    You should probably mention that you can't grab just any wrench out of your toolbox like you are implying. A chrome plated wrench will be toxic when it goes into the fire.

    After quenching why do they always check with a filer? Sorry i dont forged but just very curious...maybe one day..

    • @FilipHuzjak
      @FilipHuzjak  4 года назад +1

      Hi! When steel is soft, file bites in easily and makes usual "low" filing sound. When steel is hard, file doesn't bite in, it skates and makes that specific "high" skating sound. It is easy and fast way to check if steel is hardened.

    Is the oven used to cure it somehow?

    • @FilipHuzjak
      @FilipHuzjak  4 года назад

      Oven is for tempering. After hardening it is very hard and brittle, with tempering it becomes just a bit softer but much tougher. Every steel must be tempered after hardening, at least for knife making.

    What do you mean you burnt it!?

    • @Divine_Serpent_Geh
      @Divine_Serpent_Geh 4 года назад

      Steven Rathburn I’m no metallurgist, but when Steel gets too hot, even hotter than forging temperatures, the grain becomes too large and the steel just loses all its good properties. It looks bubbly and it kinda just falls apart. There’s really not much that can be done about this, except cut the portion that got burnt and continue; that is if you have enough material.
      In this case the wrench being a small medium to work with, was just scrapped.

    • @garycarraigeacha8794
      @garycarraigeacha8794 4 года назад

      When it is so hot it glows white, the steel is then ruined in that area. You have to watch that it doesn't get past a bright yellow.
