Best airlock removal tip.... Don't fill up at 4.30pm on a Friday if avoidable. Glad it's not just us... Sometimes I find, bite the bullet, drain down the loft pipework and fit a few strategic AAVs. Doesn't always work but has got me out the house before midnight. Love your vids, hate airlocks!
Great vid mate, always love watching. Can you confirm the issue? I under stand the airlock but you also mentioned end radiator flow side valve was closed or something? I also think you may have some split ends ...no offence...
up until recently my own house had combined f+e and was a pain to remove air locks.I had to close zone so just heating and back fill from garden hose on a drain off never worked first time.its great when you sort it though
I’ve had success in the past converting to a pressurised system. But when you’re trying to clear air locks you always think that you’ll get it sorted any minute, never expect to be there for hours. Modern erp pumps don’t help either, definitely a good idea changing to an older fixed speed one.
Loving the camera setting change to 60 frames per second content on YT looks so good with this setting. Hats of for getting this sorted and for the wig lol Thumbs up and a comment for the algorithms.
We used to get gravity fed hot water air lock to bath. We used to mains cold water into hot water tap at sink to over come the air lock. Tge hot water would then flow to the down stairs bathroom again. Well done to get that air lock sorted. What a relief for both of yours. Steve
I went to a job that another guy had been to 5 tines to clear a hot water airlock , he had cleared it each time but never fixed the problem. The vent was piped up incorrectly, I repiped it and never went back .
Convert to sealed system. No more airlocks. Can use the mains to push them out and then drop pressure back to 1 bar if needed. No pumping over either, less chance of sludge
Couldn't get a gravity system to refill. Header tank full. Nothing coming through any of the radiators. So I back fill the system via the kitchen rad. Using the washing machine inlet hose. You have to take care though. Did it slowly, so water didn't start gushing out of the overflow! Bled the radiators in turn. Pressurized water, pushed the air through, and the system was back to normal! But I spent a couple of hours trying to fill the system conventionally, before I came up with this idea!
A good little tip (if you have good pump valves) is to change pump direction, might have to do it back and forth a few times but can help clear the most stubborn air locks. That job looked a beast, not much height between pump and header tank and long horizontal runs. But also drawing off water from a rad like you were doing can help move things along. It’s also the job you will dread going back to change anything in the future
Garden hose on the Drain Point works every time!! OR As long as the CF from the F&E tank is not blocked(check with a magnet), make a connection with a couple of flexis, between the tap connector at the float valve(ball Cock) & the tank connector in the F&E tank & blast it from there. Remember; if there’s no air or water coming out a radiator bleed valve there’s no water getting to the radiator! In my 46 year career at this game I’ve cleared 1,000s of air locks, there’s a point on every job where you think; ‘I’m never going to get this CH working’. But you will, you only need to get rid of the air for the water to circulate 👍👍👍
I have a job with the same issue to sort out today, it’s the 2nd time in 3 months it’s happened, drained it down in the summer for some repairs and it’s been a shit bag since! Added 2 aav air cupboard but ultimately it probably needed air vents on the long horizontal runs where I can’t get to! Pump is strong but valves are shot, I had a problem on another property 3 years back now which took 2 days to shift 🥴
Connect the hose as you did to the radiator, but put it onto mains cold open the tap and try to push the air out the other way is one way that can work also.
One of first things I would do is put hose on each rad and run them through till not more air.. especially if on drops and if gravity system.. it needs the full bore gush to get the air out.
What a mare!!! (The job not the blonde). Do you have or have you used a thoroughflush machine at all? Contemplating getting one and at £350 not a bad investment from what I’ve seen. Wondered if it may have been useful on this job 🤷♂️
I normally remove a small rad, bathroom for example. Then connect a cold feed hose on. Connect my drain down hose to the petcock near the boiler and keep it fired on max. Usually works for me. 👍
Pushing mains cold water up the drain off point, with someone at the tank in loft, they should see bubbles from tank out put pipe, then tank start to fill with water. That will hopefully clear the air lock.
Airlocks are one of the worst things for us heating engineers! My trick is I use an old pump head that's still in good nick, put a fly lead on it and swap the heads over on the pumps that's on the system, let it run with the bleed vent open and a rubble sack or bucket or something underneath it to catch the water. I find it bubbles loads untill eventually you get a steady drip of water coming through. I've posted it on my Instagram page if you or anyone is interested to see what I mean 👍🏽 instagram.com/p/CC6Ei-dpR94/?igshid=iiaayj72g45u
Someone's already said it, convert to sealed pressurised system, obviously you've got to weight out condition of the system not sure if Res would be happy to sigh a disclaimer stating you wouldn't be liable should the pipework burst but as long as you keep it around 1bar on the large system like this it would really speed things up obviously upgrade manual vents to decent AAVs some x100 couple of hours and you're out.
Had a bad airlock this week, but not as bad as this! I just keep turning pump/valves on and off, bleeding pump, bleeding rads and hoping for the best 👍🏻
I’ve removed air locks by removing and reversing the pump temporarily and shifting it in reverse .. but obviously prevention is better than cure always .... Rick
Hate airlocks. When I have dealt with them, normally on an open vent system. I put a screw in drain off on the farthest rad downstairs and get the boiler and pump running. Then pull it through each leg at a time. Don’t like auto airvents as they fail and cause damage.
I’m not saying this is a good idea or that I would have ever resorted to it myself. A small blob of washing up liquid introduced into the system, when it hits the pump - airlocks all clear. There’s a technical explanation for this that I won’t bore you with.
Keith lemon. Now I saw you in that wig that's who you remind me of... lol. That was bugging me. Even talk the same. 😂😂. Well done on that airlock though. Had some b*****ds over the years and by myself too clambering up loft, back down then up...etc. horrid!! Ended up putting onto mains pressure a few times with a vessel.
thanks for watching guys .. the road to 10k subscribers is on!! SUBSCRIBE NOW or your next job will leak

Yeh the problem was with the flow in a new extension. We sucked it through and circulation began.

Didn’t know Sharon Mitchell was a plumber, 👍🏻love your videos from 🇮🇪
PHIWWWWLLL
i find removing the pump and connecting a power flush machine helps some times. great video glad you got to the bottom of it
Cheers mate
Agreed. 😁
Beat me to it Michael. Especially on a large property like this. Probably a few hours then 👍
I had issues on a sealed system with rads not heating up at far end of large house. Upgrading circulator to 25-80 180 sorted it.
🙋♀️ Good video again !! 💪🏻
Cheers jan
Awesome video
When you close the hot radiators do you close the TRV and the locksheilds' 🤔
Cheers Stu .. just one side is enough. Just need to stop circulation
Great video mate, Airlocks are a NIGHTMARE!!!!!.....But SO satisfying when you sort them out

Cheers Steve I’ve not had a hot water air lock in a long time. I used to carry one of the old style shower hoses that attached to both taps loo

Nightmare mate. Can you combine feed and expansion maybe?

I like it
Was the vent and feed connection connected before the pump ?? It should be otherwise it will pump over and heat up the expansion tank
No it’s was after the pump that’s why it was heating up
@@ParkesPlumbing has it been altered now ??
@@dennisphoenix1 not as far as I know
@@ParkesPlumbing that needs doing otherwise you can't develop any pressure in the system on the pump outlet hence your airlock
@@dennisphoenix1 there’s a lot that needs rectifying there bud .. I’ll let the guy who’s job it was know
Pushing mains cold water up the drain off point, with someone at the tank in loft, they should see bubbles from tank out put pipe, then tank start to fill with water. That will hopefully clear the air lock.
Popular one is the mains push
At least you kept your word! 😁
Never break it
Stick a hose pipe on the drain off, it’ll soon clear an airlock, just make sure it’s a good connection to the header tank overflow
Done that before!
Looking like some 1980’s Rock God !!l😀👍🏻
Would it of been better to make it a sealed system?
Fair play lad... Want you in some high heels though 😂👠😂
Might bring me to 5 foot 8

That's if the pump valves are ok though....

A lot to be said for converting to a sealed system. Absolute nightmare when you get a bad air lock. Feel your pain mate..
We probably would have if it would have gone on any longer ha
Convert it to a pressurised system, remove F and E tank and fit an expansion vessel, then mains flush the system. BINGO.
Yep that would do it
Had a bad airlock this week, but not as bad as this! I just keep turning pump/valves on and off, bleeding pump, bleeding rads and hoping for the best 👍🏻
Sometimes the best thing for it is turn it all off and let it bubble

Good way
My tip & practice would’ve been to pressurise it.
Agree

Oh kinda disappointed, I was kinda expecting Tracy to go and sort out the airlock on the Worcester. Maybe next time hey? 😊👍
She’s at the caravan
with ridiculous horizontal runs, isolate boiler, mains feed it from below straight to the tank, drag it thru from offending rad/s
Absolute babe 😍

Works better if its fairy liquid.
Well done for persevering.👍 Mind you in 2 days you could have drained down and replumbed that whole shit show in the loft(s).😉🤣
I'm beginning to wonder... lol
👍👍

back fill mains
That waxms meant to be convert
The blonde is a cheeky one she is.

Sometimes i reserve the pump direction to get rid of an airlock, it did the trick couple times, other times have blockage unfortunately.
