@@SabertoothTigress I actually saved it and put it on DVD 😁 I'd buy the American version if they'd release it, but until then, this was my only option. 😅
Always super cool to see other people discovering this niche pocket of Animal Crossing history! Kind of a bummer Nintendo never officially localized it, but alas. If you don't mind, there are just a few more things I want to comment on: - 1:43 - Somebody else already mentioned it, but yeah, the characters have different names in the Japanese versions of the games. In the fan dub, they do use the English names, which is neat. - 2:32 - Yu doesn't actually live in Animal Village. He's from the town over, but regularly goes to Animal Village to hang out with Alfonso. It would be more accurate to say he's that one griefer online who keeps making a mess of things, haha. - 2:38 - Those blue roses specifically belong to Apollo, the eagle villager. One of the subplots of the movie is that Ai is afraid of Apollo because he thinks he's mad at her about it. Turns out the whole time Apollo wasn't that pressed about it and he only seems that way because he has such a stoic face, hehe. - 3:35 - What Margie did to Ai is even worse. Girl had a big farewell party for herself but intentionally went out of her way to keep Ai in the dark because "she didn't want to leave town sad." Ai only finds out after Rosie asked why she wasn't there in the first place. Just as if Ai's day couldn't get any worse, she's told by Whitney the Wolf that she needs to stop crying and be happy for Margie going to accomplish her dreams. Long story short, Margie is a crappy friend, haha. - 4:07 - I miss the observatory from the older games. It was cute; you could even make your own constellations. - 5:10 - Margie is off for the holidays and decided to come for a visit. Since the whole town is off looking for these ship parts, someone told her she could find Ai and friends near the caves. I remember being so into this movie as a child, haha. Even now, I wish the games took some cues from the film and introduced stuff like caves, the summer and winter festivals, and even the weird alien stuff in the end. Although, I really think Animal Crossing is better suited for a slice-of-life episodic series than a film. They would be able to adapt a lot more, and I think that's truer to the ways the games are played--a little bit every day. Anyways, nice video!
@@SabertoothTigressYeah, Margie is kind of the worst, haha. I would say Ai is very warranted in dwelling in her Bella Swan arc. I say cry your heart out, Ai; you got wronged so hard.
Years ago, back when I was obsessed with City Folk since it was new, I had found out about this and there was a really great fan dub of it here on RUclips. It's most likely gone now but there migt be others that exist in other platforms. A majority of the aspects from this anime movie actually take inspiration from the DS game Wild World, where things like Nook hiring you right off the bat, the observatory existing and Gulliver appearing as an alien actually happen in that game. City Folk was basically the same game but for the Wii with a few additional features so it was really cool to me seeing so many of those game elements in an animated form! It's so cool you were able to find a physical disc of the film! Glad you enjoyed it and found it interesting enough to share with so many other people. For me, it brought back so many fond memories of just hanging out and playing around in my own and other friends and families towns... So, Thank you for making this 😊
Watched this full years ago on here dubbed in English, unironically one of my favorite anime films ever, I still remember the story so I’ll give this small explanation regarding Margie :) Margie had a going away party which Ai hadn’t gone to, if I recall correctly she WAS invited but I believe she didn’t receive the invitation? Also about the names being different: depending where you live ALL villagers names are changed, in this case the names used in this are the Japanese names
it's funny having caves in this movie considering animal crossing was supposed to have dungeon crawler aspects during development but yeah wth was that movie lmao
Amusingly the last time I saw a review for this movie they neglected to mention the whole ufo part. 😅 Also I’m curious if they ever used any of the movie stuff as game event dlc.
That would’ve been so cute. If we could see it dubbed I can’t stand watching things other languages and not be able to read the subject in sync with bad vision it’s not easy.
I watched this first in March of 2023, and it's been my comfort ever since. I've written at 64,000 word analysis on it and I'm still not done. Favourite movie of all time easily, but I don't really watch that many.
You have to have a region free DVD player so you can watch movies from other countries! Or if you know how to rip DVDs you can just watch the file after you rip it!
I gotcha! You're allowed to rip a movie for your own use as long as you LEGALLY own it. Like if you wanted to watch it on a trip but didn't want to take the physical DVD with you. 😊
Nintendo needs to make an animal crossing movie that’s live action maybe and if it can be in English and other languages too it would be awesome but hey maybe for the next game a movie can be made to advertise the movie and maybe if they do this I think it would make people want to pick up the new game even more than new horizons and I know it sounds wrong but although I loathe entirely hate snow irl in winter I do like it in animal crossing because I don’t have to be face to face with actual snow in real life but I don’t mind it in animal crossing
I remember watching it on youtube *years* ago! it had english subtitles, i'm surprised how you didn't find a version with them!
It probably got taken down 🥺 I’m sure they got copyrighted on it. 😭 Thanks for watching! ☺️

The Internet Archive hosts fan English subtitled and dubbed versions! Sadly that's the only preservation i know of for English speakers.
Of course we can, there's a full version on RUclips with subtitles. I'm pretty sure some fans even did some dubbed versions. I love this film!

I didn’t even know there was an animal crossing movie 😭
Well now you do! 😊
I watched it once on RUclips 5-6 years ago (:
It got taken down though. I loved it
it's funny having caves in this movie considering animal crossing was supposed to have dungeon crawler aspects during development but yeah wth was that movie lmao
Yeah! Honestly having Animal Crossing be a dungeon game would be so fun!
Nook with defined paws is so adorable I can't :0
woah, i watched the full movie in english dub from some link i got in a youtube comment section back in like 2020 lol
The movie's based on Animal Crossing: Wild World, so it takes most of its stuff from that game.
I still need to play Wild World! Now I REALLY need to play Wild World lol
I once found an English version. Though I don't remember where.
I had to buy it on dvd to watch it 😅
there was a fandub of the whole movie on youtube split into four parts or something, it might be on a google drive or something now
The Animal Crossing movie is such a nostalgic feeling movie - probs because it's based on Wild World. Gives me happy memories. :3
hahah i never knew what it was about! what a cute movie
So cute! ☺️
The character names are "different" because they are the original Japanese names.
This has very similar energy to playing Lego Harry Potter without having watched or read the source material.
But it has been out in sub and dub long ago 😅
Amusingly the last time I saw a review for this movie they neglected to mention the whole ufo part. 😅 Also I’m curious if they ever used any of the movie stuff as game event dlc.
We need an event where the ufos visit haha
I watched it after New Leaf with subtitles. Lol I forgot her name was Ai. My second resident rep. is named Ai on my newest island. 💕😸
Awwww that’s so cute you have a resident named Ai 🥹
Oh wait. I heard about this movie. It’s really weird. I wonder if they’ll make a newer Animal Crossing movie sometime in the future
Seeing how they just came out with the Mario movie and are working on a Zelda movie I hope so!
Ooh! I forgot The Animal Crossing anime movie existed I think watched it on RUclips
There is an official weirder dub on RUclips, but it only got to the part where pascal is shown
I think I saw that while I was trying to look up summaries of the movie haha
Maybe that explains my memories, I remember watching this movie but I don't remember any of that Gulliver stuff.
That would’ve been so cute. If we could see it dubbed I can’t stand watching things other languages and not be able to read the subject in sync with bad vision it’s not easy.
Reading subtitles while also trying to pay attention to what's happening on-screen is hard enough! When you have bad vision it's impossible!
The german has a good fan dub on dailymotion
That’s awesome! If I ever learn German I’ll check it out!
THIS IS ACTUALLY REAL?! HOW DID I NOT LEARN ABOUT THIS BEFORE?! 😭😭😭😭😭
It’s a hidden gem!

Kinda surprised you didn't watch fan subs.
There’s a lot of reasons I didn’t watch a fan sub, but mostly I just wanted to buy the movie for my self since I collect animal crossing merch ☺️
So wild!
Thanks for watching!

Thank you!!!
