@@jv8studios I am sorry for the super late reply. I have two Canon Eos R that I use for video. Even to this date. They don’t over heat (need longer record times than 30mins, I use the ninja v with the camera) and most of the client work that I do are for the web (1080p). So those cameras are perfect for what I do with for client work. To answer your question. I most definitely keep the Canon Rp around for photos. It is my go to for time-lapses. It does 6k RAW images (essentially raw video) for time-lapses. It does require extra work for post production but it is by far the better camera for time lapses than the Eos R. The EOS R does 4K timelapse but it’s baked into the camera. Essentially the camera takes the pictures and converts it to a video for you. Meaning you lose that raw, post production flexibility. Edit: outside of the timelapse feature. The RP is still a great camera. You get 26mp pictures compared to 32 on the R. Not that far off from each other. The only down side from the RP is you lose the dual pixel auto focus in 4K mode. But hell it’s not that bad. The 4K crop on the RP is only 1.6 I believe compared to 1.8 on the R. You do get a faster burst rate in photos from the R compared to the Rp but ehhh.

That is a good question since I believe there is a few viable options. If you're a little more experience manual mode. If you're starting out, or need to shoot on the move without having to worry about settings use the "video" setting. If your lens has image stabilization you could try to record in 3840x2160 at 24 fps. If you want to do slow motion 1920x1080 at 60fps and in your editor (I use Premiere Pro) do the following. 1. In Premiere Pro, create new project. 2. Create a new "Sequence" and make sure "Timebase" is set to 23.976 or 24. 3. Import video clip into your project 3.B. Duplicate your video clip. 4. On one of your video clips "Right Click" and select "Modify" 5. Select "Interpret Footage" and select "Assume this Frame Rate" 6. Type in 23.976 or 24 whatever your used in step 2. Now if you place that video clip on your "Timeline" it should be in slow motion. Since, you duplicated the clip you can use the audio or portion of the audio to use as sound effects if you wish.
How did you do the slow motion effect.your video is awesome and we have the same camera and lense.I’m still learning to use it.hope you’ll notice my comment.thank you
I'm terrible sorry for not seeing your comment sooner. I'll go ahead and reply in case you're still interested in my reply or for those seeing this in the future. -- Question: How did you do the slow motion effect? Answer: I recorded in 60 fps at 1920x1080. For the next part, as a heads up. I use Adobe Premiere Pro. 1 - Create a new Premiere Pro project. 2 - Create a new Sequence (ctrl + n or cmd + n) 3 - For "Timebase" choose either 23.976 or 24 frames/second. 4 - Import your video clip. (Optional) Duplicate your video clip. 5 - Right click on your original video clip. 6 - Select "Modify" and then "Interpret Footage". 7 - Select "Assume this frame rate" and use 23.976 or 24 fps or whatever you used in "STEP 3" and click ok. 8 - Now drag your video clip to your timeline and it should be in slow motion. Back to step 4. If you created a duplicate of your video clip, you can use portions of the audio to create or use as sound effects to use with your slow motion footage.
Ershevik maybe that will be the next video. The Rp crop is 1.6 smaller than the r. A 35mm lens is actually a 56mm lens on the Rp. You do lose the dual pixel auto focus in 4K with the Rp though.
I love the eos rp and I read its not good for videos however u proved wrong and its not solely the camera but the person behind it! Wow this had me sold on the eos rp. Im new to video & photography, what 2 RF lens would you reccomend for: 60% video & 40% photography? Im looking at rf 35mm & rf nifty fifty....something light weight for travelling that can cover both video & photography? thanks in advance :)
Thanks for the comment buddy. For sure 100% the 35mm. Cheap, f/1.8, image stabilization and a macro. 2nd lens if you can’t grab the 24-105mm f4 get the new 85mm, f2, image stabilization and is also a macro lens. I would recommend skipping the nifty fifty for now and save up the extra few hundred bucks for that 85mm. Those two lens will have you set for a long time.
Recorded at 60fps. Shutter speed 120. Since it’s all really just broll. Any talking heads, or narrative pieces record at 24fps with shutter speed at 50 or close to it. This is NAS settings. I think PAL is 25fps, 50, and 100. Edited on a 24fps timeline.
I'm sorry I didn't see your comment. I should start using "RUclips Studio" more for unanswered comments. I'm sure you have figured it out by now a year later. New Project: Goto > Sequence > New Sequence Make sure you're editing on a 3840x2160, 3840x1920, 3840x1646 sequence. When you're done with your video just export. Project already started: Goto > Sequence > Sequence Settings You'll want to change your sizes. You'll probably have to scale up your footage to something like 200%
got a quick question, are you field recording audio when you're out there or is all the nature sounds done in post, trying to master that next! got the camera after watching this video!
Thank you for the comment. Great question. Yep I'll usually grab the field recordings with my Tascam DR-40 after I capture the footage so that I can capture the real audio. There is some instances where I do need to find sound effects from websites like Artlist or Epidemic sounds. Off the top of my head for this video, I had to find "Flying Insects" for this video since it was a little difficult for me to get close enough to capture that. I'll then equalize, add some reverb, or whatever needs to be done to the audio in post.
Hey Cody, fantastic video -- appreciate the speech about the environment, too. One question - which camera profile did you use to record this? Did you modify one of the default profiles, or did you load in a different one and grade it in Premiere, etc? Thank you in advance. Planning a music video shot on the RP right now : )
Sorry for not replying right away. I shot with hand, and relied on the image stabilization from the lens and used "Warp Stabilizer" when needed in Premiere Pro.
Man I wish I could get my RP footage to look like this. I have the same lens too but I can’t shoot for shit. No idea how to get lighting and focus right.
Hey Richard, I have no doubt you could do something similar too. Just got to keep practicing. Take your camera with you everywhere, even if you don't plan to capture anything. You may feel weird at first, but you'll quickly get over that feeling. If you see something interesting, capture a fast photo or 10-30 seconds of footage to review your footage/photo and settings later. Sunrises & sunsets are a fantastic time to go out if you enjoy shooting outdoors. It's hard to ruin the lighting that these periods offer. Allowing you to focus on capturing outstanding footage or photos. If you're indoors. Turn off all the lights, and close your window blinds, too, so that you start from 0 with lighting. With your camera on and scene set. Slowly start adding lights to your scene and review your scene (maybe take 5-10 seconds of footage for each light you add to review later) each time you add a new light. Here is a few simple checklists of things to study/research/learn during your free time could be: I've included links, too, in case it helps. - Basics of the Exposure Triangle www.studiobinder.com/blog/what-is-the-exposure-triangle-explained/#:~:text=The%20exposure%20triangle%20consists%20of,elements%20properly%20expose%20a%20shot. - 5 Elements of Composition in Photography www.proprints.com/blog/the-five-elements-of-nature-photography-compositions - Basic Lighting Techniques nofilmschool.com/film-lighting-techniques-and-examples I wouldn't be discouraged. In fact, seeing that you left a comment here and are willing to mention your frustrations shows that you're already well on your way to capturing great things. We all hit that frustration/learning phase. It's normal, and we all go through it no matter what we try to learn. I'm going through it now with After Effects. Keep grinding.

Check out the latest video. Short and that is the same setup. It’s my favorite setup currently. I love the look of the 35mm but the wider angle lens in the 14-18 range is growing on me.
Hi Cody, Nice video. other than that I observed your video width and length is bigger (means frame) if compare with others use video and its looks great. I am eager to know How you create this frame size (aspect ratio)?
Pankaj Patel - Hey Pankaj the resolution and aspect ratio I am using is 3840x1600 or 21:9. It’s a popular aspect ratio with mobile phones which is why the video should play edge to edge on your phone watching on landscape mode without having to crop in on the video. It’s also a growing ultra wide resolution among monitors. ---- 3840 × 1600 This resolution has a 12:5 aspect ratio (2.4:1, or 21.6:9). It is equivalent to WQXGA (2560 × 1600) extended in width by 50%, or 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) reduced in height by 26%. This resolution is commonly encountered in cinematic 4K content that has been cropped vertically to a widescreen 2.4:1 aspect ratio. The first monitor to support this resolution was the 37.5-inch LG 38UC99-W. Other vendors followed, with Dell U3818DW, HP Z38c, and Acer XR382CQK. This resolution is referred to as UW4K, WQHD+,[27] UWQHD+, or QHD+,[28][29][30] though no single name is agreed upon.
Alex Cherednikov thanks Alex for the comment :) why I ran the test for others to see how the footage would look. Quick question do you think the video quality setting on RUclips was still set to auto and perhaps RUclips may have changed the resolution? Sometimes RUclips does that if you get a bad connection. It does it to me all of the time :( and I have to set the RUclips resolution manually.
Just goes to show that you can get amazing footage from an 8-bit camera. I had the RP for a while. Now, I'm thinking that this would make a nice B cam to my Sony A7iv.
raksh9 for the smooth focus pulls. I set the af point to the single af point so that way I had some if not complete control on what to focus on and in camera I adjusted the tracking one notch towards the smooth side. It did take me 2-3 takes for a lot of these shots. All hand held. I do want to say recording in 60fps for that x2 or x2.5 slow motion helped and throwing a warp stabilizer on most of the clips helped out a lot too. Great question and thank you for the generous comment.
I think what helped the most was using the single auto focus point. It really gives you complete control what to focus on. Edit: use 1080p for dual pixel autofocus. 4K doesn’t have dual pixel. 1080p also uses the full frame. 4K has a 1.6 crop I believe

If you want to do slow motion 1920x1080 at 60fps and in your editor (I use Premiere Pro) do the following.
1. In Premiere Pro, create new project.
2. Create a new "Sequence" and make sure "Timebase" is set to 23.976 or 24.
3. Import video clip into your project
3.B. Duplicate your video clip.
4. On one of your video clips "Right Click" and select "Modify"
5. Select "Interpret Footage" and select "Assume this Frame Rate"
6. Type in 23.976 or 24 whatever your used in step 2.
Now if you place that video clip on your "Timeline" it should be in slow motion.
Since, you duplicated the clip you can use the audio or portion of the audio to use as sound effects if you wish.
Wonderful camera, i have to get one 🥶🥶
Was this shot by 4K or 10 or 1080p?
1080p to take advantage of the dual pixel auto focus.
It was upscaled to 4k in post.
Excellent work with the Canon RP
Thanks man. (1 year later)

Question:
How did you do the slow motion effect?
Answer:
I recorded in 60 fps at 1920x1080. For the next part, as a heads up. I use Adobe Premiere Pro.
1 - Create a new Premiere Pro project.
2 - Create a new Sequence (ctrl + n or cmd + n)
3 - For "Timebase" choose either 23.976 or 24 frames/second.
If you created a duplicate of your video clip, you can use portions of the audio to create or use as sound effects to use with your slow motion footage.
it wiill be nice to see a difference with 4k cropped or scaled
Ershevik maybe that will be the next video. The Rp crop is 1.6 smaller than the r. A 35mm lens is actually a 56mm lens on the Rp. You do lose the dual pixel auto focus in 4K with the Rp though.
Cody Turk can the R perform the dual pixel auto focus in 4K?
Incredible film, beautiful. You're phenomenal
:) to kind, thank you for the comment made me smile today.
Excellent
Beautiful 😊
Thank you..
The video you made is Top 😍
Thank you! 😃
Hey do you mind telling me what program/app you use to edit the video for the test footage ? Thanks!
I used Adobe Premiere Pro
What settings you had it on
what profile did you use on cam? Your pdf link to settings already expired
hey! i just used the standard picture profile
what color profile did you use? it turned out very beautiful!
It was the Standard profile. Saturation was increased by 10 or 20 in Premiere Pro.
Wow! You do some great work, forget about which camera or lens it was.
Mesmerizing video Cody. Great video with great message. You motivated me in video production and you got a subscriber too :) :)
Thank you so much :) avinash
Awesome! How is the video production going ?
Invest in Nd filter too. The tiffen 82mm variable one is good. Grab the step up Rings so you can adapt those lens to the Nd filter
@@codyturk thanks a million :)
Anytime man. Anything to help out.
Shutter speed used in tis video!!?
Recorded at 60fps. Shutter speed 120. Since it’s all really just broll.
Any talking heads, or narrative pieces record at 24fps with shutter speed at 50 or close to it.
This is NAS settings. I think PAL is 25fps, 50, and 100.
Edited on a 24fps timeline.
I just keep thinking how awesome this would look on a Fuji X camera 😂 Great message and well shot 👍🏻
Fuji does a full frame I will jump on it.
Amazing video. Was this shot in 4k or upscaled?
it was upscaled. The Rp uses the dual pixel auto focus in 1080p unlike the 4k. But yep 1080p and upscaled to 4k
Upscaled :)
Edit: I replied to fast. Recorded in 1080p to get access to dual pixel auto focus and the 60fps
Great video! What fps timeline did you end up editing and exporting in
Hey Curtis thank your for the comment. I shot in 30 FPS edited and exported in 23.976.
Subbed!
Cody how do you upscale 1080P to 4K
I'm sorry I didn't see your comment. I should start using "RUclips Studio" more for unanswered comments.
I'm sure you have figured it out by now a year later.
New Project:
Goto > Sequence > New Sequence
Make sure you're editing on a 3840x2160, 3840x1920, 3840x1646 sequence.
When you're done with your video just export.
Project already started:
Goto > Sequence > Sequence Settings
You'll want to change your sizes.
Sometimes I'll use my Iphone 12 now to record audio since it can now capture loseless audio quality if I am without my field recorder.
Damn great video bro..crazy what u get for $999 camera body
No kidding. If I could start all over again. I’d have start with a phone and a 100 dollar field recorder lol.
this is beautiful n i loved every second of it... great job but did u use any ND filter?
Thank you. I used a Tiffen Variable ND Filter
You should have recorded faces and people, just landscapes are not enough for me, the objective test is only 50%
잘 봤어요!
what is the Aspect Ratios of this video ?
I am trying to find a comment that asked the same thing. It’s buried somewhere in here. But it’s 21:9 I believe
Hey Cody, fantastic video -- appreciate the speech about the environment, too. One question - which camera profile did you use to record this? Did you modify one of the default profiles, or did you load in a different one and grade it in Premiere, etc? Thank you in advance. Planning a music video shot on the RP right now : )
Sorry for not seeing this a lot sooner. If I remember correctly I believe I used the landscape profile. No color grading.
@@codyturk Thanks!
How do u manage to get that focus almost spot on every time u switch between foreground and background?
I am actually creating a video on this. I’ve gotten a lot of similar questions. :) put spot af is really the trick.
@@codyturk okay thank you!! :)
Did you use a gimbal?
I did not, handheld. Used the lens image stabilization and warp stabilizer in post when needed.
@@codyturk beautiful work and thank you
@@NewYork0riginal thank you for the compliment
Do you use stabilizer or you shoot from hand?
Sorry for not replying right away. I shot with hand, and relied on the image stabilization from the lens and used "Warp Stabilizer" when needed in Premiere Pro.
Man I wish I could get my RP footage to look like this. I have the same lens too but I can’t shoot for shit. No idea how to get lighting and focus right.
Hey Richard,
I have no doubt you could do something similar too.

I wouldn't be discouraged. In fact, seeing that you left a comment here and are willing to mention your frustrations shows that you're already well on your way to capturing great things. We all hit that frustration/learning phase. It's normal, and we all go through it no matter what we try to learn. I'm going through it now with After Effects. Keep grinding.
geeeez! this footage is sick! i also have the rp and low key wanna try to make a video. Is the focus on auto or manual?
Thank you. It was auto focus single point.
Cody Turk Would you mind making a video on how to do the single point AF focus pulls and how to film a video like this on autofocus? Thanks for the great content!
@@zjtkk08 hey sorry for being late to reply did you end up seeing my video on how I did that? Again I am sorry for not seeing your reply sooner.
By the way, can I ask what camera/lens setup you were vlogging with in the beginning? Looked good!
Yeah, it was the Canon EOS R with the RF 35mm f/1.8 lens.
Check out the latest video. Short and that is the same setup. It’s my favorite setup currently. I love the look of the 35mm but the wider angle lens in the 14-18 range is growing on me.
@@codyturk I like it!
----
3840 × 1600
This resolution has a 12:5 aspect ratio (2.4:1, or 21.6:9).
@@codyturk Thanks
I have RP and If I wish the same frame width like your above video, I need to any special software to adjust this frame size?
I use adobe premiere to set my aspect ratio. :) but you should be able to do it with any editor. Final Cut, Resolve, iMovie for example.
The voice in the background, who is it?
It’s Harrison Ford
Sweet vid! What did you use for stabilization?
Hey thanks for the comment. The lens stabilizer, steady hands I like to think lol. And in post added warp stabilizer.
@@codyturk had me thinking you were using a gimbal!
What did I just saw!? This is an absolute RUclips content creating game change. Regardless of what your topic is about. We need more of this. 💪
Thank you Anais, I still keep coming back to this comment for motivation. Thank you again for commenting.
How you do this nice fluently refocusing?
Spot af
My man.
Это восхитительно! Какое красивое видео
Thank you. ❤
I think fuji cameras are best in video output
I get some money, I would love to try a Fuji camera. I’ve heard good things about their colors.
I’d Iove to see a full frame camera from them though .
Beautiful footage but the video itself looks like an upscaled 720p :(
Alex Cherednikov thanks Alex for the comment :) why I ran the test for others to see how the footage would look.
Wow. How did you get such smooth focus pulls? Did you get that by hand, or does the RP do this by itself?
raksh9 for the smooth focus pulls.
@@codyturk That's amazing, all handheld! I can see this method working when you have the time to pick your shots. Beautiful composition and editing, too.
