The film blew me away. Absolutely one of the best films I’ve ever seen. It’s one of those rare times when the credits rolled it was whisper quiet in the theater and I just kept hearing people say “wow”. It’s a stunning achievement
@@TheGhostOfJohnWicksBeagleagreed, Villeneuve has absolutely already “made it” from a studio perspective. That happened a long time ago with Prisoners, and his track record since then is absolutely insane. From a perception perspective, I will agree with the sentiment that he deserves to be every bit as much a household name as Christopher Nolan is. He certainly is in my household, but to general audiences….if any of his works is going to change that, I believe it’s this one.
Messiah was meant as a correction to readers having the unintended response to Dune. Herbert planned the story, but altered it to drive home his intentions with the first
It does suffer from pacing issues, some slow beats the first half and fast beats in the end. It's a great cinema experience in the high 8 territory for sure, but not 9.
It does suffer from pacing issues, some slow beats the first half and fast beats in the end. It's a great cinema experience in the high 8 territory for sure, but not 9.
Dune part 2 reminds me of the many franchises it have inspired, but weirdly enough, it's Attack on Titan that came closest to it in terms of theme and arc.
first shot in prisoners when he zooms in on the tree is so fekin eerie; I thought I was watching a real crime drama unfold. Denis loves that immersive documentary feeling
It was always Denis Villeneuve's intention to go on until Dune: Messiah and make a trilogy, but he had to conquer the studio's good will, and hopefully this one will on box office. He doesn't intend to go beyond Messiah, but I can see a scenario where he might wish to come back in, say, ten years, and try to film books 3 (Children of Dune) and 4 (God-Emperor of Dune), which are a natural sequel, like Dune and Dune: Messiah. Like The Lord of the Rings, I don't know if anyone will be able to put their hands on for sequels but the original director, but differently from Peter Jackson, I believe Villeneuve won't mess up with future installments.
I won’t watch this until I can watch at the theater near me just commenting so my favorite pod gets some algorithm juice, maybe I’ll play on silent while I destroy mfs in Sifu
I really enjoyed it l. And visually and sound wise it’s a must see. I rewatched the first one before I saw the second one. Going back Thursday to see it again
No, chani in the books understood the role, she would never walk away from Paul, assuming the books did not exist it was great better than most things in theaters. Also thinking you can fit 2 books in 5.5hrs is also asking a lot I know, this story really should be like 8 3hr movies to get everything. Overall I enjoyed it. Can't wait for part 3.
I love that analogy of landing vs taking off. I fly a lot for work and landing at my destination vs flying out is a completely different mood. Flying is frustrating but getting to your hotel is so damn good lol. I can't wait to see this movie though. I've been a Dune fan since around 2000 when I was 13. I still really want to see a Dune Messiah movie. It's actually my favorite book due to the political intrigue and plotting
I’m so sad that I’m hearing people say Denis Villneuves “might be the best sci-fi director ever” when he is the best director working right now. Period. No genre. People are forgetting Sicario, Enemy, Prisoner and Incendies. He hasn’t missed once.
Denis is the best director right now and will go down as one of the greats. Unbelievable mastery of symbolic shots, tension building scenes, everything
Dune part 1 is like the book in that it is all about introducing us to the Dune universe the politics and the characters that inhabit it for the first third of the book, that's why many people struggle with it in the beginning. Part 2 was always going to be better because everything happens in the remaining two thirds of the book. I am looking forward to seeing part 2 and part 3 which must be done as well.
I read Dune Messiah recently…and it’s kind of crazy how little I remember of that book and story. It feels like most of the book is just what’s going on in Paul’s head. Not sure how well it would do as a movie adaptation.
Children of Dune is the conclusion to everything introduced in dune. Messiah is not an ending its transition to children of dune. That story concludes all the major characters n its not as weird as book 4 n onwards. He should end with children of dune.
Zendaya is amazing in euphoria. Season 1 is worth watching. She continues to be great in season 2 but the writing takes a nose dive. I would say that's still her best role but she really brought it for dune part 2.
Been waiting for this. Was hoping it wasn't spoiler free so we can discuss that, but oh well 😅 The first one is great, full of rich lore and the like, but admittedly it can be pretty slow. This is on the other hand.. the 3 hours go by fast. I was focused on the movie 100% of the time. Super enjoyable. The action was great, awesomely choreographed. Great visuals. I didn't know what to expect between Paul and Channy, but I was pleasantly surprised by their relationship. I hope we don't have to wait too many years before the third movie 😂
I mean I know the later ones get weird (9 year old superhumans, god worms, etc) but Dune: Messiah firmly establishes the weird. It is the weirdness progenitor. Can't wait.
The story up to Children of Dune was originally suppose to be one book. Some of the chapter in the 3rd book were written from the beginning. It just got too big and turned into three books. As a grandmaster world builder does
Watched the Dune 1984 Alternative Edition Redux again yesterday and YES it is technically not as perfect as the new Dune movie but has better music and better actors and much more magic and mysticism than the new sterile movie. Despite all the bombastic efforts, the new movie doesn't grab me! It's just pure Hollywood digital cinema that lacks the essential flair. I absolutely cannot understand why this remake has produced so many enthusiasts. Everything left me quite cold and many actors are absolutely disappointing for me. All the mental explanations won't change the fact that this remake simply lacks that certain extra something and spice❗
While I like it more than it seems you did, I do think that you make good points. I think villneuves dunes are great scifi movies and visual spectacles, but the best parts of them aren’t what I want from dune in visual media. Villenueve captured the natural beauty Herbert created and depicted his world in a cool way, but the metaphysical, spiritual, (I guess the truly unfilmable) aspects of the books feel to me like they’re missing. While both some of the most visually stunning films I’ve seen they just don’t make me feel like I did with the books. (Although I have to give them credit for the amount they fit in roughly 5 hours with these new films)
@@paulm394Thank you for your comment, I am glad that you don't simply belittle my views as is often the case on social media. It would go too far to explain all the details, but the essence for me is simply that this realization doesn't grab me or excite me. The 3h fan version in HD from 1984 is simply miles better as far as the actors are concerned and connects me much more energetically with the actual story. And both versions have taken some liberties in their interpretation. So strictly speaking, both versions are not identical to the book. For example, I thought the sound modules were a good addition, but that's a matter of taste. I liked the dragonfly helicopters in the new Dune. Now that it's out we're gonna see a bunch of haters and contrarians but like it or not I don't think any other director living or dead could've done any better. Like this was the best movie it could possibly be right now. Maybe in the year 3000 there'll be a new movie director prodigy that could study this and 1-up it but for now it's the best version of that story were going to have on film for a long time.
7 out of 10 not one of the best sequels ever imo but better then the first. The Villain in my opinion is written very poorly. Also when Paul goes bad you really don’t feel the turn like you should it should of felt like Dark Vader heel turn
Dune is ok. The biggest challenge for me is the lack of charisma/screen presence of Timothee Chalamet. He's not a bad actor, just not one to carry this type of movie.
