I love this. When I watch teachers like Ritsuko Nakata, I am reminded what actual professional language teaching is , and how it is so unlike what passes for such in Japan's state schools. It is my bugbear in the English classroom here in Japan, whether at Junior High School (JHS) or at primary school, that articles are considered "de trop", and dropped by the wayside at every turn. In JHS textbooks, phrases which always begin with the definite article are not learned as a set , like "the same". The vocabulary item is learned on the flashcard as "same". Why bother with a pesky article? Nowadays, since the Japanese Homeroom Teacher (HRT) has been required to take over elementary school English lessons with the "help" of a very poorly thought-out textbook from MEXT, the only age level for which I have complete control over what is taught is pre-school. I never teach a singular countable noun without the indefinite article. And the children have no trouble with it, even the "an" which always comes first, as I teach vowel cards first. They just say it and remember it! Teaching young children is like a breath of fresh air!

How to make all the students practice well when there are over 40 people in a big classroom?
