Just to clarify, there's no gameplay of this track in Mario Kart 8 because I never added it to the game. All I did was update the model in Blender. Bringing that then into Mario Kart 8 is something else entirely that would likely take me another week to figure out. Anyone who wants the file, the link is now in the description for an FBX file of the track. I've removed the lights and camera, which I'm assuming would be done in the process of adding the track to the game. If anybody feels compelled to do so, that would be awesome! Just let me know if there's any thing else I can provide to help!
This is insane! Awesome work! The modding community is asking if you'd like to share the model so custom track creators can make this track a reality in game.
I've written some shaders with GLSL, including normal maps shaders. A simplified explanation of a normal map is that each pixel's RGB value represents a coordinate XYZ value. Hence the weird color. This coordinate is the vector for the direction you want light to be reflected off that pixel. The shader reads the normal map pixel that matches the texture pixel to determine how light should be reflected.
There is a track called Sunset Wilds that was supposed to do that, but Mario Kart 8 apparently couldn't manage it. Though if I remember correctly, there's an used version of DS Wario Stadium which has different weather settings. I don't know if it was simply testing or a geniuine idea that was too advanced to implement, but there has been an idea for a dynamic weather/time of day gimmick as far back as Mario Kart 8.
@@shanerpressley Might be hard to get working on multiplayer. I believe that is the reason why Sunset Wilds doesn't have the sun set over time in the Booster Course Pass/Mario Kart Tour version, unlike the original GBA version, where co-op wasn't done on the same screen.
My goodness, this is insane. The kind of stuff that inspires me to learn blender or photoshop or both. Even tho there’s a lot more custom models to make, I BEG for toad’s factory next. PHENOMENAL work, you’ve earned yourself a sub!
This turned out great! I recently had to use Blender to clean up some PS2 models for 3D Printing, so I definitely respect the work you put into this, it looks awesome!
This looks fantastic bro! You’ve actually inspired me to do some things with the Tour and Wii models and porting them to MK8! Really well done job with Luigi Circuit :)
this is so awesome, and something i've thought of doing in the past but never got around to trying. it would be cool to see other tracks from older games reimagined for 8 deluxe, or even levels from different mario games reimagined in a modern style mario game, like cool cool mountain or ricco harbour in the style of 3D world or odyssey! though those might be a bit much for one person lol, either way great video!
I hope These could get worked into a custom tracks with some tweaking! Imagine a fan made bcp wave 2! I’m probably over exaggerating but this was an amazing video. Subscribed!
you actually did a really good job with it the only thing I would of changed was the luigi statue as it doesn't really fit the style but everything else is great especially the parking lot area!
0:19 I mean, the ones that didn’t get included probably have a better chance of being included in 9 with full-effort remakes, so it might be a positive
Man, this looks really good. I really wish I could do this myself but I just don’t have the skill. I really do hope you continue doing these in the future.
Lighting is calculated using, among other things, the angle (dot product) between the direction from a point in space to the light, and that points normal vector - a vector which is orthogonal (perpendicular) to the surface at the point. The normal map displaces these normal vectors so light reacts as if, for example, there is a bump in someone where there is actually no geometry. Normal maps can displace normals on a per textel level rather than a per vertex level like with "real" geometry. Blue on a normal map represents a normal pointing away from the surface as it normally would, red is a displacement on the x axis, and greeb is a displacement on the y axis (all displacements happen in tangent space). Hope this helps :)
This is really awesome great job man. If I’d really have to nitpick I’d say I’m a little bummed you didn’t show any gameplay afterwards, but it was still cool to see the process. Also could you do one of the Bowser Castle courses next? Any of them will do really.
To be honest when i think of a luigi circuit remake, i alwayd think of the shortcut ramp as a glider, the pipes having gusts of winds to accomodate the change, and a ramp at the end of the dash panel section for some reason
7:14 - Isn't there a feature that smoothes chunky objects to look round? Like, you make a cylinder with just a few verticies but when you render the model, they are smoothed out to appear round. I barely know anything about blender but that is one of the few things I kept in mind.
youre meaning to tell me its that easy to remake an entire track from MKW?? damn hope to see more of this w/ tracks like Delfino Square or Wario Colosseum
wow, I love this. it looks like something that could actually be in Mario Kart 8. You should totally do Toad's Factory next, its a really underappreciated track in my opinion.
Dude this is awesome!! I had a cool idea that, if this track did make it into Mario Kart 8 deluxe the anti gravity section would be racing upside down on the bottom of the bleachers. Like, if the bleachers were above the regular road and the road curved to be apart of the bottom. That way the boost pads could keep their place, but just be part of an anti gravity section.
Thanks! That would be a cool anti-gravity spot. I was thinking of doing it on the bend where the Luigi statue is, so that you sort of go up at a 45 - 90 degree angle head level with the statue.
First video I’ve watched from this channel and it is great. Keep up the great work. One thing I’d like to know though is your outro song, sounds very catchy.
damn this man singlehandedly put more effort into remaking an older track than an entire team of developers at nintendo did for the booster course pass
@@vroom0925 well that's not the booster course pass is it? no matter what way you slice it porting over a track model from a mobile game and just scaling it to fit mk8 races is just plain laziness at the end of the day. if you look at almost any track in the booster course pass it sticks out like a sore thumb compared to what the tracks look like in base 8. it is both shameful to nintendo and a testament to charlie's skill and dedication that this one man puts more effort into making tracks look better than an entire team of nintendo developers
you know how in mario kart stadium you can see some audience members swinging some team flags in the distance? i thought that be a neat detail to add, great work either way though :)
Ohhhh my GOD it looks beautiful at night time You did outstandingly well on this, this looks better than the BCP, it almost makes me wanna make a Luigi Circuit arrangement lol
It’ll be a real shame if we never get any more retro tracks. I know the BCP is unfortunately over and Tour stopped updating, but that doesn’t mean tracks like Mushroom City and Broken Pier don’t deserve to come back. Let’s hope we get to see more in whatever Mario Kart comes next.
I would love for you to do more of these! It would be especially easier to do courses that are already in Tour (like Airship Fortress or Wario Shipyard)
This is great, I'd recommend you stick with the vanilla mario kart 8 design continuing forward. The community as a whole considers them visually superior.
I kinda wish i knew how to do this, it looks tedious, but also kinda fun to redesign your own mario kart tracks! And i'm glad you went with the more realistic artstyle of the main tracks i feel like that fits the game way more than the plasticky look seen in especially the earlier tracks. I'm fine with Toad Circuit in Mario Kart 8. The only changes necessary would be slightly enhanced grass.
