Landry Prichard The first movie? Sir Alec Guinness and Harrison Ford had more impact than Mark Hamill did. One could even say Carrie Fisher did.
In the end we see the saga was really a story about Anakin Skywalkers rise and fall. Vader was the protagonist. Luke was the foil.
Frank Oz is so hilarious that he won't even accept a compliment. What a humble guy.
Mark is a seriously talented impressionist, in this interview alone he gives us Harrison Ford, George Lucas, Yoda, Sir Alec, AND Katherine Hepburn!
Mark was the perfect actor for Luke. No one could’ve played that character like him
Especially the part where he tried to kill a member of his family, just like he, his wife, and his son tried to get the son's girlfriend to do. "Mark told me it was just crazy to bring a child into the world that no one wanted." I agree though... him as Luke, the character... it probably would've sucked, done by anyone else.
Thing is, that's what we always say. If someone else did the part, we'd say the exact same thing about them instead.
Nah I'd argue any of the young actors in the 70s could've played the part and I love him as Luke. Joker, now that's a role that I can't see anyone playing like him.

That bit about the little boy who lost his arm but said he wasn't scared because Luke Skywalker had lost his hand really got me. Man, I don't know how Mark kept it together after hearing that one. _THAT_ shows you how much of an effect you really have on people, Star Wars.
And then the boy realized that bionic limbs like the ones in Star wars don't exist yet..

I agree, he is immensely likeable. Regarding the negative ninny’s who responded here: if I can have friends with which I vehemently disagree politically but still love them like brothers and sisters, I can like the more than personable Mr. Hamill. Plus, I don’t follow Twitter hardly at all. If I did follow Twitter more, I am sure there would be many people on all sides that I would have more of a difficulty liking.

Mark Hamill was my first crush. I was 7 when I saw Star Wars and I just loved him up until I was 13 when I saw Return of the Jedi. When I was 19 I worked on a movie he was in and I was able to have a great conversation with him on set. It was a dream come true for me. I've since met a ton of actors and celebrities working in the film industry, most of whom I'm pretty meh about, but Mark Hamill will always have a special place in my heart and Star Wars will always be my favorite movie of all time. He's such a great guy.

I'm generally opposed to remakes, but a remake of "The Odd Couple" with Hamill and Ford I would totally love to see.
Possibly, Clif Haley - with Mark as Oscar and Harrison as Felix. Hayley Atwell and Kira Knightly could portray the Pigeon sisters.

Mark Hamill is probably one of the easiest people to interview since he's so talkative and kind, while Harrison Ford is probably one of the toughest.
They were just perfect for Luke and Han.
Harrison just has a lot of social anxiety and gets incredibly nervous in interviews. Which is why you see him rubbing the armrests or fidgeting. Its a shame because he's a living legend

Mark Hamill is a natural born storyteller. Everyone should check out the national public radio versions of the original trilogy - Mark is sensational.
I chuckled at the thought that this is basically Yoda in conversation with Luke Skywalker.
Mark is the only person I could watch talk for hours and still be entertained all throughout!!

I love that Frank showed a twinge of regret at a couple of points for having known Mark for forty years without really getting to know him. This is a truism of life, and often we reach a point when the person is gone (either geographically or deceased), and it's too late to tell the person. Here, one of Mark's heroes was able to tell him. It doesn't mean they're going to go golfing every Saturday now; it's enough to acknowledge it.
I've been at the same company for 21 years and relate with this completely. We can have these people in our lives for so long but never truly know them.
When Harrison Ford is being interviewed it is painful to watch. But Mark is a delight to watch.

The mark of a great interviewer is having the humility to just meet the guest talk. No interruptions, no steering, just listening. Brilliant interview.
Mark doesn't need steering, many interviewees would because they aren't world-class storytellers and entertainers like he is.
I love how much of a story teller Mark Hamill is. So fun to listen to.

These two guys are why Yoda was a believable Jedi master, and delivered a serious, high-impact new character that drove so much of the saga. Mark Hamill had to sell the character of Yoda as much as Frank Oz did, I believe.
You can learn two things from Mr Hamill. One- be tenacious about your dreams. Two- appreciate the people in your life.
He's so complimentary. Not a negative response. We all love him for it. A lesson for all of us.
Mark Hamill is a world-class raconteur (storyteller). He is such a fascinating person, with a wealth of stories from his own rich exeperiences; but he also seems like an accessible, truly decent guy. He genuinely loves and understands his business, and everyone in it, from the name on the marquee to the union guy or girl cleaning the set. I have mad respect for him.
You want to hear a good story? Ask him about his grandchildren and how they should be aborted.

A little part of my soul will die when Mark Hamill passes away. He's such a delightful and engaging raconteur and his enthusiasm for subjects that interest him is charming and authentic. Of course, he's also a wonderful actor. I just adore this guy.

I feel like the reason Mark Hamill is so loveable is because he reacts to being an actor the same way that I would react to being an actor. Utter joy with working with Miss Piggy, Harrison and Carrie.
He doesn't take his fame for granted to this day.

Mark is so great at giving 20 minute answers to a 10 second question. LOL. He's a great orator. If possible, check out his interview with Kevin Smith on "Fatman on Batman" from a few years ago. It's about 3 hours of BLISS, as both guys obviously LOVE to talk about comics, movies and characters. Truly one of the best interviews I have ever heard (it's an audio only podcast).

27:55 The comment Mark made about wanting to know everyone’s name and what their job was when he was working on a set just shows how much of a genuinely good person he is and that he appreciates people for their part in a production or on a film set. He really is one of the rare ones! Reminds me of Keanu Reeves, a similar kindness and just general good people in both of them!

I was more enthralled with his stories about voice acting and his love of puppets (\m/ The Muppets \m/ )especially with the master sitting right next to him. I'd love to hear a lot more from both. Maybe even some stories from Oz about Jim Henson, Sesame Street,etc...

Honestly, I could listen to Mark talk for hours.
Such a fun interview! I had no idea Mark had done Broadway. I like him even more! I also loved that he was inspired by Clarence Nash (Donald Duck). I used to trick or treat in Clarence’s neighborhood... he and his sweet wife would invite us in. Clarence would perform the voice with a puppet, and his wife gave up homemade popcorn balls. Mark seems to have the same down to earth, engaging personality.
I love how Mark took a moment to thank people for coming out, tells you a lot about his perspective on fame and celebrity. True legend.

I would've like to see the movie "Amadeus" with him as Mozart. He was considered for the role, since he played him on live theater, but Milos wanted relatively unknown actors so the audience would focus on the story rather than the cast. Tom did a terrific job, for sure, but, I'm just curious.

What Mr Hamill said about the unpretentious attitude really struck me -- he is damn right. It was this attitude that made the OT stand out so much, and got lost in the prequels and sequels.
The RUclips algorithm brought me here after having watched several fan reactions of Mark's appearance as Luke in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, and I'm so grateful it did.

I saw Mark as Mozart in "Amadeus" on Broadway in 1984. He was amazing!
So did I, saw it twice! And Return of the Jedi was playing right down the street at the Loew's Astor Plaza. Happy times!!
I would have loved to see that. Amadeus and The Empire Strikes Back are my two favourite movies. I've also seen a theatre version of Amadeus and it was amazing. I can see how Mark would have been perfect for the role.

I read somehere George had changed it from Starkiller during the concept art phase. As for the other part, I wonder if it said 'The Wills' on his script page. Now, it's actually spelled the 'Whills', which is George's concept for physical manifestations of beings created by midichlorians. I wish folks would have laid off their hate, so we may have gotten some of the story of these beings. @@ThemBonesGamingFamily It was always Whills. People don't remember the original novelization of Star Wars back in 77. It gave away so much. It even said that the Emperor was originally a senator from Naboo named Palpatine.

@@commandercaptain4664 that would be very strange. From what I recall, the original idea was that the Whills were writing about all of this that happened. I heard it was related to them by Artoo, but we still don't have any proper canon for it, and the new movies make that really difficult by him being out of the action 99% of the time.

Frank asks him a simple question & Mark goes into a 20-minute story full of wit & good-natured sincerity. I'm so happy for him & his success. As a fan, I'm REALLY happy that an effort has been made to give Mark an opportunity to perform Luke Skywalker the way both he & fans want to see him & mend some of the backlash created by the divisive sequel trilogy.
Thats the passion that jon favreau seems to have tried to capture with the mandlorian.. love mark hamill..the passion..the side tracked stories..perfect! so glad that jon favreau is trying to give the fans something that we can all love again after the proper star wars ended. Frank oz is also a legend :D

I love Mark Hamill, not only is he great, but goddamn that man can talk, Frank Oz asks “what part about being a voice artist most people don’t know”, by the end of Mark talking it’s nowhere near the question Frank asked, but you get amazing stories nonetheless. He’s just a talker, I’m the same way so it makes me feel better that he’s like that
