  • My DemoReel for 2019. More info: www.andvfx.com
    First of all, thanks to all the incredible artists that made this possible. It’s always a huge team effort to bring this projects to live, and this will not be possible without modelers, generalists, lighters, animators, compositors, coordinators, supervisors, pipeline, art directors, robots specialists, programmers, and a long etcetera. And obviously all my FX colleagues, I’m lucky to work with the best artists from all around the world.
    On this reel, I wanted showcase what I have been doing lately and during the past 7 years, VFX, mappings, multimedia shows and interactive installations. It’s not the typical FX Demoreel, but it’s what I do.
    I tried to describe as best as I could my roles on each shot/show, but as you all know there are shared jobs where other artists could be involved.
    On my day to day I use 3dsmax, Storm Granular Solver, Razor, Thinking Particles, Thinkbox suit, Flowline, FumeFx, and other scripts.
    If you have questions, make sure to visit effectivetds.c...
    I’m there trying to help people with technical problems.

    Amazing reel. Can i request a video. Could you go through your reel and briefly talk about how you approached the task and what challenges there were etc, maybe what tools you used. I know there are things you might not be able to talk about but I'd love you to talk briefly about your work to give us some insight into highend FX work.

      Hi, yes, it can be difficult to get permissions to showcase some behind the scenes. Here I talk about one of the shots in the reel during Siggraph: vimeo.com/355537392 (23:00)

  • @AyushBakshi

    Damn!.. How much time does it take to: think → make → getting shot approved from higher ups? Minus the time it takes for simulation process... (I mean that simulate, cache to disk.. those 'waiting stuff' things by the words 'simulation process').
    Would love to know what tools contributed to what elements (don't get me wrong.. I know tools are nothing without skills)

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  5 лет назад

      Is a case by case scenario. I get shots approved in 1 go, I have other shoots with over 300 versions. In total we use a lot of different software depending the department as well. In my case in the FX you see on this video is 3dsmax + Storm + Razor + Thinking Particles + flowline + fumefx + krakatoa, frost as the most used.

    Amazing Reel ,congrats , i have a question , how do make the trees simulation, most of tutorials are about destruction buildings ( solid geo) i never seem 1 tutorial about trees, leafs simulation at all . i remember form the movie 2012 that limousine scene a lot of palm trees and foliage sims, can you try to explains a litte bit the process, thanks very mutch.

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  5 лет назад

      The same guy that worked on that 2012 limousine scene created a complete tutorial in doing trees. Xd: effectivetds.com/resources/fx-education/treerigging-with-tp6/
      If I have a far away shot, I just get the branches, breaking them, jointing them, then adding the leaves attached in top and releasing over time. For closeup shots you will skinwrap your branches to the "bone" structure of your tree.

    Well done! Nice to see 3ds Max still in great VFX szenes! ...has Scaneline still their 3DS Max pipeline? Is all that water sim done in max or with Scanlines in house simulation tools? ...and the debris/snow is all done in thinking particles right?

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  5 лет назад

      yes, we use almost every program available, but in fx 3dsmax is still the key component. Water is done in Flowline running inside 3dsmax. Debris is Thinking Particles. Snow is Storm granular solver.

      At home I have a laptop, MSI GP62. I only updated the ram to 32gb. At work I just get an update 1 week ago, to a dual Xeon 56 threads and a P4000 quadro.

    • @3DSgeek
      @3DSgeek 5 лет назад +2

      @@andvfx wow they really dont give you the most powerful hardware at work. Would of been great if they could of given you an RTX card instead of a p4000.

    • @ExacoMvm
      @ExacoMvm 5 лет назад

      @@3DSgeek Yeah, the P4000 is even quite old and probs worse than e.g. 980Ti atleast based on specs/bench ( that goes for like $150-250 used ), probs they use the cards only for viewport, even the dual Xeon is questionable ( could be newer ones that costs thousands and is fkn insane or pretty old that goes on ebay for sub $200 ), probably single $1000 threadripper or ~$500 Ryzen 9 surpass them. Also with the MSI GP62 i probs would not be able to lookdev/render a proper simple product render not even talking about something like filling liquid into a cup sim.. That's just insane how someone manages to do such work with such mediocore setup. Probs that's the definition of highly skilled VFX TD to do nearly anything on any computer.

    • @andvfx
      @andvfx  5 лет назад +1

      To be fair, we have as well a 3000 computers render farm. But usually I sim everything locally. I never feel I had a limited hardware, even with my old computer, nowadays you can do anything with a 500$ laptop, I guess that start doing FX with a 128mb ram computer you learn how to optimize things.

    • @andvfx

      We use almost every program available, and artists here learn and adapt to whatever its best for the job, so if you are good, doesnt matter if you use Houdini or paint3d.
