Look it up bison were killed in mass to stop the indigenous food source so the natives couldn’t continue thriving

Pretty cool. I was on a mountain bike near the bluebird lodge/cabins in about 1990. Two bulls up ahead, on the road, herd behind. I went off road, through a creek, up a hill, found another herd. Back down to the road. Just stood there and thanks to a beneficent power, along came a truck towing a hay wagon with visitors. I rode on one side of the wagon while the bulls were on the other side. That was beer worthy. Really cool and great memories.

It is funny but I grew up watching Star Trek but the first thing I think of when I hear "Enterprise" is a Naval ship specifically an aircraft carrier. My father helped build the USS Enterprise CVAN-65 and saw in launch before I was born but he said that the US Navy will always have a ship named the Enterprise. The name "Enterprise" predates that particular vessel of course, so historically speaking, it was a great name for the writers to choose for the space craft. It would be a cool name for a motorcycle.
It is unbelievable. They came so close.

Yes until the colonial settlers committed mass slaughtering to attempt to sabotage the native Americans way of living, horrific stuff if you dig into the history of buffalo in the US, it’s not by accident they disappeared and it’s not by just “normal hunting” etc. Settlers essentially committed an attempted animal species genocide and were 90% successful. They knew it was the way to destroy the native food source and way of life and so they slaughtered them in mass and left them to rot in the plains

Yeah, this is why I drive a car through the park (well, that and the fact that I don't have a bike). Amazing footage, but I totally sympathize with "I'm scared." I don't see how you could be anything else with a 1000 lb animal running right at you! I'm no expert, but you did what I would have done in your shoes and it all worked out fine, so Good Job! I think it also helps that the herd at Custer State Park deal with vehicles pretty much all the time, so as long as you don't surprise them, they'll treat you like part of the landscape. Last winter we drove through, on to Wind Cave National Park and at the border between the two, we had a couple of buffalo come up and lick the road salt off our car. Phenomenal!

Awesome video, my wife and I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota 23 miles from Custer. We have come across a lot of Bison on our bikes but not that many. Are scariest event happened in Yellowstone a sow and her three cubs were coming straight at us down the middle of the road in a full blown traffic jam. With nowhere to go we did the same thing, turned our engines off, prayed and remained calm as we could. When she got within two vehicles away she went off to the shoulder of the road and up the hill into the trees. I was definitely scared at what could have happened.

Yes someone is thinking clearly. Bears & Buffalo will charge you & possibly Big Horn Sheep, if you are on a motorcycle. Your chances are probably way better in a vehicle, but man you are taking life risks not knowing your surroundings and depending on gods prayers when you find yourself in that situation that they made a Conscience decision, man I was waiting for the attack 🙏🏽🤷🏽🤣😆 What is it they say in the news now? “Play stupid games receive stupid prizes”

I was in Yellowstone Park on a snowmobile about 30 odd years ago...another female friend was also touring with me and we had a guide on their snowmobile...we went right by the Bison but my snowmobile went off the road into the ditch right by them. I had been told they were not dangerous but I sure felt insecure, my friend stopped her vehicle and helped me drag mine out of the ditch and off we went....this was b4 I ever heard about any of them mauling people....I guess we were both in a bit of danger and I thank God I had such a generous companion who helped me despite the risk to herself!

As a former motorcyclist and someone who did wildlife fieldwork at the National Bison Refuge, this was scary. Thank you, Lord, for hearing her prayers of "Thank you, Lord, for protecting us!" Several times we could see the bike's fairing in the foreground so we know the bison were literally right next to them. And to see several groups of them stampeding right toward them! This couple was truly blessed to see their prayers answered so dramatically!

They actually did that extremely well the best thing they did was turn off the bike, whisper and not move. a herd of animals will go around you unless their in a stampede best thing to do is just hold still don't speak loud don't make fast movements bovine act like bovine. personally I would have left the bike and gone up the embankment and got behind some trees when they first started coming towards me but then I worked with Buffalo when I worked for a veterinarian in North Dakota they did the second-best thing they could have done. They are very lucky they just passed
