops and Museum. Other Museums are the little Historic Society Museum on main street, which is only $2 a person, and the Douglas Mansion, now Museum in the State Park below. The toilets and other things to toss coins into in the lower level of the Once Bartlett Hotel (1901) raises money for the Jerome Historic Society.

Crazy story I drive for a transportation company in Phoenix driving a 26ft uhaul truck and I had to deliver some tires in Cottonwood and Prescott. I drove to Cottonwood first then put the address in the GPS to head to Prescott and it gave me the option to go thru highway 89A or thru Jerome, I said f it I'll go thru Jerome.( I had never heard of Jerome) I drove up to the little town when I finally realized I had f up badly! I quickly parked and walked around to see if I could find a exit but I didn't find one. I decided to keep following my GPS and it took me thru some of the most narrow roads I have ever driven on, then my heart dropped and I saw a sign with a uhaul truck on it and it read " No commerical trucks without permit." I kept on trucking took me about an hour to get out of there when my manager called and asked where was I, i told him wat had happened he said if i were to very pulled over without a permit I would have gotten a $10,000 minimum ticket and the uhaul truck impounded.

I stayed at the Jerome Grand and I was awakened in the middle of the night to what sounded like someone dropped a small piece of flatware and it bounced on a table. I woke up in the morning because my phone alarm had gone off, it was a Monday morning and I had forgotten to disable it for the day. When you check in to the hotel, they give you a key to your room and a key for the elevator. They were hanging on my purse and my phone was in it. When I reached in to take the phone out to turn it off, the keys clanged together, it was the same sound I heard in the middle of the night.

How can you have a video of Jerome without playing "Old Jerome" by the late great Kate Wolf?????
    Drinking early morning coffee,
    talking with good friends,
and walking the streets of rough cut stone
She was once a miners’ city,
now the ghost of a dying town,
but there’s a fire burning bright in old Jerome.
    Some have come for fortune,
    some have come for love
and some have come for the things they cannot see
Now the grass is green and growing
where the gardens once had died
and the birds sing in the young Ailanthus trees
And they say that once you live here,
    You never really go
‘cause she’ll have a hold on you until you die
    With her ground moving crazy,
    Her fierce wind blowing free
And her ruins standing proud against the sky
    Houses cling to mountains
    like miners cling to dreams
they hold on so long and then they just let go
And this mountain she’s your mistress,
you’ll ride her ’til you fall
and wash down to the valley far below.
There are stories that tell on Cleopatra
There are stories that never can be told
The wind and the rain sing their mountain lullaby
The copper shines like Arizona gold
And her walls stand strong and silent,
    Starin’ out with empty eyes
like beggars blind and lame that do no harm
With their empty rooms that hold
    the old town’s memories
and their doorways that reach out like empty arms
In the streets the children play,
    climbing up the crooked stairs,
and lovers touch and turn to go back home
And the sound of hammers echo
    in the once forgotten halls
and hope stirs in the heart of old Jerome
The moon shines bright on Cleopatra
Where the mines lie sleeping far below
The wind and the rain sing their mountain lullaby
And the copper shines like Arizona gold

Be careful driving there, as a large part of towns income is from ticky tac tickets. I watched the cops watching from a hidden area pulling people over for not coming to a complete stop. They were continuous with the tickets. The town also started a pay to park system a few years ago, and one of the cops has a wife who drives around non-stop giving out tickets. The town is now not motorcycle friendly as they charge to park by the bike not the space. The town use to have tons of motorcycles in it filing the Spirit Bar. Now the bar has just a fraction of the people in it. The bands were discontinued as well, but they told me that they were going to try having bands again. They were not sure if they would get enough people in the bar to make any money.
Essentially the town has decided to make money off the tourists, not caring if they piss them off as most of them there are only going to be there once.
The town itself is very cool, but you really have to watch yourself on the road. The speed limit is 20, and they write a lot of tickets for that too.

Is it not a ghost town of people love there? It’s a tourist ghost town. Just saw another video about a group of town in Oklahoma that are completely abandoned. Same with centralia PA.
