SEC Freshman Of The Year Jabari Smith 2021-22 Season Highlights | 16.9 PPG 7.4 RPG 42.8 FG%

- A consensus All-American, Smith was Auburn’s best player and among the best in the nation this season. His freshman season-and likely his only season of college ball-ends averaging a team-high 16.9 points per game to go along with 7.4 rebounds and 1.85 assists. He shot 42.8 percent from the field and 42 percent from 3-point range on the year.
“He’s such a great competitor and such a great teammate,” Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said. “He truly does love his teammates…. He’s been raised right. He’s got fantastic parents. He’s got great people around him. His AAU coaches, his high school coaches, his mentors -- he’s got it all. He really does. He’s not selfish. He’s hard-working. He’s disciplined. He’s got his routine.
“He’s a pro. He had a great experience at Auburn, and he made history at Auburn. So, I’m obviously very, very proud of him.”
Smith built his candidacy as a potential No. 1 pick by making impossible shots look easy all season. Those shots stopped falling at the worst time possible in a frenetic, up-tempo, small-ball game that saw Auburn completely fall apart in a loss to Miami, shooting 30% from the field and trailing from the opening tip.
Smith had easily his worst offensive game of the season, shooting 1-for-8 from 3 and 2-for-8 from 2, looking discombobulated by Miami's unorthodox style, and never finding any type of rhythm, like the rest of his team. Variance, and the extremely high degree of difficulty of attempts he lives off with his sped-up style will lead to nights like this on occasion, but it was still shocking to see it play out.
After 34 games, playing against an elite strength of schedule, NBA teams know exactly the type of prospect Smith is. Still, only two players over 6-6 have ever been drafted in the lottery after shooting under 45% from 2-point range (Cam Reddish and Ziaire Williams), and Smith's lack of explosiveness, extreme reliance on difficult jumpers and inability to create easy shots for himself or others inside the arc reared its head several times in this game, as it has all season.
On the positive side, Smith didn't go down without a fight, grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds, posting three blocks and showing terrific effort all game long sliding his feet on the perimeter and covering ground all over the floor. He was obviously distraught in defeat, and can't be solely blamed for the loss, as his entire team (and coaching staff) had a very poor showing.
Smith will still be a top-3 draft pick ultimately, but his chances of going No. 1 got a little bit smaller with this surprising upset, even if he'll surely still receive strong consideration depending on which team gets the pick. -- Jonathan Givony

Yeah that kinda freaked me out a little.
610 pure shooter with athleticism and shot creation. Number one pick in the draft
Get that man some quality guard play and he will change the league
Houston Rockets 🚀
kpj and jalen green are the best gaurd tandem to join vs cole anthony+suggs & shai+giddey. youre prediction will come true
The green and kpj/jabari pick & roll will be unstoppable. Rockets won the draft
@@babyj5566 you need to watch more of Jabari smith besides just highlights. It’s going to take some time for him to be a good inside scorer in the nba. He’s not a consistent finisher at all and he doesn’t get much lift. Now a pick and pop threat YES.
with the Magic getting the first pick, this is the guy to take .
Gotta disagree. I see a very good 3 & D guy with a sweet shot. That's a good thing, and he could turn into an All-Star, but what I don't see is the best player in this draft, and that's what a team with the 1st pick in the draft should be looking for. Both Banchero and Holmgren are more talented.
Smith is Rashard Lewis 2.0. A very nice player to have, but never the best player on a contender.
@@edwinramos4910 he’s gonna be better than Chet, the real debate is Paolo vs Jabari and Jabari plays like a taller and more athletic Khris Middleton he has higher upside than rashard Lewis
@@bmarsjpeg Chet is a better player now than Jabari, and he has more upside. The only issue with Chet is whether or not his extremely slight build will keep him from living up to his potential at the NBA level.
Jabari won't have that problem, but he's also not a physical specimen. You talk about his athleticism as if it's one of his strengths. I don't know what you've been watching, but athletically, he doesn't look special to me. He's certainly not unathletic, but both Chet and Banchero are better athletes for their size.
@@edwinramos4910 I never said he was a better athlete than both of them idk where you got that from and do you realize that Chet played in a weaker conference and didn’t look that great against competition and for Chet to really be effective he’s gonna have to put on some kind of weight, being a 7ft that weighs 195lbs he’s about to go against bigs and forwards that are almost double his weight he has too many red flags but he’ll be good if the right team develops him
@@bmarsjpeg You're right, you didn't say that Jabari is more athletic than either of the other two. But, you mentioned his athleticism in comparison to Middleton, and that gave me the impression that you felt that his athleticism helps make the case for him ending up being better than Chet.
I also agreed that Chet is risky because of his build. What I took issue with was you flat out stating that Jabari will be better than Chet. He's not better right now, and Chet has the higher upside. But, he also has the lower floor due to his build. Picking him would be a bit of a gamble.
You also mentioned Chet's performance vs better competition. Well, he didn't play poorly in the tournament. His scoring was down a bit, but that was because he shot less, not because he shot poorly. His rebounding and blocked shots were just fine by his high standards, and so was his defense. If anything, I felt that Gonzaga should've made more of a concerted effort to get him more shots when things got tough.
Jabari was the one who chocked when it mattered most. That sweet shot of his abandoned him when things got very tough. Auburn got curb stomped by Miami, 79 to 61, and Jabari shot 3 of 16.
All this talk about Chet and Jabari, but the truth is that if I were the Magic, I'd probably take Banchero with the 1st pick, or trade down to the 2nd or 3rd picks if either of the corresponding teams are interested. I believe Banchero has a higher upside than Jabari, has an NBA ready body, and will be effective offensively on day 1. He also got better when competition got tougher. He had a great tournament. His issue is defensive consistency. He'll need a coach that can get him to buy in on that end, like Kidd was able to with Luka.
Back to the thought about trades...I wonder if OKC would be willing to trade picks 2 and 12 for picks 1 and 32. If so, I'd jump all over that and take one of the top 3 with the 2nd pick, and also get a good player at 12.
LETS GO ROCKETS !!!! CANT WAIT FOR JABARI
Welcome to H Town!!
Best player in the draft
This is a Real NBA Prospect
Jabari Smith
Here after the Rockets are 7-17. Jabari started off the season pretty scared and nervous which lead to bad performance. In the last 10 games he’s shooting 42% from 3 and has made 3 or more 3’s 5 games in a row. Safe to say the Rockets got themselves a 6’11 generational shooter. Wish him the best of luck. Go rockets!
WELCOME TO HOUSTON BRODIE
if he can work on his handle he'll be unstoppable. That shot is wet and defensively he's already there
Jabari smith and jalen green going be crazy 🚀

Either holmgren or banchero
@@BenjaminButton6573 Wrong
@Don Firas yeah lol was very surprised to see magic pass on him. Who would you prefer banchero or jabari smith?
@@BenjaminButton6573 jabari fits best and he brings defense
Yeap, he got what it takes to be a future start because of;
1. He can shoot off the dribble
2. He is athletic
3. The most important attribute is he plays off the ball. He knows where to go to be effective.
I have not given any player these marks since James. I will hold onto giving him 100% because he did not lead his team passed 2nd round against Miami. Off all those prospects, he got what it takes to be a cornerstone of a team.
He’s gonna be the best big man shooter ever. Rare to see this guy miss a three
Just imagine an Antetokounmpo with a good jump shot and with greater skill. That is what Jabari Smith Jr can become… It will be interesting to watch a Greek Freak x Smith Jr battle.
Big statement. Durant will be hard to improve upon
Nahh kat got that spot
@@rodneygreen1985 That’s a stretch. I get it he won the 3 pt shootout but best big man shooter ever? Is Kat a better shooter than KD? Cause they’re both forwards. Then you got Dirk, Rasheed Wallace was a good deep shooter, Glen Robinson, Markkanen, Kevin Love, Sam Perkins…. There’s a lot better than Kat.
@@GunninRebel55 KD isn't a big man, there's a difference between forward and a big, and KAT is definitely a better 3pt shooter than everyone you named, dirk is debatable.

Orlando Magics pick to play alongside with Franz-Markelle-Isaac-WCJ-Suggs-Chuma…that young squad will be real good in the next few seasons.
Nah yall can have Paulo. The Rockets want Jabari.
@@MMALifestyle1972 We’re see on draft order and draft night on who gets who, but Jabari’s shooting is exactly what the Magic need. Paulo might be a better fit for the Rockets since he can bring in Playmaking abilities that can enhance Greens abilities to new heights.
Nah I think Jabari would look better next to Dame Lillard, Anfernee Simons, Mathurin, and Nurkic. Hart & Nassir Little, & Koloko off the bench. 😂😂
We just now have to hope they pick him!
@@MMALifestyle1972 the rockets are getting Paolo
Best prospect in the draft. You don't see guys his size dribbling behind the back at halfcourt and finish it at the rim or come down and shoot the 3 off the dribble. Special.
Except that other guy in the draft that does everything you just listed
There is 3 in this draft.
Been a Jabari fan but watching this video makes me think there’s no way he isn’t number 1 and with small improvements and steadily adding to his game in off seasons he could be the best player in the league one day or at minimum lead the league in points and have a mvp season. Omg filthy. Reminds me of a mix between Tatum and Durant. Needs to get a better handle but spacing in the nba he will be just fine only had small issues when he slowed his dribble down locking his back trying to get low.
🤡🤡
Go back and watch Tracey McGrady, there’s you comparison. Not saying that because TMac was #1 for The Orlando Magic, but he has that sweet jumper, fade away, and jab step to rise and shoot over the defender. Tracey was an heck of a player. If JSmooth gets a dribbling combination/handles. He would be unstoppable
Welp as a rockets fan I'm thrilled he didn't go 1 even though he was the clear cut favorite the entire time until about 24 hours prior to the draft.
Me gusta mucho para Orlando
I hope he gets a good system to help him grow
Gotta a funny feeling Rockets gonna stunt his growth.

His move fade away jumpshot one on one play is like similar move to Michael Jordan's move😳😳😳😳😳😳
A lot of concerns about Jabari but idk why. Guy has everything he needs to be extremely good at the NBA level. You can't necessarily say the same thing about Chet and Paolo. One's frame is so questionable it's hard to see him bulking up without becoming injury prone, the other lacks arm length to make up for his slowness on defense.
Becoming a better playmaker is a lot easier for a player to do than it is to grow.
