I honestly use these student reels so I have an idea of where "the bar" is in terms of skills. I'm not exactly there just yet but it motivates me to push further
Gnomon as a bar, at least for me equals absolute depression. It's the school I applied to only to be told "We only accept International and local students in California." Do not, I repeat, Do not go to The Art Institutes.
@@Samota0 Funny thing you mention The Art Institutes... I'm a student there but I definitely see why it's so shit. Most of the time I'm teaching myself industry level things (like what I said in my comment) and work tirelessly. It was the biggest mistake I'll ever make but it won't be the end of me. Hey, @LumenLumen. Just wanted to make sure that you knew that we can only accept international and Californian students for our Online classes, but you're more than welcome to apply to study at our main campus in Hollywood, California!
I'm an absolute beginner in 3D who can luckily afford to go to an animation/vfx institute in my country, but Gnomon is always light years ahead! This inspires me so much and also puts me in my place. 😂 I hope to make enough money in the future to go there haha.
Everyone watching these videos, you better work hard if you want to get in into this school. Also, it doesn't end there once you're in, because you'll obviously have to keep improving your skills. Therefore, your mindset and actions will be major factor for your future successes.
I see very bright futures ahead, I’m trying to self teach 3D Modeling, Animation, Scripting, Rigging... It will take me much longer but I really hope I can one day produce something even half as good as one of these graduates...
respect!I just graduated from school last year. I tried my best to be the best in school. then when I watched this I will think'well, let's go back to school again'.....
i've been wanting to go here for about two years now but its just so expensive (especially because im not from usa) :( i'll be graduating high school this year and im planning on getting an art & design degree in a local university first whilst trying to work on my 3D portfolio (so that i can get a scholarship!), hopefully in 4 or 5 years from now i'll be able to attend gnomon!
Honestly, with the plethora of information available today, you don't need an expensive art school to learn anything of what they have achieved. These folks created amazing work simply because they worked hard, not because they through a fancy school a bunch of money. :)
Astonishing work as always, but I think you know it too ;) Do students need to be experienced with 3D software prior to applying or do they only need traditional drawing skills. In other words, do people coming into Gnomon already have 3D edication experience or can they enroll straight out of highschool, because what they do is obviously really good. What would be an average age of the students applying here?
Some students have 3D experience, but to apply, we look for a solid foundation in traditional art skills (www.gnomon.edu/admissions/domestic-students/portfolio/digital-production-bfa)--so yes, students can apply right of out high school. Age ranges tend to vary program to program though.
U can complain all u want or cry how much u want no one's gonna share it sucks but it's the fact stop complaining go find RUclips channels and learn from there there are many good artist at there go give the time nothing's gonna happen if u complaint
You can find more about our scholarship opportunities here (www.gnomon.edu/admissions/domestic-students/scholarships), but your best bet will be to talk to one of our admissions advisors to learn more (www.gnomon.edu/admissions/make-an-appointment)
Well, this is a layered question i guess, however take all that follows with a grain of salt since i am a student. 3d Animation is everything, where a 3 dimensional object is animated. So basically everything from the sheep from Wallace and Gromit to the Spaceship in Independence Day 2 is 3d Animation. The real distinction lines are between realtime and offline rendering, or full cg(computer generated) and vfx, which is in most cases a Hybrid between compositing(basically photoshop for movies), real life footage and high quality 3d work, even though this term is also used for effects work in games. As a basic parameter to which you can assign which is, at the current time some tasks are just to performance heavy to have it in a realtime application. If something has lots of simulations ( Smoke, water, cloth, explosions, rbds) it is most likely offline rendering, since simulations are something you usually cut in a game/realtime context to get more performance. Same with high Polygon density. If something has a dense Main Mesh, it is made for offline. This is the easy part, it is harder to draw a line between vfx and full cg, even though there obviously is one. If there is at least one real world object or subject in the movie, it is vfx, this is how I would separate it, though, i am not really happy with that last part.
I don't think so. I am a former active-duty Marine and went to Gnomon. Build that discipline and first in the Army then go to Gnomon after your contract.

Emotion 😳👏🏻 that’s what you have to feel when you watch a reel..and I felt it !! congratulations to all
I used to watch these reels when I was just an infant in this field. but now I am glad, I can make these, in fact at some point, I can do even better.
My favorite artworks are the ones copied from movies or TV. It shows that even you can accomplish these amazing shots you see on the big screen.
This is the most aesthetic video I've ever seen. I take my hat in deepest admiration. For every single artist and the editor. Chapeau!
Each of these sequences screams for a life with plenty of fulfillment - great job can't wait to see more from each of the students.
