It's been about a week now since I released this video, and I'm absolutely astonished and so incredibly touched by the reception that it's been getting so far. It means so much to me how much this video has been resonating with all of you, and it makes me so extraordinarily happy to see how big of a community this game still has. Working on this video back in October, I never could have IMAGINED the amazing response that it would be getting!
It's amazing how many similar, yet unique memories we all have with this game. Hearing you all share your own stories of New Leaf has been such a cool experience, and some of you have even moved me close to tears with your incredibly kind words about Teddy as well.
So, from the bottom of my heart; thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
I've got so many more video ideas planned (I've even starting working on my next one already!), so stay tuned! I hope you guys love it just as much as you enjoyed this one!
Happy New Years, everyone! You're all such kind, amazing people and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Stay safe, have fun, and I'll catch you all in the next video!

I started playing New Leaf 3 years ago. I knew New Horizons was out but I wasn't sure if I could afford a Switch. I didn't knew it, but it was a game that kept me up. I remember those warm summer nights, sitting outside, parents drinking some wine and me catching sharks on Tortimer's. It was an amazing half a year with that game, but then I didn't feel like playing it. During the time without it, I tried to end my life multiple times. I didn't feel like getting out of bed and something inside me knew that even tho I have the game next to me, Rosie wouldn't like to see me like this. I finally found the right balance to finally play again, and everything is same, even if it isn't a beautiful night, I still feel those moments when I was younger inside me. New Leaf is the most special game for me, and forever will be.

11 to 21 is probably the most amount of change you ever get in a 10 year period. It feels like such a vast amount of time has passed. The next 10 fly by and it only goes faster as you age.

The more you grow up, the harder it can get to look back. Back in the era of New Leaf, I still had my sister with me. She was a light in the world, a kind and sensitive soul, but also smart, cultured, witty and funny. We used to play together and I can still visit her house in the game. It’s impeccably decorated in a Christmas theme. It’s been over 4 years since she passed away and I’ve missed her every day.
The more you grow up, the harder it gets to look back, but that’s because of all the amazing memories you’ve made along the way. I’m impossibly grateful to have been loved by someone as wonderful as my sister. I’m taking the happiness she brought me and carrying it into each new year. Thank you for making such a sweet video, that took me back into my memories… May all the joy you’ve felt in the past, and all the people you’ve loved, accompany you into the future, always. 🥰

Beautiful video. It made me happy and sad. I'm 21 as well, and it's weird thinking about how fast time went by. I live and go to school almost 1000 miles away from where I grew up now, and this brought back a lot of memories. I grew up with my dog Daisy. She was born the same year as me, but we had to put her down 2 years ago when she was 19. 19 is crazy old for a dog, and I still miss her, just being in each other's presence. Animal Crossing New Leaf helped pull me through some rough times in my childhood, and it also pulled me through the pandemic. I stopped playing it. It's probably been like 2 years since I played it, but because of this video, I think I'm gonna open my DS back up!

I remember when the game was first announced around 2010. I was around 12 years old and was super excited about it. I had played the DS and Wii versions and would hop into developer Nintendo streams in japanese I didn't even understand just to learn something more about the game. I fell in love with it.
I remember planning out how my town was gonna be, all the things I wanted to do, I did multiple maps drawn by hand while bored in class.
When the game finally released I bought it with all my savings. It's probably the one game I've spent more time into in my whole life, even more than CSGO, and I have around 4k hours in CSGO.
I even made irl friends by sharing the 3DS games and talking about the game with other kids after basketball. It was and will be one of the happiest memories in my life.
The amount of joy I had with this game, the friends I made, even if I lost them eventually, is priceless. Truly one of the best games of all time.

New Leaf is by far my favorite Animal Crossing game. One of my first games on my own handheld, and my first Animal Crossing game. The amount of hours I put in that game is insane. Every accomplishment made the game feel more alive. I mostly talking about Main Street. Main Street is this run down shopping center when you first arrive. But as you progress, you open more shops, and some expand. Main Street is something I hope they bring back in future installments. From a select number of shops, to a full bustling shopping district. Best game on 3DS in my opinion.

I was playing new leaf again last night cause I love going back to my newer save and there’s truly something about winter, and the inviting warm ambience of the game! You don’t have a million things outside to decorate or many conveniences like in new horizons, but the simplest tasks of talking to the villagers (they have the most hilarious and unique winter dialogues) shaking the apple trees, and checking the igloo that made me feel so purely happy! ❄️ it really has the most lovely music also!

Dude I wish I could’ve had more time with this game. I got into Animal Crossing pretty late, I really only started becoming a BIG Nintendo fan around 2016-2017. And back in 2019 when New Horizons was announced at E3, I was interested and knew the series was loved by many, so I wanted to play it eventually. Well luckily my friend got a bday present around the time, that being a trip to NYC (we live in Upstate NY so it wasn’t too far) and she brought me and my dad along. We went there for the release of Mario Maker 2 at the Nintendo Store because both of us were super excited for it. So I got there, and then instead of buying SMM2, I decided to buy New Leaf because I didn’t have a Switch at the time lmfao. I got one later that year but that’s beside the point. I remember everything about that game so vividly, it was all so magical. This is one of my favorite memories of all time, just waking up at around 6am and going up to the plaza, just listening to the music as I wake up and look out my window. I didn’t even play the game on those mornings, I just listened and enjoyed the atmosphere. Hell when I first started the game and it had the train segment, I was on a train irl on my way home! My god I could talk about this game and my childhood memories for hours lol but now I’m just rambling. All I’m gonna say is that I was 11 when I got into Animal Crossing, and now I’m 16, getting ready to graduate, to drive, to work, and to tackle on my future. In a way, I feel that New Leaf is almost a time capsule of my childhood, and I love it for that :)

There was certainly something a little bit more magic about the games that released on 3DS. These were rarely games trying to be something big and impressive, but rather more focused on just being fun, even if a little gimmicky. I dont have my original black 3DS that I got for Christmas back in 2011, or any of the miis on streetpass or people in my friendlist on that console anymore. It broke around 2017, when I got a switch. I ended out getting an original 2DS just for Animal Crossing New Leaf, which I eventually sold and got a New 2DS and played through a lot of the games I never played as a kid, like Fire Emblem Awakening.
One of the things about New Horizons is that it leaves the previous games feeling incomplete, even if theyre just as fun (in my opinion even more). As if theyre missing an aspect that was never really a core part of the series anyways. New Horizons gives you an island that you have full control over and can customize fully, and you can gather resources and craft. Honestly I dont think these mechanics make the game all that much more fun than New Leaf, but it does make New Leaf look like its missing something it never needed.

I really resonate with your tribute. I lost my childhood cat early this year, she was 18 years old and grew up with me. I'm 25 now and I used to play animal crossing for hours in my bed room. I would be laying on my stomach playing the game and my cat was sleeping on my back. I wouldn't want to get up to bother her, so I kept playing the game. She was always my constant throughout my growing up, and so was this game. The game remains a reminder of the childhood/teen years I had and the times I still lived with my Mom and siblings. Slowly my siblings moved out one by one, until it was just Me, Mom, and my Cat. I'd play the game when I felt lonely, and would spend hours cuddled up in the bed with my cat as I did.
I'm moved out on my own now. My cat came with me when I did and we kept snuggling and playing games in the bed until January 17th this year. Since then I have found two rescue cats that I hate taken in, and they seem to enjoy the snuggle/game sessions just as much. I haven't touched New Leaf since college, and I don't know if I can without feeling deep nostalgia and melancholy. I hope my villagers are doing well, and that the Brewster has a seat open for me whenever I can come back.

the format of this video is really engaging. It truly comes across visually how a video game blurs the line between a game and real life. You did an excellent job with the "personal vlog" vibe, with the garden videos you took in the intro, and later on the interview style, involving some of your personal friends. To this day, whenever it rains, I often still think of the rain music and of other hours like 2pm whenever I'm giddy. Another thing I carry from animal crossing is the fashion and interior designing. AC has become a sample book for the kind of art vanguard I liked, such as always choosing the kiddie collection for its fun pop art style. I want to end my comment by saying not only does it comes across you're artistic, with all the curated visuals and humanistic approach to something so personal to you, but your positivity and outlook in life are what shine the most.

I don’t have the heart to pick up new leaf again. I had the game cartridge and still do, I never will get rid of it, but my 3ds broke in early 2016.
It feels like a time capsule now, to a time before my mom died. To a time before everything. I haven’t touched it since but it still has my old boyfriends account (who lived w me at 13-15, weird situation but whatever), my old friends houses from games they’ve probably lost years and years ago still in the HHA showcase. It all is too much but I’ll keep the cartridge forever. And the memories in my heart. I’m going on 23, but that cartridge forever serves as a time capsule, a preservation of a much more innocent 14 year old me will forever exist through that New Leaf cartridge.

I first played New leaf in 2019 when a friend owned the game. Since my friend ended up selling the game, I ended up buying my own copy of this game and spent over 400 hours in it. This game will always be nostalgic to me than New Horizons. The music and the fearures in New Leaf are so good, its one of my Favourite 3DS games.

this was such an incredibly beautiful video, it reminded me of all of the reasons why this is my favorite game. I actually got into it a lot later, I was introduced to the series in 2018 and got new leaf in 2020, but i’ve already gained such fond memories from it. I got it right at the start of summer, so i would stay up late catching bugs on the island and running around town, and those nights were just so calming. there’s something so special about this game to me, and I’m so happy that so many other people share that sentiment. I’m so busy now and don’t play as much as I’d like to, but it’s always so comforting to know that my town will always be there. this video is so incredible and really captures the spirit of the game, amazing job :)

The first time I played new leaf was when my uncle let me play on his 3ds and he just so happened to have acnl on there, I asked if I could play and he was so excited to show me everything about it he couldn't wait for me to finish my chores or anything (thank god lmao) I was about 7 or 8 years old then, and it was quite a bit since it came out then, but my uncle was still obsessed, he would play it all the time while I watched him play.

Tbh, I’ve never played the game. I got into it during covid with ACNH, but I did eventually get a copy of New Leaf. I decided to watch your video just for fun. I have to say I loved the way you presented it, and it actually inspired me to write a new story that will revolve around a gamer. I’m sorry for your loss, I’ve lost a pet bird in the past so I know what it feels like. Given that your video inspired my (potential) story, would you mind if I named my MC after your dog Teddy? I don’t know what the story will be, but a “final scene” came to mind as I watched your video, and I’m hoping it will resonate with players who gamed in the early 2000s when online gaming was new and the community was amazing. So many online friends we made back then, so many of them haven’t logged back on in years. Wonder what happened?

    My first animal crossing game
Watched Zakkscottgaming and fell in love with it. I just remember waiting until 8am to get the shops. And hearing that main street song. Going to the island, going to my friends islands.
Figuring the game out for myself. I sometimes wonder how I played the game so much back then doing little things but being so entertained. I remember at night I’d wait till 8pm to go to the island and catch all the beetles
From catching bugs and fish to researching Gracie grace and how to upgrade tnt mart, or how to get the cafe or police station, or a perfect town. Also getting path QR codes and golden items.
Even doing the duplication glitch with the WiFi switch on the side with some of my mates.
Met some of them through miiverse and to this day we still speak. we would play this game. And just chat and have fun.
    I miss it.
I hope they port it to switch because I would play this game so much.

Great video! I actually watched at work and was sitting at my desk getting emotional over your tribute to Teddy. I started playing New Leaf for the first time in 2020 and still have a vivid memory of waiting in line in my car to take a COVID test after I was exposed at work. My roommate is immunocompromised and I was terrified that he might get sick because of me (he didn't, he's fine). I needed a low-stakes distraction and the 3DS fits in my purse; it was the perfect combination. I played New Leaf pretty much daily for a year and still check in on my town every now and then.

I love how this is edited. This is such a unique take on making a video of New Leaf. Most videos just talk about the game itself and thats it, however this video is more focused on the experiences and memories of playing the game, and how the people who played the game have changed. It only took a min or two of watching this video to subscribe. I look forward to more videos from you, and I hope you make more of this kinda content.
New Leaf is a very special game to me as well, and it's one of my favorite video games of all time. It's the majority opinion, but New Leaf is definitely better than New Horizons in so many ways, and thats not nostalgia talking. Animal Crossing is such a huge part of my life, I'm currently almost done 100 percenting New Horizons, and without getting into it, animal crossing legitimately saved my life, and both New Leaf and New Horizons have helped me through a lot of tough times.
I remember that I first found out about New Leaf through my best friend in middle school (who I still know to this day!) and Chuggaa starting a LP of it. I got it shortly after, and fell in love with it. I would play it every day for years, and the soundtrack still remains my favorite video game soundtrack of all time. I would play it every day after school, and I would play alongside Chuggaa whenever he would upload a new episode.
I could go on and on, but I'd rather save it for animal crossing videos that I plan to make on my own channel.
Thanks for making this video, it reminded me of how much I adore New Leaf and how much it means to me.
