@@IrishluckLinux Yes, I noticed it. But there is still a lot of information in these videos such as integration of special fonts etc thats missing in those videos. In my journey, I need to master those then I will move to i3blocks. One question if you dont mind, I like the manual way I can place windows in i3. Is it doable in DWM? what is your daily driver? I like that you go into details in your videos.
your tutorial is amazing, only thing is there a way to type in nano or vim the "special character" (say drupal) without having to copy paste it? i can't seem to be able to paste it in any of those two...
+The Aftermath If you are using Arch. these icons are in the AUR and you don't have to do anything after. Just type in ttf-font-awesome. It should work after that.
***** Wait, where do you type ttf-font-awesome? I just installed it from the AUR and my terminal shows the icons properly (instead of boxes) but the conky bar still shows boxes. I didn't download/copy the font to /usr/share/fonts because I thought installing it from the AUR would take care of that but it didn't (so what's the point of installing it from the AUR?).
***** I changed it to "font pango:Cousine, Awesome 9" instead of "font xft:Cousine, Awesome 9" in i3 config and it works, although I don't know why I couldn't get it to work with xft.
yea, it works in termite, but i don't wanna use termite, since it cannot be transparent without a composite manager, and when i use those, i get tearing on my videos. smh
You have to make sure you're in the right directory... If you're having trouble with that maybe i3 isn't the best WM for you. No offense but. Take some time and use Gnome or KDE and learn more about the linux file structure and practice navigating your computer and programs from strictly the CLI. Once you get comfortable keep challenging yourself. Don't throw yourself to the wolves right off the bat.
This video is still valid. Thanks. Great explanation.
Glad you liked it. Most of my videos are still viable. I did another i3 config video where I go from vanilla to what I ran.

You saved me, thank you so much
Glad I could help

It's not a bug that the workspace '1' doesn't disappear, your shortcut simply moved to a new workspace and you never closed the old one

James Goodman It should automatically put that in there for you. Try to reboot to see if that will help.

James Goodman I don't know. I'm glad you got it to work. Now you get to enjoy it.
Sanal K Joy my primary distro is Arch but for these videos I use Mint.
On arch I just get empty boxes when I try the icons. Do you have to set a specific locale or something?
The Aftermath I have updated the description on what to put into the Configuration file.
A note, you need to install with a Typography Visor of Fonts and install first
doesn't work for me, i can't copy the icon in vim even tho i have the font installed
chopcooey OK if you are getting a tiny box then it's there. What terminal you using?
i am using urxvt, when i paste in vim, i get something like this: \uf042
directly in the terminal i get a question mark
in gedit i get the icon
i also get the same thing in the other terminals ive tried, xterm, terminator
chopcooey I get the same. You can try termite and it should show the icon.

Which distro do you use...
when i try to access gedit for i3 config, its empty
+Melledonous copy paste gedit ~/.i3/config
I get the same as well but not sure how to fix it
Guys I literally gave you the fix

***** make sure you change your dmenu setting in the config file to this: bindsym $mod+d exec --no-startup-id dmenu_run
