    This is truly amazing! Thanks a lot! I never had so much fun with the TR-09 until I watched your video! Absolutely this is the best tutorial for this incredible machine. Most of the tutorials on RUclips are using the TR-09 pretty much as a sound module, not as it was used for making electronic music in the 80´s and 90´s, improvising, playing with every single knob and so on. After 3 years having this machine, today I can say how much fun is to play with it, and how many possibilities it has. Thanks again!

    It was hard to have fun with this machine until I followed along this video, endless hours of fun now, you make it easy to understand for us amateurs, most other tutorials are targeted to audio engineers, not for us dudes that impulse buy drum machines and synths. thank you, excellent video. will follow if you have more boutique videos

      In the beginning when I got mine It was intimidating how to program it, but once I watched the rand tutorials I figured it out quickly. It's not rocket science, you just need some patience and focus.

    I’ve had one of these for a while now. Get moments of inspiration, switch it on, realise that I don’t have a clue how it works (is it just me or does the workflow make no sense to modern man?), get demoralised, switch it off, repeat cycle some time later. Hopefully this vid will help as seems pretty comprehensive. Thanks.

    Great video!! for the issue of the Fx (10:00) I pan all except the kick to L and the Kick to R (or viceversa) and use a minijack- 2 RCAS or 2 Jack cable and 2 differente channels on the mixing console. I use mute and solo a lot, and to me is easier to turn right (or left) the tempo knob (same time you press instrument select and shift) instead of Enter.

    EDIT - factory reset will not delete the firmware version (thank you too my viewers for keeping me right). After a reset I still have v1.06 which as of June 2020 is the most recent update on the Roland website. CAUTION - if you factory reset the unit you’ll have to re-install the latest firmware update (there will be a video on how to do this soon)

    • @ASH-ou4cg
      @ASH-ou4cg 4 года назад

      Is this really true? I thought the firmware was permanent once installed and the factory reset only brings it back to its factory state based on THAT firmware. If I have 1.06 currently installed, but 1.04 was the factory installed version, will it really go back to 1.04, if I factory reset the unit?

    • @ThomasMatthewEvans
      @ThomasMatthewEvans  4 года назад +2

      @@ThomasMatthewEvans Yes please! It would be better to put in the effort to make sure that the statement is true and not based on a possibility. By the way, there was a new video put up last night, but now it's gone? I can't seem to find it anymore, did you take it down?

    Oh hell ya! What a wicked video! I had zero idea on finding a good use for the gain controls! I was quite surprised to see that you instantly pumped up the gain on all hits, regardless of where their level knob was currently set at. I thought the gain knob was only to help things cut through, if the level knob at max wasn't enough. I was babying the gain setting to only a few over 100! I guess pumping all the gain to max is what I should be doing? Do you find it clips, or distorts at all like this? I have had this device for years, but I learned something new from you tonight, so thank you sir! The offset low tom was a nice touch too AND I had no idea you could press both kicks at the same time! Brilliant! Subscribed!

    • @ThomasMatthewEvans
      @ThomasMatthewEvans  4 года назад +1

      I guess having the gain at 200 means I can turn down on the knobs from maximum instead of hitting a limit. I have the unit output to either a mixer or FL Studio mixer (via USB audio). Most of my own tracks are fired via midi from another sequencer so I usually control the velocity of each note there. Whether there is any set rules I’m not sure. I guess whatever works in your own setup 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @jjwhittle8873

    I can't tune the HH and CH. Going to Shift > Edit and Tune brings up the options as above but I can't hear any of them, and it makes no difference to the sound. And yes, I have the volume turned up. What am I doing wrong here?

    • @ThomasMatthewEvans
      @ThomasMatthewEvans  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the question. It is a very subtle adjustment and I find I have to really dial up or down the value to here a change in pitch. Also I find it easier to hear the difference if you have the CH and OH decay set as long as possible. Let me know if this helps? If not I suggest raising a ticket with Roland support

      @@ThomasMatthewEvans my units kick distorts when I max the units master volume is this normal ?

    • @Tazmanian_Ninja
      @Tazmanian_Ninja 2 года назад +1

      @@justenginkaptanoglu If it's going into a mixer, it's because the mixer doesn't like an input that high. I have a Tascam Porta Two, and its inputs distorts (in a highly undesirable way, if the inputs themselves are overdriven). I can then overdrive it in a desirable way, via the gain knob for that channel.

    0:49 I'll never forget (or forgive) the day I accidentally reset my Yamaha Reface DX to factory default, by accidentally resting my right forearm on the upper C key, while turning it on. All my presets gone. Could SO have kicked the Yamaha employee responsible for that key combo full force in the nuts for that idiocy.
    And yeah: couldn't backup those sounds beforehand, because their ultra archaic, lame website/app (I can't remember the name) that they use for saving presets: didn't work, no matter what I did. Couldn't ever create an account there.
    Morale of the story:
    1. Always study the factory default key combo, so you know what to avoid.
    2. F... Yamaha.
    As a result, I sold that Reface DX. I had made such cool presets from scratch, some of them I even wanted to use for specific tracks which would be driven a specific preset. But... POOF, gone 😵🙄

    To get rid of that hum noise DO NOT use your computer to power the boutiques. Use a phone charger or something similar.

    • @ThomasMatthewEvans
      @ThomasMatthewEvans  3 года назад

      I’m reluctant to say that I do power them from the USB mains 😂😂 I had a rouge inline suppressor on my TB03 output but that’s sorted now. Does help only having a four channel mixer for about 15 devices but.....that’s sorted now.
