My game room makes me happy. Every time I walk in my inner child is grinning ear to ear. I don’t require any other justification for it. Some people collect books, some movies, or music. I collect games, unapologetically.

Sometimes being a semi shelf collector is good! I mean I am to some degree

since I got a steamdeck it's my favorite way to play older game, most of them can just look better and play better on it. So a lot of my collect is there mostly for the look, I do still play some game on original hardware like chrono trigger recently but it's more rare.

Old games are awesome, and the advent of the digital storefronts and convenient emulation has made them easier to experience on modern hardware. Oftentimes for way less $$$ than it would take to do it the collector route.
If you’re like me and also working with limited space, it’s nice to be able to fire up a classic like RE4 or Symphony of the Night even if you don’t have the OG peripherals hanging around anymore. And RE4 is still fun even compared to the Remake, but was not going for a beat-for-beat same experience though!

Good take, I have a lot of responses on other social media that is "og or nothing" but there is an argument to be made that the better version of Chrono Trigger (for example) is the steam version that incorporates all of the DS upgrades but isn't on the DS or near as expensive

@@BlipsnPips I could see that, because certain experiences like say a Super Scope game on SNES just can’t be emulated that well. Sure I could use a gyroscopic controller function and play on PC but it just would “feel” the same.
Same goes for emulation of certain arcade cabinets that had unique interfaces. But again, theres the fact that some of those suckers are HUGE. But you’re not getting the same exact experience as the arcade.
I guess the answer really is it depends on the game. I feel like I could play the FFVII remake and then turn around and have just as much fun with the original version or even the PS4 “remaster” that came out. Same goes for a lot of things… the versions of Katamari on PS4 aren’t even the originals they are recreated in the Unity engine. Does that make it inferior? I mean I don’t think so, but I’m usually just happy to get to play at all at the end of the day.

Just from reading the title my answer would be it depends. Games like Final Fantasy VI or Ocarina of Time are always worth playing while mario 2, zelda 2 the og Pokémon games or GTA 1 didn't hold up.

Big fan of legacy games…granted i play em on NSO or whatever, but the classics definitely hold up. Ive been really enjoying remakes of old games, specifically final fantasy renaissance and zelda 2 remastered lately. Great stuff

My opinion: yes they are worth it, as a Gen z person myself born in 1998 and raised through the 2000s decade, retro gaming ive felt it boring through the 2010s days i never payed much attention to the SNES, PS1 and Dreamcast. Now around 2023 its when internet digital media gaming is making me this kind of feeling of what i would like to call "overburned symptoms or oversaturated" the experience on consuming the gaming media as modern as today just expecting to play a downloadable content make the gaming experience quiet mundane with time and i believe some few modern gamers arebquiet tired of it, in 2023 i started to get into the Final Fantasy series because they announced the pixel remasters encouraged me to play the classics even more than the remasters, ive downloaded an emulator to play the NES, SNES and PS1 games and because ive found these games SO GOOD that this encouraged me to buy an actual PS1 and an original copy of the game that i was playing and really i can feel the power of this feeling of having a physical original copy of the game with the beauthiful cover art, beathiful manuals, and beathiful CD print designs are quiet outstanding and treasury, make me feel like a pirate collecting and hunting for gold and diamonds but instead its a shiny beautiful physical original copies taht nowadays aren't what it was used to be. Retro gaming in 2024 is more a thing today than whats ever been.

More than ever am i playing Retro Games. I'm not big into 3D games & I'm tired of seeing newer games are coming out with how long game time this game has. Who wants to ride a horse for hours on end doing side missions? That is not my cup of tea. With 2D you go straight to the point with chaos all around & only your pause button to give you breathing room. Now that is how games are done! No load up time, upgrades, internet access, Credit Cards just pop in a cartridge & boom start playing.

    I get this is objective
But going back to revist old games to make your decision if they are worth keeping and then playing the one game that is constantly been rated the best game of all time. Makes this video seem kind of ridiculous.
Also 3 days to do oot is crazy and it should be illegal to call either Zelda game Zelda 64
