I wrote my letters, got ignored, and this consultation is exactly that, a consultation before anything is decided, although Insuspect Bruce is right, they have already decided regardless. Either way, the deadline for these new rules implementation has been pushed back from 2026 to 2028, and I suspect it'll slip again. The US has shown the technology just isnt there for it yet. Also I live in the North of Scotland. There is no data signal up here, and there massive holes in data coverage that cover many many miles. Network ID can't work if there's no network lol.

You do realise that there are always two sets of rules... right? One set for us and another set for those who make/enforce those rules. "Do as we say, not as we do" is the attitude.
@xjet I mean technically no. There is only 1 set of written regulations. As for who and when they are enforced by and too is an unwritten social norm. So yeah of course he felt like they don't apply to him. He IS the law son. 😉

“Honesty is the best policy” mantra from my youth, but how far does that get you being a law abiding citizen in the UK, or anywhere? Governments and councils obviously don’t trust their citizens, if they did they would work with them to protect hobbies which connect our communities and foster common good. As you say Bruce, law breakers never abide by rules anyway, so why impose them on people who have been doing the aviation hobby for decades? Votes me thinks? Here in the UK we haven’t even got reliable rural broadband, the roads are falling apart and so is our national health service, so yes, let’s invest in network ID and good luck maintaining a connection out in the middle of rural nowhere. In the words of Sleaford Mods - UK Grim, indeed.
I like the idea of a anonymous video sharing channel, i've been thinking of it for a while. You could also make it creative commons so anyone can use the videos for commercial work, as without a named pilot the "non-commercial" aspect becomes void. Always love you videos, good work!
I stopped flying my drones both camera and freestyle about 3 years ago, i got sick of fuckwits telling me i cant fly here almost every time i was about to fly.
A few years ago, a neighbor became completely unhinged when he saw me working on a drone in front of my garage. He stated that he was within his rights to shoot it with his shotgun if I ever overflew his yard. I have been busy and it is cold out, so not much flying lately. Heart is not in it as much as in the past. Flying buddies say the same. Remote ID won't make a big difference to any that I fly with, we will still have some good safe fun. Damn shame we are at this point in the hobby, seems like there is a world-wide agenda to reduce some simple freedoms we have always enjoyed. 😐 Keep up the good work Bruce!
Bruce, Thank you for being so well focused and putting the proper perspective into these laws/regulations. For example the injury rate for flying drones is lower than golfing. Yet for golfing you don't need a license, big brother device, etc. Merry Christmas!
I'm quite positively surprised that my country (Finland) pulled back on their drone RFID requirements, requiring a EU C classification for legacy drones and outright banning FPV. I feel so lucky our regulations are so "lax" that I can fly an FPV drone outside the populated area without a second pilot for as long as I fly among the trees for example and don't go high up. Flying legacy drones without C1/C2 certification and ADS-B/RFID is also still legal outside densely populated areas and away from airports. In this country sanity has mostly prevailed with drones even if it looked bad for a while.
Yes, I thought that was "interfering with the pilot of an aircraft during flight". The bottom line should have been "is anyone or any property in danger?" but that's not how the regulations seem to work.
One of the merch vendors who seem to be the choice of many of the channels I watch is Bunker Branding in TX USA. They design, print and ship many cool items that the channels choose. There are a couple of these so called auditors here in the UK that I have come across, one of which in particular uses his mavic mini solely to provoke a response - deliberately flying over industrial or commercially sensitive areas where he knows it will cause great concern. The current laws may permit it, but common sense would tell most people that maybe it is not the best idea to fly in such areas - especially when the person involved goes out of his way to make sure the people at the site are aware of his intentions - to fly over and film, and to upload it to youtube, just to escalate the situation further. In many cases the police are called. The so called auditor of course knows he is not breaking the law. It is actions like this which will only encourage much stricter laws about where you can fly a drone in the future.

An officer approaching me while flying is going to be told that I’ll talk with him after my drone is landed and to interfere with me is a crime so unless he has legal authority to detain me which is a low standard but does require REASONABLE suspicion of a crime. Investigating a potential crime isn’t sufficient in the US without a specific crime and some reasonable suspicion. Hunches and “I think” do meet the requirement. This an officer interfering with a pilot in flight is committing a felony.
I love the idea of the mech, please keep us updated on your thoughts and plans. I am across the ditch in QLD. As for vendors, I normally buy shirts through TFury
Hey bruce, I'd love to support the channel by purchasing a shirt. A friend of mine is a pretty successful International dj, and I just bought one of the hats from his merch site the other day, and noticed that he's using a company called printful. Apparently they have nine facilities around the world, so the items can be shipped off from their facilities to customers from whichever is closest local printful factory. I don't know maybe something to check out. Absolutely loving these last videos, and I support you wholeheartedly. Thank you so much for everything you do, I strive to have this level of passion for anything in my life. Very inspiring. 👊🏻
Where were the cops when the council were commiting vandalism by ordering the destruction at council expense of the world renowned tower at the Tokoroa airfield, even after Bruce had offered to refurbish the tower at no expense to council?
I fear the companies with the best shipping rates are likely going to be the ones with the worst shopping experience, because they don't put quality first...
Networked remote ID is proposed in the UK from day 1, though they call it 'hybrid'. The proposal (comments to CAA by 10/1/24) is that first the system will try to connect to a network server, then if that fails it can fall back to broadcast. But. 1. That fallback will only be allowed in regions where the CAA allow that the network coverage is too patchy. Anywhere else it must connect to a network server. 2. If it cannot connect to a server, and fallback is not allowed, it will not allow takeoff. 3. This implies that it must always have a good GPS signal, as otherwise how would it know where it was to decide whether fallback is allowed or not. 4. Therefore, no GPS, no takeoff. Indoors? Heavy tree cover? 5. It is proposed to apply equally to all types of drones except sub 250 with no camera. So applies to commercial camera drones, commercial FPV race/freestyle quads, and home build versions of the same. No difference in type of remote ID for any of these as there is in the US. 6. Ability to actually prevent takeoff (as opposed to warn against takeoff) implies tamper proof access to the FC. Commercial and home built race/freestyle quads tend to use standard FCs and open source Betaflight firmware. To me, that implies that such craft will need special tamper proof hardware and firmware in future, where's that going to come from? But all this is OK, because the CAA have decided that the burden on the flyer is minimal. Minimal to race/freestyle quads? Yeah, right! But of course, the CAA are benevolent and know best. Geo fencing, in the form of actually stopping access to certain areas, rather than just warning, is also proposed for commercial race/freestyle quads. However, unlike a camera drone where the craft is actually flying itself with just high level input from the flyer, in this case the flyer is in direct control. So, suddenly, it is effectively going to grab the sticks from the flyer. Sounds like a crash waiting to happen to me. As well as that, all the special hardware and firmware requirements as in 6 above are likely to apply. This is much worse even than the US and is a complete disaster if it goes ahead in this form. Comments to CAA by 10/1. Probably everyone should if they can, but to be honest history shows it has little effect.
You can see that the CAA's proposal is *very* similar to the FAA's original NPRM for RID. And people still ask me "why do you care what the FAA does, you don't even live in the USA?" -- perhaps now they can see why we should *all* be concerned about what the FAA proposes/does.
@@xjetdead right, where the US leads, others follow, and the UK is tightly regulated generally, so it wasn't a huge surprise. It's a killer really, I guess there will be three groups of race/freestyle flyers: those who just ignore it, those who give it all up as a waste of time, and those who manfully and painfully try to follow the rules.

I'll buy a t-shirt or 2 instantly for postage to UK. 😁
Excellent! the SAGA continues! Where can we get the T shirt? or you still working on that. Happy Holidays!
I'll let everyone know when they're available.
Just good to see you back at it with that ole "F em" attitude.
Thanks for the share X.
The faa can have my nx8, when they pry it from my cold dead hands.
I'd love to see some fixed wing float flying here, Bruce. As soon as it warms up here in Washington DC, I might send you some footage of my float plane flights to post 😊 I'm stoked to see my Maule m7 out on the river, this Spring.
Until then, I'll be wheels up, wheels down on the sports complex behind my neighborhood. A strict no fly zone, for absolutely no good reason. 👍
Good on ya Bruce
Bruce, just been and watched that vid you pointed out and my goodness that ‘police officer’ has one heck of an ego! Keep up the good work.
So good that you 'teamed' up with Philly Drone Life too.. I was worried about him for a while.. You both are such unique brilliant human beings in your own ways. I keep on missing Philly's live show with you because of time scale and my illness routine. Never stop Bruce you are the Alexander the Great of Drones... OK I am going to look at my finances and see if I can support you in some way. Also I know youtubers hate it when I mention another good youtuber.. I gain nothing from mentioning Windswept Robert.. You him and Mikey are the real drone spade a spade genuine people on the wild wild west of the Internet.
Thanks mate... yes, I've watched a few of Winswept Robert's videos and his cutely-named drones :-)
I love auditors, they expose the stupidity of law enforcement - government BS, Isn't that what youre doing as well 🤔
Thanks, Bruce! 😊
BTW, I just discovered how and sent you a message. It's something for you to read... I hope you don't get as mad as I got when I first read it.
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And happy holidays!
I think I have seen a complaints from microlight pilots and glider pilots about nhs drone flights and amazon drone flights in the uk
I'm in MN USA... Redbubble has the right size for big guys.
Just remember the movie THE CASTLE where the small man won
Yep, that's going straight to the pool room!
Glad to see you again Bruce by any chance will be going out to the Airfield and filming your buddies fly to airplanes? How is Ron doing?
I love the idea of the mech, please keep us updated on your thoughts and plans. I am across the ditch in QLD. As for vendors, I normally buy shirts through TFury
Merry Christmas Bruce
I adopted this stance when I was 15 or so, and learned about the rules regarding airguns over here.
Great stuff bruce keep up the good work
Ty for what you do Bruce. I also bid you a Merry Xmas and a safe New Year matey.
Where were the cops when the council were commiting vandalism by ordering the destruction at council expense of the world renowned tower at the Tokoroa airfield, even after Bruce had offered to refurbish the tower at no expense to council?
So true!
The UK has literally been conquered. I wish they would save themselves but so far their prospects don't look good.
Im in Uk...... The future of the hobby is foookked
The BMFA couldn't wait to help the Government and CAA....batter us all.... We're ALL flying "drones"....which of course is bollocks....🤔😳🙄🙄🇬🇧
Dont you just love all the visual fx available today so we can make any story we want to show when we post to RUclips! 😉🤘
