Well done. Great footage. Thanks for posting! That's a lot of buffalo. I did the upper loop of Custer SP in Sept. 2011 (as well as the Badlands NP on that same trip). Not much wildlife, yet the tourons were out. I enjoyed the loop very much, and had breakfast at the lodge. I wasn't disappointed about not seeing much wildlife, as I currently live close to YNP and worked 6 summers and 3 winters in the park (and have my share of wildlife stories from my YNP days).
I just cant imagine what it would have been like in the 18hundreds when one herd would have consisted of hundreds of thousands of Bison.... Man almost did it, good thing we stopped the madness.
You sure don't see that everyday!!!! I would love to see land set aside for them to roam from one end of the plains to the other like in the old days and just let them go. Lord, that would be a sight.
Miss Mary Jane Whitten, junior high social studies teacher collected family stories from her students and published a book. Seems that the bison herds would cover the distance from Omaha to Nebraska City, 40 miles.
They round them up and do health checks, vaccines, and also some are sold to people. They only keep around 1400 each year because they say that the land they roam can only support that many.

This really makes you wonder what it would have been like back in the day ? . . .

Would love to hear the thunder!

Buffalo is part of our national identity.
What makes the bison listen to be rounded up, the cowboys? I can't imagine doing this for a living because they are so powerful.
What was the reason for the 'round up'? Was it just for the tourists or did the bison really need to be harassed and relocated. Just wondering.

@@Henle15 thanks for your explanation. That makes sense.
Beautiful sight.
Don't look like 1400 buffalo to me. Perhaps 400 of the animals. Spectators numbered about 1400.
Spectators were around 12,000 according to the roundup and there was 1396 buffalo 🦬
been there once never heard that musical noise.
Listen next year and you will hear it!
I was wondering how bison meat ends up in the grocery stores. Now I know.
There are also bison farms where people raise them specifically for meat. Instead of cows or another animal, they have bison.
Can’t wait for the day when there are 14,000!
They limit the amount to around 1400 as the amount of land they live on can only support that amount.
Wrong round up--
Should be politicians, lawyers, criminals, judges, abusive managers, Ceo"s,
Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc
No Indians were injured in the making of this film.
I know that didn't look like 1400.
Just show them where the left are at.
No way thee is 1400 head there probably about 600 - 700 at the most .
Official report was just over 1400 🤷🏾♂️
Would rather have heard the thundering hooves than the repetitive music.
It was very windy and it was not fun to listen too so I replaced the wind with music.
Cut the music and let the sound of the herd be heard.
Was too far away and all the people chatting and making noise is why I put music instead. Thanks for watching!
@@Henle15 Ya, there is that. Thanks for the reply.
