You and plant one on me are my 2 favorite channels. I feel like you don't buy plants just to impress us. I can tell you really like them because nothing is being neglected. Some of the other Canadian RUclipsrs take everything for granted. You are the only one that doesn't annoy me on some level.
Just have to say I'm a new follower and didn't know you had longer hair - looks like not too long ago, (anyhow) your short hair is totally you!!!!! When I watch your videos I get this whole everybody's daughter vibes....you are so well rounded and sweet, I have adopted you into my heart as the daughter I never had! I am so proud to share you content.
Just a little trick I use in the summer. I have the wide Milsbo and I put a cute little fountain in there and it does an amazing job of keeping the humidity up.
Great update! Whenever I transition a plant out of a grow tent/Ikea cabinet I increase the humidity and keep the same lighting. Then I slowly decrease humidity. Depending on the financial or emotional investment is how much I "baby" the transition. 😁
I had a horrible 2 day FA trip due to mechanical ⚙️ ✈️ issues and weather, so spending today in bed watching your video and I was going to pick up a Nursing job, but heck NO!!! Spending it in bed. Wanted to share a plant 🪴 book that I bought and I am going to spend the day reading it in bed after I take a nap 😂. It’s just one of those in bed days. Stay well GF!!!! Your nails are gorgeous!
Pretty interesting video as I'm in the middle of building a Milsbo plant cabinet for my Phalaenopsis and Paphiopedilum orchids. I had an Ikea Socker mini greenhouse for 10 years and it was super rusty when I last moved house so I chucked it. For my Milsbo, I'm making sure the inside is well covered with rust protection.
Fern, you inspired me to start my RUclips channel last year and I just wanted to say thank you! I just got over 100+ hours of watch time and 2k total views and it feels so cool! Don’t stop doing what your doing and please update us on the thrips! Happy new Year! 🥳🎉
I’ve been researching setups like this and your videos are great! Super thorough and informative! I want to grow highland Nepenthes! Love that shelf! When I get my cabinet, I think I’ll spray on a couple layers of weather sealant for metal as well as the hole(s) at the bottom. Thank you for the rust observations!!!

That custom shelf is really nice. I finally purchased this from ikea since it was out of stock for such a long time and then when it was back in stock, I was broke lol. I am definitely considering getting that custom shelf for mine. Thanks for sharing!
I never write comments usually, but I wanted to say thank you. You are the best discovery in 2021 for me. I love your content, the style of your videos but I also love your sweet personality. Thank you for all these beautiful videos, wish you a great year 2022 to you. Love you 🤩🥰😄❤️
There are 2 problems with the holes you drilled: rust and the sharp edges can damage the cables which would create a dangerous situation. I recommend adding plastic grommets sealed with a silicone sealant. Rust can be prevented by treating the metal appropriately. eta: as far as the weatherstripping is concerned, i found that it sticks really well if you prep the surface to remove any possible grease first. Rubbing alcohol or a window cleaner work great. I use the silicone stripping only where the doors meet and foam stripping for the other edges.
I used foam weather stripping around the doors, and the flap stripping between the doors and on my tall it had worked wonderfully. My wide though, the foam doesn't seal near the center of the doors I guess because it is constructed a bit differently, but I don't mind because the wide holds humidity really well because I have my queen in there. Also a tip I learned from movers when moving a curio cabinet my grandpa made is to put masking tape in an X across the glass. I guess it helps with any impact? They also used to put tape on windows of shops during WWII to keep them from shattering so there must be something to it.
yayyyy, i'm gonna watch this while I propagate. I've been watching your videos for a whie but you've become a serious favorite. A joy to watch. I also had a question. do you have an etsy account and if so would you recommend it for someone that wanted to possibly start selling cuttings?
Hi I don't want to recommend my channel or anything but if you was looking for more plant videos I'm a newish plant youtuber and would appreciate the support 😊
Hey Fern!! If you scrap the rust off and put nail polish over the edge it will stop rusting. Super easy at home hack, electrical tape will stop the edge from cutting the fan cable
Try using pva glue to stick your plastic weather seal strip down. It's water based and dries clear, also comes off easy. Use a fine brush and wipe excess off with a cloth. Cheers, Jo from New 🇳🇿 Zealand.
re: transitioning plants out. I am always so nervous when I move mine out of the milsbo. I've moved syngoniums, pictum tricolor, and ferns out of the cabinet into new areas of the home...I make sure they are next to humidifiers so they're not seeing an extreme difference in humidity...they do see a difference in light and temp though....so far they have all transitioned well and I didn't have to move them back into the cabinet and back out like you did, Fern. I was inspired to move another plant out of my cabinet...I just took out my billietiae and set it down on a table temporarily and it fell and broke off the huge new leaf it just popped out - I want to cry now :( lol
Interesting! My succulents and cactus LOVE my cabinet, as well as string of dolphins. The plants that full on died was my goldfish plant and my Croton!!! Both died horrible deaths.
Your nails look awesome! 😍 I'd love to have that colour changing paint on my violin! Excellent video as always. Thanks for the joy that you bring to my life. You'll never know. Keep on rocking and believing in yourself Fern. Big love from Blighty! (England) 😁💜❤💚

I love your set up! I don't use a humidifier and I do have lots of plants in mos in the cabinet, so that keeps the humidity high. and it's so cool to see that you are still using the shelf 🥺
I used the vornado fan as well and out of 1/2 I have, it did mold around the fan area. I now run 3 fans but I wonder if its too much for my plants because they're drying out quickly. Love your setup!

Just wondering if you are planning on having very large specimen plants around the house once taken from the cabinet or are you going to chop them up and do swaps/trades with people for different types of plants? You’ve got such a wonderfully diverse collection you could easily find people willing to swap. Wish I lived in Canada! 💚
ok but you were totally right about putting the pillows inside the cabinet, if for no other reason that like, what if a loose screw fell out and was bouncing around in there! I’ve been annoyed with my weather stripping peelings as well. This kind is the only one I’ve found to hold in humidity well between the doors, but the kind that’s a hollow rubber tube is good for the other three sides of the door.
Woot! I’ve really been considering purchasing an IKEA cabinet but since I ended up with the grow tent I just don’t have the room in this space. Hopefully one day! It looks so nice

Hi! We just ordered this cabinet- I assumed they had at least one hole for cords at the bottom? Am I hearing there aren't and you had to drill it? Thanks!!
No there are no holes! Because it’s just meant to be a display cabinet. We used a hole saw drill attachment to drill them. I didn’t drill any in my other cabinet, I just have the wires going through the crack in the side of the door (where it hinges). It doesn’t look as clean but it works.
Hi I don't want to recommend my channel or anything but if you was looking for more plant videos I'm a newish plant youtuber and would appreciate the support 😊
I had a question, I'm going to build one of these. But I was just wondering whether you need to introduce fresh air into the cabinet? Or how often? I read about it once but that was because she had issues with the cabinet becoming too warm, so that was not really on the 'type of air' into the cabinet. Would love to get some thoughts on this.

@@wildfern yes, it’s stunning! Makes me want to try again with one. My first one I had wasn’t too happy, but that was before I made an IKEA greenhouse cabinet 😊
Great video :) Do you know of a good weather stripping alternative to the one you have ? Mine is not weather stripped so the humidity in my cabinet is not that high. It's usually around 40-50% max.
It mostly sits between 75-90% right now. It changes depending on how dry the plants are. It also changes with the seasons, humidity is higher in the summer.
this is my first video of yours and i'm a fan now. very thorough and lots of things i didn't even think of.

Where did you get that awesome shelf?? Wow could imagine something like that...
Hey! The shelf is from www.ietsmetplantjes.nl
Hi Fern,
What size pegboards are you using inside the cabinet? 🙂
This is so helpful! Can you show a picture or just comment the average humidity/temperature you get in the cabinet
I don’t think she said temp but she did say 85-90% humidity in the cabinet
yes humidity ranges but typically 80-90% and the temperature (right now) stays between 19-23 degrees celsius.
Hey Fern! Love your videos. Do you have a hygrometer that you recommend?
I like the Govee ones. You can find them on amazon - I think they're even linked on my amazon storefront.
My cabinet is gettin rust on the botton i think it was to mush moisture even with 2 fan that i have
Is your Alocasia a green dragon scale, or a silver/grey? It looks so silvery and gorgeous!
it's actually the green one! it's quite cool toned though isn't it
@@wildfern yes, it’s stunning!
Someone commented that they use "a D-shaped superthin silicon weatherstripping" so I might look into that. I have also seen a foam one used as well.
@@wildfern thanks a lot!
Grabe yourself some clear marine silicon from hardware store and use it for weatherstripping....it wont come off
My albos HATED my cabinet too!
amazing sharing
Hey Fern! 🪴
Hello!
How humid do you usually have it? 🌱✨
It mostly sits between 75-90% right now. It changes depending on how dry the plants are. It also changes with the seasons, humidity is higher in the summer.
you got a little clip on mic! the sound is great :)
Yes! I've had it for awhile but I don't use it unless I'm standing away from the camera. I should use it more 😃
Use your nail polish on places that are prone to rust! Greetings from Tasmania!
Thank you!! Will do ☺️
