My inherited 1983 is a 5-spd. It’s an adventure every time I drive it, and I get a lot of people giving me “Thumbs Up” when I drive. No, it’s not going to win any speed records, but it sure wins the Smile race.

I was just driving in mine today. An 83. And watching your video. It still looks fun. Do you know your brakes squeak a lot?

With a cold engine revving it up to 5000 rpm...? Not good.

These Engines are very solid, this is not a racecar engine. These engines where tested and driven like this for years, there is nothing to worry about. As an example, a friend of mine owns a golf from the same aera, it's a diesel with 550k miles on it (the engine was never opened) and after starting it he always puts the foot down and kisses the rpm up to the limiter, he is abusing the car since he bought it with 30k miles. Anyways, this was probably not the greatest example and i may have gone a bit off topic, but it still kinda proves my point, these cars are ment to last and be driven by everyone, so no immediate engine explosion when the motor is cold.

Hes revving it but under minimal load. But yes, I would usually let the car warm through before revving it over 3 grand.

@@aicauto I just got an '85 944 with the early dash. I also have a '77 924. I love the old dash style. What was once considered 'dated' is now retro cool.

It's not a fast car. If second gear went to 60 however it would be considerably quicker in 0-60 times as you need to shift at 55 and these older gearboxes can't speed shift.
It is a fantastic handling car however

Yes a 2000s car would be quicker than a 1985 car well done
