Hopefully they discount them eventually so I can get them and compare them to the Sky as well. Unfortunately I can’t buy every one I see good reviews on! I’m doing a lot more trail running as well so I keep buying those as well😬. Well done on the park run, cracking time💪🏼👏👏
I think you will go for the Edge. I’ve only done Beckton park run in London as stay nearby a couple of times a year. So friendly and a decent course I haven’t bothered trying anywhere else
Hi Paul, will do a comparison review of them both shortly. I have a 10k next week where I will give the Edge another good. Will definitely try Beckton park, it sounds great!
What I find interesting is that you went even faster in the Cielo X1 at the same Parkrun a little while back. Granted you were still recovering from sickness this time around, but it’s interesting that the Cielo can hang with much lighter shoes over the 5k distance. I always thought of it as being more suited to longer distances. I haven’t tried either of these shoes, but I do have the Hoka Rocket X2 which I find good for 5k up to HM. Have you tried it? I’d be interested in your thoughts on how it compares to other race shoes that you’ve run in. I’m planning on doing my first full marathon next year and am trying to work out which shoes to use for it. I’ll be aiming for a sub-4hr time and I’m currently leaning towards the Cielo X1 at this stage. I have the Hoka Skyward X and love that shoe for my everyday runs (even more so than the Superblasts), so I’ve been quite impressed with the brand so far.
Actually I just saw that the Cielo X1 2.0 has been announced and is lighter than the original version. I might have to hold out for that one. Apparently it is being released mid-Feb.
Hi David, that is indeed exciting news, I think the current Cielo x1 would indeed make a brilliant Marathon shoe, I’ve used it for two Marathons and set PB’s in both, the only caveat is that you have to get used to the shoe first. It has an extreme rocker, which can make it feel unstable, until you get used to it. I personally don’t find the weight a problem, but if they can make the v2 even lighter by improving the upper, then great. Just really hope they don’t mess with the foam. Like you I think Hoka is onto a winner with this. I also love the Skyward X and the Mach X 2, and would happily have s shoe rotation with just Hoka shoes. Haven’t tried the Rocket X2 yet, but that is on my list. I have a video coming out in the afternoon that you should definitely watch. Good luck with your marathon training, let me know how it goes. By the way, which Marathon are you gunning for?
@ thanks Ed, I’m in Australia and planning on doing the Gold Coast marathon in July next year, so I have plenty of time to prepare for it. It’s nice and flat, so should be good for a first-time marathoner like myself. I’ve done a few half marathons with a PB of 1:39, so I should hopefully be able to get under 4 hours for the full marathon with enough training. The new Cielo X1 seems to have moved closer to the Rocket X2 in terms of weight, but they have kept the aggressively curved rocker from the original version, so it might be a good mix of their two current race shoes. I’m excited to see how it performs. By the way I just discovered your channel yesterday and love your detailed shoe reviews and comparisons. After watching a couple of your reviews, I had to subscribe because I love this sort of stuff. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much David, that means a lot to me and good luck with your Marathon, I have my eye on Sydney one day, but will have to save up for that one. Good luck with your Marathon and 🤞 they don’t mess the Cielo up. Also keep your eye on the Saucony Endorphin Elite 2, I’ve been told that is like the Cielo on Steroids, but not sure that is a good thing 😂

Have you tried the Hoka Tecton x3, really like that trail shoe. It is light, fast and cushioned, but with enough stability to do some technical ish trails.
@ not as yet I have the first version but not too keen, it’s got too much room and seems to slide around. Enjoying the Saucony Endorphin Rift, won two age category prizes in it

Big fan of asics 👌
Totally Agree! They are incredible running shoes, the FF Turbo + foam is perfect.
