I saw this movie last week at The Grand Cinema in Tacoma Washington. It is a very good film, very good. I loved it. Interesting plot, excellent direction and cinematography, and the acting was fabulous. Beautiful film.
Antony Hopkins is a great actor and artist. He knows how to get into his roles perfectly - he prepares himself perfectly and adapts to the character he plays. I love all his movies.
From what i heard on the Rome media, Pope Benedict was and is a shy and gentle person. From what i saw on this trailer he seems pretty much strict and firm.

This kind of role is easy for Anthony Hopkins he can sleepwalk through it. The role of conflicted intelligent man in power. I found Jonathan Pryce to be utterly riveting as well. He’s always been underrated. I mean, he was sooo good in Brazil.
There was a vid by NerdWriter couple of years ago where he breaks down the way Anthony Hopkins approaches his scenes; amazing craftsmanship. Every word, gesture even pause has a meaning.
Anthony Hopkins is a treasure...the man is the best of all our senior actors....There is an authenticity about his performances...an utter lack of self promotion, he becomes the character he plays to the point that you believe you are listening to the person himself and become lost in his presence....I can't wait to see the two of them .... Netflix is maturing and bringing us truly outstanding drama.
The 2 Popes = 2 great actors giving a perfect acting master class. This is a great film, I enjoyed it a lot on Netflix last night... It is no doubt a risky project but the director crafted with taste and talent a very well written story and again his lead actors made this film shine brightly.

Script, Acting, Directing, Cinematography, Music score - all the parts that make up the whole are brilliant. This movie deserves oscar nominations for all the parts and the whole. It evokes that onion effect ....
It really is such an excellent film. Very well written , supremely great performances from Sir Anthony Hopkins and Sir Jonathon Pry e and with wonderful cinematography. A really rare treat these days in amongst the appalling amount of rubbish churned out by the film studios .

The author of art is speaking constantly of who He is, look around you at creation! Over 7,000 promises in His Book...I'd argue its hard to get Him to stop speaking of who He is :)
I really liked how he played this character. It must be hard to play a dark character like this, a person who is connected to one of the biggest crimes against innocent children in history, to play a character that moved around known criminals to other areas. And to play it with such sincerity, only Sir Antony Hopkins can pull that off. I’m waiting for him to do Himmler on ice at some point in the future.

Gentle perhaps, but if you read his encyclicals you can se how strict and conservative he was as far as catholicism dogma.
