Was pointed to Issue 6 of wildlife and it was great. So much so that I want to see them all. Watched Issue 1 today. Keep up the fantastic work, Andy - very useful tips. And all for free. Makes me want to repay you by seeing if I can come on paid for workshop once the restrictions on travel are lifted.
Hi Neil and welcome. Thanks for the support. We are loving doing it. As for repaying me well we have paid webinars that may be of interest - coming soon!!!
@@Wildmanrouse OK. The paid webinars will be of interest, dependng of course on my availability to "attend". Currently I am one of the "lucky ones" that can work from home. Will details appear on your RUclips channel?- I have subscribed today. There seems to be loads of interesting stuff on there.
Your Wild Angle videos are becoming our weekend entertainment! They're great Andy, informative and, importantly, fun. You've inspired me to capture Wrens, now for Bees!
Excellent images of the bee flies etc. I use a PL 100 - 400mm on ProCapture Hi for mine. I use a shutter speed of 1/3200 at f11 with auto ISO for butterflies in flight, but those settings do require really bright light for low ISO.
Andy, this is just great, I have been doing similar, I must admit it didn't occur to me to use the 300mm withe tubes - I will now!! Last year, I used the 300mm with the MC14. This year I have had some success using the 40-150 with the MC20, that makes a fantastic flexible 600mm "macro" lens - certainly worth a try - also works well with MC 14 but of course higher magnification with MC20.
Jonathan Ashton as you know Jon I hate all 2x converters. And this episode isn’t really macro as I can’t do that, it’s more like close up shooting with a big lens!!!
@@Wildmanrouse Andy you must try the MC20, your initial experience will confirm your existing bias against it, but work it - trust me (I was a scientist!!!) just work it and you will be completely amazed. Focus bump and single point focus ...wtg!!!
Thanks for another great video, educational and entertaining in equal measure 😁 Really enjoying the series and seeing all your images. Extension tubes now ordered to go with my 300mm. 👍
Thank you Andy, some great advice, i was doing the bee shots at the weekend but with a macro. Will have to give your method a try. All the best and keep safe.
Hi Andy, great video and tips you shared with us. Thanks! I have been following you since the 80s from your articles and photos in Practical Photography.
You have such a positive outlook on life Andy, even in Lockdown Mode! Great work. Must dash - off to photograph some bees. Aren’t they just amazing little critters! John
Another great episode, thank you. Just been to flash the cash for some tubes to find they are out of stock in most places. I now blame you for me not being able to do some bee close ups! Keep Safe
Andy, thank you for your video series ! You managed to do two thinge at once, make me laugh loudly and teach me a lot,. Hope to meet you next time at GDT festival in Lünen when this insanity will be SOON over. Thank you as much as possible Robert
Hi Andy Very interesting adding an extension ring to a Telephoto lens. Tried it out in garden no bees as its mid-day, but great for getting a macro effect on a zoom lens. In the past I have often wanted this facility and resorted to changing to a macro lens. But this seems to give a good zoom ratio and reasonable macro. Will try tomorrow with Pro Capture. As usual a great video. Geoff Clinton
You created a new genre macro-wildlife photography:-)) like intimate landscape maybe we should call it intimate-wildlife photography:-)) you put a smile on my face
Hi Andy, greetings from Queensland, Australia. I "stumbled" on your feed and love it. Thank you for such interesting information. Your bee captures are exquisite. I'm interested to know which extension tubes you are using? I currently have the 40-150 and EM1mk2. I am struggling a bit with birds in flight not being in focus. Anyway, I look forward watching all your other videos whilst in isolation. Cheers :D
HI Karen don't do this, you will compromise AF performance, lose two stops of shutter speed, lose a lot of depth of field etc. That's why I put my recommendation as it's the best one for this kind of photography to get the best results. It works without compromise. Just trust that I know what I am doing and am giving you the best advice.
Great video and info. Any chance of a video on photographing the swallows/house martins? I have, hopefully, house martins breeding here and would love to get photos of them coming and going to the nest which is above my front door.
Perhaps Kerry except that I don't have any nesting here and cannot leave the farm etc due to lockdown, apologies. It's very very tough anyway as you need to get them just s they land. This is usually in the dark so you need flash which I absolutely HATE and will not use. Apologies
@@Wildmanrouse Thanks for your response Andy. The house martin nests at my place are on a bright wall (painted cream) and in good light. I agree about the flash.
Andy ... just binged all six episodes ... so informative and entertaining and thats from a 'gooner' ! Tech question .. which extension tube did you use 10mm or 16mm (or both) . Final bone to pick i have your polar bear on top of the world on canvas bought a few years ago now but now you've gone and done it with setting sun and a youngster >>> damn you ! Last point ive just paused and noticed those birds on the giraffe neck in your intro sequence .... is that usual behaviour ? Cheers and really looking forward to the next episode..... thanks for sharing your knowledge
Hey Tony, first glad you have the original bear image, I had that one hanging on the wall now it's the new one! I used the 10mm with the 300 as I found it was easiest to use with focus etc. Yep oxpeckers are always near giraffes as they have a co-operative relationship with giraffes as they eat ticks etc that annoy the giraffes. And glad you enjoyed, just edited the next one, it's very different.
Hi Andy, you are obviously a fantastic wildlife photographer. And i really just found you by accident lol,but i am so glad i did.I have now subscribed and look forward to your future videos, and did you photograph any of those swallows in the background of your video ? haha..

Brilliant video Andy. Why use a zoom and extension tube rather than a macro lens? Cheers Mike
Hi mike simply to stay further away from shy species, to give a different effect and to make use of the best stabilisation

Hi Andy what is the make of the extension tube used .
Kenko - amzn.to/3bw39Bp
Done it again! Thanks very much for an informative and entertaining video. On extenders, does the Olympus 1.4x have the requirements you mentioned?
yeah the 1.4x is a truly superb piece of kit
Are you using Pro cap Low or High ?
High most of the time
This I’m sure is a question I think I already know the answer to but the extension tube, is that different to the 1.4 teleconverter?
Yeah Louise see the difference in the video. The teleconverter extends the range, the extension tubes allow you to focus closer.
Love the shades Andy. Brand?
dodgy el cheapo
@@Wildmanrouse 😎
nice one Andy, does the size of the tube make a big difference?
Yes it does mate as the bigger the tube the closer the focus but the less is sharp
@@Wildmanrouse great thanks mate! as soon as the sun returns I will get on it! thanks again
