Iroh looked at Toph the way he did at the standoff because he was surprised to see she was part of Aang's group. Azula saw he was off guard for a moment and took advantage of it.
Uranus, why? Lol you guys need to chill with feeding them every little bit of information. That little thing they missed was literally the smallest shit ever and they don't NEED to know it
My favorite part was when Zuko said "LEAVE!" in anguish. I felt he was angry at himself for how he treated his uncle and sad that Azula did that the Iroh, probably the one person who genuinely cared for him.
Pretty much. He's the only person who truly cares for him, and seeing Azula use that against him was what caused him to scream in anguish. He's upset at himself, because he could have done so many things differently such as fighting Azula previously instead of trying to capture Aang and he knew that Azula was cunning but still fell for a trap.
I also like that despite his rage he didn't really hurt them. They weren't with their guard up and they were really close, he could have fucked them up all at once if he wanted to.
Nao Sou I think that was due to weakness. Not saying Zuko is weak, but realize in that moment all the life and energy was sucked out of him after seeing Iroh in that state. Not that I think he could kill or hurt Aang's group, but in that moment every bit of strength he had was sapped out from his sorrow.
tyrone yeah but I'm sure him and the rest of the crew minus Calvin watch the episode again after their reaction in order to fully understand what happened each episode.
Iron is one of the best characters in any media outlet period. Fictional or not. Aw, too bad we didn't get to see Azula's Zuko impression moment. I feel like that's the first time we really get to see the more human side of her, or at least a side that isn't completely cold and calculating and evil. I mean it's a shitty human side, but it's a human side lol. "You can laugh... It's funny."
StygianTraveler141 I remember for a moment, the tension died down a bit when Aang snickered ...then it was back as soon as Zuko yelled at Azula to back off
I never noticed sokka threw his boomerang at her as well. With the suspense of Iroh going down, and the sight of all all 4 elements being shot at Azula, it was easy for me to miss. I've seen this show about 10 times and can't believe I just caught that lol.
I like how the show is playing out Zuko's struggle between being an outcast yet still wanting to be prince of the Fire Nation. I think the 3-way battle in this episode could be seen as a metaphor for where Zuko is currently at - Is he still fighting the Avatar? Or is he fighting the Fire Nation? With this battle it was both, and had it ended differently he would have had to choose which one he's really going for. Then on top of that, it's great to see how much he cares when Iroh is struck down - the grief and anger at the possibility of losing Iroh seems to overwhelm anything else Zuko was doing with the Avatar or Azula.
i think youre reading too much into it. its not him against the fire nation but him trying to capture the avatar and making sure his sister doesnt take that away from him as well. the avatar is his last salvation and his chance at the throne, he wont give that up for anything.
Here he's simply teaming against his sister for the sake of survival. Zuko has been capable of taking on the Avatar pretty well in the past. He's never been able to take on Azula. Its simply a case of Azula being the greater threat.
I loved the scene with Toph meeting Iroh. When I saw Game of Thrones (spoilers) I immediately linked it to the scene with Arya meeting Tywin. They're on "opposite" sides yet individually they get along fine.
But she can feel vibrations coming from all of their bodies. Granted, Zuko doesn't have a ponytail anymore so I have no idea how she would be able to physically identify him.
@@jacobmonks3722 She can feel vibrations but she's not going to get it down to every detail. Things like facial features and ponytails aren't going to be things she will pick up easily. It also seems like a pony tail is a very common haircut. It's clear in future episodes that she recognises people by the vibrations of their footsteps and the sounds they make.
"Both?! I'M COMPLETELY CALM!!" Oh Katara ...you poor sleep-deprived child xD I know it's sort of a minor-ish scene in comparison to everything else that's happening, but I just loved how Aang yelled at Toph after she blamed Appa. I mean, it was bad that he was yelling at her like that but him coming to the defense of Appa like that just warms my heart :) The Toph/Iroh scene still warms my heart
They're showing the love he has for Appa. Not to mention its the only being that is still alive from his past. *Spoilers* Which makes what is coming even more heart wrenching.
I always like that Tophs flaw here isnt necessarily selfishness or not caring. Its almost the reverse. Shes focused on "carrying her own weight," and making sure people arent doing things for her. And it seems to be a twofold thing. On one hand, she really does seem like she cares enough about the Gaang to not want to impose her burdens on them, because she doesnt fully understand (from lack of experience) that thats the entire point of friends, sharing burdens. But also because her hypersheltered upbringing has made it hard for her to understand, as Iroh enlightens her, that people can choose to help out of more than just pity or assumption of weakness. Its a very nuanced and realistic flaw, that doesnt just boil down to "dont know how teamwork." And i love it.
And don't you just love how they make predictions because they haven't watched it all before, but we know what's going to happen because we've watched Avatar so many times over? It's great lol
I really love Azula, Iroh, Toph, Zuko, and Aang. All for different reasons (though Katara and Sokka are amazing too.) But really, the main thing that sells me for the story are it's characters. They all hit me in different ways concerning my emotions and their fighting styles are pretty amazing too. I just love this show so much and I love seeing you react to it.
I love the final fight, it really demonstrates the strengths of TLAB s choreography, every character combination has its own rhythmn and no way what an overwhelming advantage one side has, one moment of carelessnes can ruin everything, yet you still get a clear idea of how powerful each fighter is, despite the fights being very circumstantial and reliant on the battlefield, like Calvin said, every fight is a demonstration of the personalities of the participants.
12:25 - Also, Iroh could not have known that Toph was a new member of the "GAang" (or Team Avatar) before this, and that was him putting the peces together; unfortunately, in doing so he let his guard down, and Azula capitalised on the opening he inadvertently left her to strike, the shock of doing so giving her time to not only flee unharmed but also get a nasty potshot in while doing so...
"the look" was Iroh putting 2 and 2 together... When they met (toff and iroh) they didn't know who was travelling with whom. It was Iroh who recognised Toff and that was time when he realised that Toff was travelling with team Avatar and when Iroh gasped after he got hit by lightning, it was then when Toff recognised his voice (i guess or maybe it was before that) and realised that he was with Zuko. A hint...this "look" will lead to something.

There are quotes, things he says, that actually help you in real life as well when things seem most dark. I love Iroh! Loved the episode very much, some awesome character moments and the fighting scenes are wonderfull to watch in this show.
samanthachristine89 I think that's the amazing part of avatar. Everyone has a favorite episode because it is either good or somehow it relates to someone

Every time after the reactions I look at the episode list to see what's next, and honestly there is not a single "bad" or even "average" episode till the end now imo. I'm looking forward to all these episodes!
Iroh just saw Toph and realized that she was with Aang. At that moment he probably knew that she was Aang's earthbending teacher. He was just surprised how she was in their group, not other reason. Him letting guard down was why he got hit. Iroh is ultimately too kind of a man be cunning. Granted he's very powerful, more so than Azula.
Shiku Bah Can't be sure. Iroh didn't know if he could beat Ozai, that's a fight we never got to see. Honestly Iroh is one of my favs, but I think Ozai takes that fight. Ozai had the killing mentality, Iroh was a bit too soft.
Gabriel Carrasco Actually he admitted he could but it wouldn't right to fight him. He wanted the Aang to bring balance to the world. If he fought Ozai and won it would been seen as one brother overthrowing the other and not justice.
Chili Sauce Incorrect he stated he could but it wouldn't be right. Even so nowhere in the show does it state he could lose against him. Plus he was trained by the last dragons how to properly use his fire bending. He also learned how to redirect lightening something no other fire bender until Zuko could do. He was also knowledgeable of the spirit world and was in tuned with it. Iroh would have won the battle easily. We only see Ozai really fight against Aang at the end. Zuko even redirected his lightening when he faced him with ease.

Avatar is one of my fave shows of all time (which is saying a lot). So glad you guys are doing 2 episodes a week now. Hahah! I can see Eric and Aaron getting the ALTA bug. The show only gets better from here. There's something to like about every character....even Azula.
12:19 I think the reason Iroh looked at Toph like that was him realizing that she was with Avatar, because he didn't know it before. It could also be that he's realizing that he's gonna have to fight her since she's with the Avatar (because they're hunting him down)
I think Iroh looked at Toph and the group because he was piecing together that Aang was learning earthbending. He sees that the Avatar is actively trying to fight his nation and his brother
A testament to Azulas ingenuity and tactical abilities to take advantage of something so small. She knew she couldn't win the fight and so cheapshotted the person who was distracted and ran.
I never realized that Appa hitting the tree was what azula caught on to not be fooled by aang's plan to divert them away XD I always thought that she was just guessing
You know, I'm really glad the writers pointed out how insensitive Aang & Katara were to Toph. Sure, she might've been unhelpful, but Katara's insult about how Toph not being able to see the stars due to her blindness(or being under her rock rent since that wouldn't be as hurtful) was uncalled for.
sacredbeastzenon Except Toph wasn't "screwing around." She was fully prepared for whoever was chasing them, and was clearly joking for comedy's sake when she said Sokka couldn't bend. Katara, on the other hand, actually meant what she said because she was insulting Toph.
Joking when your about to be in a fight is screwing around. Toph was being stubborn. She thinks that because she's blind everyone wants to take care of her. Katara didn't look at Toph as useless but a capable member of the group. She was outright asking for her help. The fact is everyone was testy because lack of sleep. Everyone said uncalled things in this episode. It honestly comes off as Toph tries to piss people off for her own amusement or hurt feelings.
Talisguy You have a valid point. I was just saying how glad I was that Toph wasn't made out to be the "bratty, mean girl" because of her conflict with her friends.
I wish they included the part when Toph just casually moves Sokka out of her way using the earth under him when he tries to stop her from leaving the group. love that moment) also when Azula does her Zuko impression.
Great reaction, guys! I really love this episode too. I think it's around episode 6 on that I think Season 2 starts getting really _really_ great. I bet you'll all enjoy the episodes to come!
Amazing how much power is released when all four elements come together and they all attack Azula at once (Aang - Air, Katara - Water, Toph - Earth, Zuko - Fire): one big explosion.
I watched avatar so many times, that i have my favorite episodes wich i watch over and over. But these series of commenting i realise that even the ' lesser' episodes are importent too and that those really make avatar the way it is.
I laughed for five minutes after Zuko fell off that ledge. It was just sooo well done, Azula caught herself, Zuko just charged without thinking haha. I loved loved loved it!
The point of Iroh looking between Toph and Aang is because he's wise enough to know that Azula plays dirty, He expected a below the belt blow and was thinking who she'd strike. Azula saw that and took that moment while he was off-guard, he didn't expect to be the target.
Pretty sure he was shocked that the girl he met randomly in the middle of nowhere and had a heart-to-heart (and a cup of tea) with was the Avatar's friend.
I doubt it...he was just surprised to see the new girl with the Avatar. Besides the only person she would try to sneak attack is Iroh. He is the only one present who can take her and she knows it
Well you can see it in her eyes after he shifts his gaze between the kids, the idea of azula killing off the blind girl as a weakness or killing the avatar who she wants to kill anyway. And when she looks back to iroh all I can read from her smug face is, "I'm not going for them.. I'm going for you".
I imagine that for the bolt she fired in Omashu, Mai does have some sort of mechanism, similar in function to Black Widow's wrist-mounted widow stings, just for her legs. She does seem to throw her knives, though.
I don't get why they're so confused about hot she's able to shoot the arrows, in their reaction to 2x3 at 9:19 you clearly see a device around her wrist that allows her to fire projectiles
Iroh looked at them because he realized the girl he gave advice to is friends with the Avatar.
Yeah, that was my initial reaction. But I do like the idea that Iroh was thinking about joining them at the time too.
I think he also realized that the Avatar is learning earth-bending now and gaining more power.
@@eggsnspam except he isn't, not yet at least

Gabriel Carrasco Actually he admitted he could but it wouldn't right to fight him. He wanted the Aang to bring balance to the world. If he fought Ozai and won it would been seen as one brother overthrowing the other and not justice.
@Soisen, No. Iroh said he wasn't sure if he could defeat Ozai, but even if he could, it wouldn't be his place to do so.

It could also be that he's realizing that he's gonna have to fight her since she's with the Avatar (because they're hunting him down)
Calvin's face at 4:54 "Eric.. Toph is blind!" hahaha xD
That last "leave!!" from Zuko, man. Gotta love Dante Basco.
Love that quote! " Love isn't about pity, it is about friendship" thanks! I've problems accepting help as well so great quote!
Thank god for BlindWave!!
my favorite reaction channel on RUclips.
I never realized that Appa hitting the tree was what azula caught on to not be fooled by aang's plan to divert them away XD I always thought that she was just guessing
Fun fact: this is the only episode in which Sokka throws his boomerang at something and misses. He throws it at Mai and she dodges.
“What if she runs into Zuko, she knows what she looks like”
Bruh I died so hard
Love your reactions to the standoff!
Toph talked about how Sokka is pretty much worthless in a fight. She could've just focused on fighting rather than screwing around.
sacredbeastzenon Except Toph wasn't "screwing around." She was fully prepared for whoever was chasing them, and was clearly joking for comedy's sake when she said Sokka couldn't bend. Katara, on the other hand, actually meant what she said because she was insulting Toph.
Talisguy If you're referring to me, no.
I was so freaking tiered when this happened
Friday can't come quick enough.
We need a poll for a Atla daily reaction. That would be heaven.
I just...I love book 2. So fucking much! I love this show so much!
Calvin's beard is still magnificent and I am envious.
I always tear up when Iroh speaks his beautiful wisdom
Haha! Your guys' reaction when those eel-hounds skittered across the water was priceless! :D
I wish they included the part when Toph just casually moves Sokka out of her way using the earth under him when he tries to stop her from leaving the group. love that moment) also when Azula does her Zuko impression.
These episodes are one of the highlights of my week
10:51 " Plasma is the 4th state of matter" " The fuh u talkin about"
Great reaction, guys!
I love this episode! is like the perfect reunion of all the main characters so good
"3 on 3 plus Sokka" is one of my favorite jokes in the show
keep it up guys, I seriously LOVE your reactions to ATLAB like I straight love these seriously!!! I look forward to these all the time!!! 😊😊😊
"God damnit Calvin" hahahaha
i saw avatar so many times, but watching this reaction give me new life
"She knows what he looks like"
The point of Iroh looking between Toph and Aang is because he's wise enough to know that Azula plays dirty, He expected a below the belt blow and was thinking who she'd strike. Azula saw that and took that moment while he was off-guard, he didn't expect to be the target.
Pretty sure he was shocked that the girl he met randomly in the middle of nowhere and had a heart-to-heart (and a cup of tea) with was the Avatar's friend.
Lol? No idea where you got this idea ruki
I doubt it...he was just surprised to see the new girl with the Avatar. Besides the only person she would try to sneak attack is Iroh. He is the only one present who can take her and she knows it
Just my Perspective of the situation, It could be that also.
Anyone else smile whenever they suspect or guess something that actually will happen? In the episode or in future episodes
this is when the series gets AMAZING this is the turning point episode and it gets SO good after this. this one is my favorite episode.
you can see the launcher on her wrist on the episode from Mei if you watch it again.
Iron just realized that Toph is with the Gaang. Nothing more to it than that really.
5:55 omg that cracked me up so hard HAHAHA
Can't wait until they get to the final battle
book two is so wonderful, this episode they are all tired and useless and still make it and i love them
hi blind wave next episode is one of the bests.
The training one I think.
Isn't it the library episode?
No, The Library will be next Monday, Friday is Bitter Work, which kicks off Aang's training with Toph.
Oh yeah; you're right
Also next episode is
SPOILERS
SPOILERS
SPOILERS
Zuko learning Iroh's special lightning trick.
Guys, keep it up. Just love ur reactions 😃
I imagine that for the bolt she fired in Omashu, Mai does have some sort of mechanism, similar in function to Black Widow's wrist-mounted widow stings, just for her legs. She does seem to throw her knives, though.
It's been about a year or so since I watched the series, so I can't be expected to remember everything. If they do though, then there you go.
I don't get why they're so confused about hot she's able to shoot the arrows, in their reaction to 2x3 at 9:19 you clearly see a device around her wrist that allows her to fire projectiles
