      Pete Rose bet on his own team to lose. He has no right to be in the hall of fame. What he did was even worse than what guys like A-Rod and Bonds did. At least they were trying to WIN! There were some games where Rose was trying to lose.

    • @petezereeah517
      @petezereeah517 8 лет назад +10

      CanadaMMA No way man. It's absolutely verified. He always bet on the Reds to win. Michael Jordan got caught by the NBA for betting on the Bulls. He was told to leave the game for a period of time, or the scandal would break to the media. That's why he went off to play baseball for a few years. Pete Rose should get the same courtesy.

      CanadaMMA you are a moron. Whst he did didnt alter stats, and he was retired as a player and was managing. His stats and he earned along with the hall of fame shouldn't be with held from him. Pete the Legend!

    Times have changed and Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame! Legalized sports betting is apparently no big deal in today's society. Toronto, Canada is home to the Toronto Blue Jays and any adult can go into any convenience store, gas station, shopping mall or grocery store here in Toronto (or anywhere else in the Province of Ontario, for that matter) and bet on Major League Baseball games. Our government even encourages it! Reinstate Rose and get him inducted into the Hall of Fame!

    The rules also say that pitchers cannot doctor baseballs yet Whitey Ford, who is in the Hall of Fame, has admitted to scratching baseballs with his wedding ring and muddying baseballs to get an edge over the hitter. In my opinion this form of cheating is by far worse than what Pete Rose has ever done. He's one of the greatest of all time, he needs to be recognized for it.

    @masanf. Pete rose bet on his team to win. WIN not to lose but to win. If anything that would give him and his team that much more of a desire to win. Regardless what he did as a player deserves to be in the hall of fame period. He didn't cheat as a player he earned every hit he got. If you love baseball then you agree that Pete should be in the hall of fame.

    I've been arguing for a couple of decades of my feeling about Charly Hustle. I liked that knickname they game him because no one, and I mean NO ONE ever hustled any harder than Peter Edward Rose aka Pete Rose. Ironically, his birthday in on 4/14 and he'll turn 73 yrs old. I don't care who the hell didn't like him. He is a Rock. A part of American History that you cherrish for the ages. If he had to take heat for betting, so be it. He did his "time" as they would say. Now it's long over due for this man to get his just do. He made the game better for America. Oh yeah, for those who believed in The Big Red Machine. They never won a title as that unit after Rose departed Cincy. What did Rose do? He went to Philly and helped them to their first title in 30 years. Again, let #14 into the Hall where he belongs. Baseball would be better off doing this while Pete is still here.

    Say what you want about Pete Rose, but this record will NEVER be broken. It requires too many prerequisites which are pretty much unattainable in today's MLB. You need a minimum of a 20 year career with minimal injuries. Can't happen today.

    I see at Wikipedia that some believe Pete Rose actually broke Ty Cobb's all-time hits record three days earlier on Sep. 8, 1985 with his 4,191st, connecting off Chicago Cubs' Reggie Allen Patterson with a single in the first inning of a Reds' 5-5 called game. Reggie Patterson shouldn't be confused with outfielder Corey Patterson, who broke into MLB with the Cubs in 2000. However, online sources say Reggie Patterson's last MLB appearance came on Corey Patterson's 2nd birthday: AUGUST 13, 1981

If he had bet for them to loose than I'd understand but he was betting for his team to win. How in the hell is this even close to a crime? You would think that if he was betting on the W than he would push his players to be better and to win more. Smh HoF is incomplete without this legend.

      It's because, as a manager, you don't necessarily try to win every game. Sometimes it's better to lose than to blow out your bullpen, or expose a pinch hitter, etc. You might win *two* games later on, if you do that. Unless, of course, you have your own personal money on that one game. Then yeah, it might be better to give up the team's overall best interest - and the season - just to win that one game.

    As a long time Reds fan, I want to try and put it into a perspective. In any minor league camp there's a sign in the dug out that reads, "If you bet on the game of baseball, you will be expelled from the game of baseball." That sign has always been there-not just since Rose. Since the Blacksox scandal of 1919 there has been a no tolerance policy for gambling in baseball. Pete knew that, and he did it anyway. This isn't boxing! I believe his punishment should be getting into the hall posthumously

    And of course - like the Cincinnati home runs at the old Riverfront Stadium - the 4,192nd hit of Pete Rose - though not a home run, caused the stadium pyrotechnician to fire off bursts into the air.
    And it is not just bursts into the air. It is something like a fireworks finale of sorts - 400 to about 500 or so shots. It is like a finale cake firework shooters often used on the 4th of July!
    All these explosions for the great Pete Rose - before he was banned from baseball for gambling later on.

    Rose gets more attention by NOT being in the Hall of Fame than if he had been put in years ago..303 lifetime hitter(Cobb`s was .367),160 homers,.409 lifetime slugging average(Ruth`s was .690)!Trust me, if Rose had been elected to the Hall of Fame 15 years or so ago,we wouldn`t even be talking about him.He should be happy!
