I was just there. It’s beautiful. My son lives there now.
Always liked srilankan girls. So you are❤️❤️❤️
I will be traveling to Sri Lanka next month and taking Sinhala classes here in USA online from someone in Sri Lanka. Stutiy
Very helpful phrases. Thank you. Please make more (but without the background music).
What about thank you? Surely the most important?
Thank you = IS-THU-THI. The "TH" is pronounced like "THought". However, I find that most people there just say Thank You in english
Thanks, over there next week and like to make an effort rather than be one of those YEAH GREAT DO YOU SPEAK ENGALISHHHH?
It is nice and polite to make the effort, learn a bit of the native tongue. But many sri lankans speak singlish. It is their take on english. Quite useful.
We actually say thank you in english lol
You might find Ayubowan formal because you live elsewhere, but in Sri Lanka, native Sinhalese do use it. In the present times, people are more inclined to say good morning or hello, but a quicker version, if I may use it to describe it, pronounced ‘aybown’ is still used to greet. Btw, Ayubowan is not a simple form of greeting but means ‘May you have longevity’ accompanied by clasping the hands, palms against each other, denoting the wish.
I actually lived there until I was 7 and have visited a lot too. It was very rare to hear someone say it unless in formal situations like at a wedding or new years. Maybe it’s different in different areas though.
@@MihiriW Maybe. I, however, live here and interact with people on a daily basis and this is what I have come across. On the whole however, people use good morning and hello or hi more, especially the younger generation.
Amazing knowledge u put. As u were born in Sri Lanka and know Sinahelese too tell us as we always get to hear it's Sri Lanka not Shree Lanka when u pronounce but u pronounced Shree Lanka throughout is it the right 1 does also Srilankans there also pronounce like It?
Sinhala is one of next language to learn, love it
Ayubowan !!! Kohomada oyage sepa sanipa,hodin innawa neda?(ආයුබෝවන් !!! කොහොමද ඔයාගෙ සැප සනීප , හොඳින් ඉන්නවා නේද ?) Singlish and sinhalese... from sri lanka 🇱🇰 🇱🇰 🇱🇰 . Your sinhala pronunciation is excellent, (ඔබේ සිංහල උච්චාරණය විශිෂ්ටයි) fabulous vedio ,, love you lady...😍

I am from Goa, It is related to my Native Tongue, Konkani..
Okay, I gave up on learning the language except "hondai." Any way, I'm still too excited to go there in two weeks 😊
Don't miss the Buddhism. It is so beautiful. Such a deep kindness as part of their national identity. And the food is pretty awesome. They might tell you not to drink the tap water. I found it was fine. But don't create plastic waste by buying bottled water. Just have 6 coconuts a day. It is better than water. Minerals. And the king coconuts are great, but so are the unripe ones. Your body will love you for it. The coconut selllers will fill your bottle, so you can buy a day's worth. Abd the temples, and the sun, and the smiles. Have fun. You lucky human.
@@howardstrauss5166 Thank you for the useful reminder of taking care of our planet but I'm not really into looking for religions I'm more into food, nature and cultures. Regarding the coconuts juice, I'm afraid I will stick to drinking plain water as I have some health issues so I must restrict my intake of a lot of certain minerals and sugar.
I like srilanka. Love from INDIA
Very useful! I travel to Sri Lanka next month!
Thank you for the phrases! Very useful ❤
I m gonna surprise my friend by using these words 😍 he will be so shocked 😂😂
I'm also a Sinhalese. But, I still confuse between the words 'Sinhala' and 'Sinhalese'. 00:48 Can you tell me the difference between them?

Hi everyone! Thank you to everyone who has watched and commented on this video. I’m really excited to announce a project I’ve been working on called “A is for Amma” which is a book aimed to teach kids Sinhalese and their ABCs. It might also be a good resource to those who are trying to learn Sinhalese!

Sinhalese is difficult than I thought.. I thought it’d have some similarities with South Indian languages😂
@Max Rider but it has many loan words.
I think the sinhalese people came from north india, about 2,500 years ago.
@Maz Maz No Maldivian similar and born from Sinhalese
@@howardstrauss5166 No forever....it is more local
Some words of sinhala are very close to tamil and some are exactly same
Hi mihiri thank you I'm trying to surprise my friends by learning they are from Sri Lanka and sometimes they switch and I don't understand

Thanks for the video, very helpful. Part 2???
'Mihiri" is actually sinhala name ?

Sri Lanka is very unique and different compared to other countries in Asia. Their language Sinhala is not spoken anywhere outside of Sri Lanka and the country is the only non East-Asian Buddhist majority country remaining today ❤ love you Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
There’s actually many languages spoken in Srilanka and many religions observed.
@@MihiriW that’s right! I met Tamil and Sinhala friends also my Chemistry professor is a Sri Lankan catholic.

How to say I love you in Sri lanka?
The language is called Sinhalese, it’s one of the languages of the country. If you’re asking about how to say I Love You in Sinhalese, it’s “mama oyata ada-ray”
I am also a Sri lankan I am Sinhala
Can you do some more of this topic☺️I love srilanka
Please can u tag me🥰🥰
like what are you driving? Honda. or a Huyndai 😂😁
lol exactly!
tamil is also the language of srilanka not only sinhalese......so if u say srilankan language mention whether it is tamil or sinhalese
Mother language of sri Lanka is sinhala. Not sub languages.
gud joke.......tamils were there in eelam long before the criminal outlaw prince vijaya and his followers set foot on eelam from bengal😂...sinhala is not as old as tamil which is a classical dravidian language family which is native to southeast asia since 3000 bce whereas sinhala is a relatively modern indoeuropean language a language family not native to south east asia......sinhala only act caused the spark leading to genocide, black july massacre, burning of jaffna library in the name of sinhala buddhist nationalism many tamil children and women were raped and murdered in 26 year of civil war......hope history dosent repeat again bcz of some fascist nazi fanatics claiming relegious and linguistic superiority
@@thakshilasandamali2269 srilanka is a secular country.....if a sinhala Buddhist wants to convert to hinduism or islam or christianity or learn tamil or english or any language instead of sinhala it is his right as a citizen and it dosent make him less of a citizen....the same applies for tamils and moors.....no one should be forced to follow buddhism or learn sinhala if it is against their wish
@@vickylightspeed2750 go and search of the sri lankan history and come to argue with me man. Go and search how tamil people and others came to sri lanka. Lol😂
@@vickylightspeed2750 and i don't know where are you from? But you must learn about the sri lankan history before going to make foolish arguements and if you are going to live in sri lanka. Go and search. Bye bye.
tamil is also the language of sri lanka, kindly mention that fact if you dont share those words too
Thanks for your comment! And yes you are absolutely correct!
@@MihiriW pls dont take personal. i just commented in humor. YOU reacted wisely. so you have won my apology and i edited my comment to be respectful.
@@jayb871 Yeah. Tamil also a official language in Sri Lanka. But Sinhala is the main language in Sri Lanka. 75% of Sri Lankans speak Sinhala as their mother tongue and 85% of Sri Lankans can speak Sinhala

NaadaYa Wrong dude it’s only Chinese 🇨🇳🤣

Dinelka Dissanayake .... seems like you can’t digest that Tamil also a official language in Sri Lanka..... I feel sorry for people like you... please go check this link thanks.www.parliament.lk/files/pdf/constitution.pdf
Yes yes. Sinhalese people have accepted that south indian language, Tamil also as an official language because of tamil minority's spiny demands. But actually Sinhalese language is the only native language in Sri Lanka because Sinhalese is the language, culture and nation which was emerged through the civilization of this island for thousands of years.
SriLanka -> Ceylan -> Ceylon -> Sinhalese
Yes! There are many other languages spoken is Sri Lanka and Sinhalese is not the official language. I sadly only speak Sinhalese but would love to learn Tamil!
UR very beautiful. ..
I love you in srilanka language 😅😅😅
