Love this video. A clear demonstration that is beautiful in its simplicity. You’ve made me really miss the water! Subscribed! Also... definitely a good idea to keep using ethanol free gas, I use it in my cars too! Makes a huge difference
Great video. Very informative. I had been wondering about gas mileage. I have a Tohatsu 6HP so, results should be pretty similar. With full 3.5 external and a full internal, at moderate speeds... should get over 100 miles! Amazing. Really appreciate your effort in doing the video.
@@StixHD ya, you need a tiller extension for sure. We made one in the shop out of pvc for a small jon boat. I like just cruising, but I guess it's different in the skiff
Appreciate it! Here's a rough estimate of how much I've spent on it: Skiff: $2000 6HP Suzuki: $1500 Tags and Title: $200 Accessories: $300 Total: $4000 A lot of the accessories I already had since I owned a kayak previously (paddle, push pole, rod holders). All I had to buy were the H-rail and H-rail accessories, track mounts for the rod holders, and a stake out stick. It's great value for the price. I had always wanted a peddle drive kayak but they are so expensive nowadays. I figured if I spent an extra grand I could get the skiff and open up way more water but still go in skinny water. It drafts in about 3"-4"
@@StixHD Total = same money for just a Bote Rover (no motor). I am really leaning towards getting one of these because my Bote Rover has turned brown and the fake wood decals are delaminating from leaving it under one of those carports. I paid $3500 for that thing and used it twice, I am very disappointed. I checked one of these out and they seem much more durable.
@@rmpbrown01 yeah Rover is way more expensive. Also solo skiff switched manufacturing companies and they were hit with a price increase. I believe they are around $2,500 now for the skiff only.
I just bought my yesterday, so you mean with 3 gallon of gas I can go up to 70 miles...????... wow.. and it full throttle on and off..!!! I'm so exited ...
There's a guy in Houston who makes custom carbon tiller extensions. He built mine and is pretty reasonable on price. Shoot me a message if you want his info, the extension on my skiff was a game changer for weight distribution and ease of driving.
@@StixHD sorry, forgot to check if you replied. I really like the tiller extension, it makes standing and steering much easier. I also have the tilt tied into a switch on the end of the extension so I can adjust that on the fly.
The brand is Speckled Truth and you can google their name and the shop should come up. They have a facebook and instagram page also and you can find it there. They just got some of these hats in and they sell out pretty quick.
Hey bro awsome vid."Question" Was that a freshwater lake? Or were you in a big bay. I just set up my jonny bass boat, with a 2.6 Suzuki outboard. My boat is faster on fresh water, slower on saltwater. I only weigh 140 lbs. I usually take about 3 gallons of fuel with me. Just wondering if 2 different types of water makes a speed difference..🙏 God bless be safe bro..
I'm not sure honestly I don't think it would make a difference. Maybe if you are going against the tide it would be slower. I was in a saltwater river... kinda confusing I know. lol The river normally doesn't have any flow and is affected very minimal by the tides. 3 gallons is a lot of fuel. The smaller outboards are pretty efficient on gas. Not sure how far you plan on going but I'm sure 1 gallon can last you most of the day.
@@StixHD well I bring one container. Some days I just like to cruise around. Check out some camp sites, or explore more of the lake. It's 780 acres of water. And this is my 1st boat and the 2.6 is awsome. Love the jonny bass boat. Be safe bro thanks..
Also, I forgot to mention that I am using Ethanol free gas!

6:10 for the answer
you deserve way more recognition
Thanks so much for the info - very useful info for first time Skiff owners!
Thanks for this video. My solo will be here in a few days.

man i love your channel...
Good info. Well done.
What type of push pole/rod holder mounts do you have?
That looks like a really fun trip!
Actually it kinda sucked... haha 2 hrs straight of just reaching back holding the motor. The sunset was nice tho.

@@billpattillo9597 Yeah if I would have had the tiller extension it would have been WAY better lol
Say bro, that was a super informative video. Asnwered a lot of questions from Skiff owners in the FB group 👍🏽👍🏽💯
Glad it was helpful!
Which fb group? My solo will be in this week I’d like to join.
Love the set up. How much for everything. I need this in my life

Yeah should be able to! I've never gone more than 15 miles in one trip.

I need to look into that. How do you like yours?

Thanks for the video, what kind of app are you using on the phone for the gps?
It’s an app called fishing points.
what is that lid on the gas tank?
You’re in corpus?
Is that an efi motor or carburetor? Planning a 300 mile trip down chattahoochee river to the gulf amd this helps. Thanks
You’re gonna have to fuel up a few times bro
You answered my question for my skiff
You're welcome lol
Where did you get your cap?

@@anthonyvespia6662 nice that’s a big lake! Appreciate it man. Stay safe as well!
Saltwater is denser than freshwater, therefore increases drag on the vessel.
I get 6mi on internal tank running 10mph
I’m guessing this is wide open throttle? I would figure but I don’t think he said
ye he did say
How old is the motor?
5 months. probably around 25 hrs on it.

Gary Barrere on the next video! I wanted to but this was more of an experiment lol
6 HP on Square Stern Canoe...Perhaps better.
Same fuel, less initial cost, more room.
Just my opinion as a Motorized Canoe guy.
Only thing kills a canoe for me, is the self bailing feature of the solo
