I do really like the adjustable setup on your trailer had I seen it earlier I would have copied it... Thanks again for your insight.

This is an excellent video! I am new at sailboat trailering and have learned so much for your vast experience! Can’t wait to try some of your awesome techniques. I own a RL24 and hope to sail next season 😀

I’m sorry, when I pulled my boat for the winter, I had planned to video every bit of it but, with other boats being pulled at the same time with issues I forgot to get the camera out of the tow vehicle.

Thanks, Jerry! Super tips! I'm working on how to self-launch a narrow 23' keelboat (draft: 3'4"). Looking forward to the follow-up trailer video. God bless! 😊

@@svwatercolors1291 Hi Jerry, No apologies necessary. At the ramp, you always have to be prepared for chaos, either from others, from yourself, or from both. HAPPY and SAFE HOLIDAYS !!!

Hah!!! Yup, Great information for newbies... .. .one year, and the boat still hasn't seen any water but what falls from the sky? Laughing at the bow picking up. Mine did the same, the entire boat on its front edge. Luckily I can weld and razed the harness and gears up. I can now push the boat back on the trailer about 6in and lean the trailer end to the ground so I can keep her dry..(water emits out a custom plug in the rear), while parked under my Oak tree. It's a Nordica 16.
My 6cyl Nessan doesn't really get bothered by her weight.

After years of watching untold numbers of boaters attempt to drag their boats out of the water with the trailer’s winch and bow eye or use the motor to “run up” or “push up” onto the trailer. Thank you!

Over the years, I have jumped on many boats to stand at the stern hanging out over the motor to sink the stern because the winch is not leveraged enough to slide the hull up the trailer because the tow vehicle can not go any deeper into the water.

Do you think putting one of those hitches that lowers the ball several inches on the tow vehicle, just for retrieval purposes, would lower the tongue of the trailer enough to get up under the bow?

    • @svwatercolors1291

Yes, any lowering of the trailer’s tongue will help in leveling the trailer on the angled ramp. The trailer’s axle is the pivoting point on raising the back end of the trailer, because this distance is so short, a 3 inch drop at the hitch may only raise the back end a 1/4 of an inch. If your boat is not on the trailer, do the measurements, before spending the money on another receiver.

@@svwatercolors1291 With a lower ball mount, you might scrape the bottom of the trailer at the top of the ramp where the flat parking lot transitions to the ramp. With my tongue extension out, and a 18.5" ball height, my trailer scrapes at my favorite ramp. Totally depends on the ramp grade/transition, but something to think of.
Love the video. I'm fitting generic trailer to my C22WK right now and want to add a bow roller. Wish I saw this before I rebuilt the chock above and below the bow eye. D'oh!

@@soapbox94 You’re right about the angle height created going from parking lot to launch ramp. I need to add, and recommend some safety chains on the extension because I’ve witnessed an extension become unhooked at this ramp transition point, the boat and trailer rolling back down the ramp. The lower the hitch height at ramp helps in loading the hull because you reduce the ramp angle and the height the stern has to drop onto the trailer when pulled from the water.
