    Best airlock removal tip.... Don't fill up at 4.30pm on a Friday if avoidable. Glad it's not just us... Sometimes I find, bite the bullet, drain down the loft pipework and fit a few strategic AAVs. Doesn't always work but has got me out the house before midnight. Love your vids, hate airlocks!

    Great vid mate, always love watching. Can you confirm the issue? I under stand the airlock but you also mentioned end radiator flow side valve was closed or something? I also think you may have some split ends ...no offence...

      Yeh the problem was with the flow in a new extension. We sucked it through and circulation began.

    I’ve had success in the past converting to a pressurised system. But when you’re trying to clear air locks you always think that you’ll get it sorted any minute, never expect to be there for hours. Modern erp pumps don’t help either, definitely a good idea changing to an older fixed speed one.

    We used to get gravity fed hot water air lock to bath. We used to mains cold water into hot water tap at sink to over come the air lock. Tge hot water would then flow to the down stairs bathroom again. Well done to get that air lock sorted. What a relief for both of yours. Steve

    Convert to sealed system. No more airlocks. Can use the mains to push them out and then drop pressure back to 1 bar if needed. No pumping over either, less chance of sludge

  • @kevind7150
    @kevind7150 3 года назад +1

    Couldn't get a gravity system to refill. Header tank full. Nothing coming through any of the radiators. So I back fill the system via the kitchen rad. Using the washing machine inlet hose. You have to take care though. Did it slowly, so water didn't start gushing out of the overflow! Bled the radiators in turn. Pressurized water, pushed the air through, and the system was back to normal! But I spent a couple of hours trying to fill the system conventionally, before I came up with this idea!

  • @richard8303

    A good little tip (if you have good pump valves) is to change pump direction, might have to do it back and forth a few times but can help clear the most stubborn air locks.
    That job looked a beast, not much height between pump and header tank and long horizontal runs. But also drawing off water from a rad like you were doing can help move things along. It’s also the job you will dread going back to change anything in the future

  • @TheDickPuller
    @TheDickPuller 3 года назад +5

    Garden hose on the Drain Point works every time!!
    OR As long as the CF from the F&E tank is not blocked(check with a magnet), make a connection with a couple of flexis, between the tap connector at the float valve(ball Cock) & the tank connector in the F&E tank & blast it from there.
    Remember; if there’s no air or water coming out a radiator bleed valve there’s no water getting to the radiator!
    In my 46 year career at this game I’ve cleared 1,000s of air locks, there’s a point on every job where you think; ‘I’m never going to get this CH working’. But you will, you only need to get rid of the air for the water to circulate 👍👍👍

    I have a job with the same issue to sort out today, it’s the 2nd time in 3 months it’s happened, drained it down in the summer for some repairs and it’s been a shit bag since! Added 2 aav air cupboard but ultimately it probably needed air vents on the long horizontal runs where I can’t get to! Pump is strong but valves are shot, I had a problem on another property 3 years back now which took 2 days to shift 🥴

  • @qmob0121
    @qmob0121 3 года назад +1

    Connect the hose as you did to the radiator, but put it onto mains cold open the tap and try to push the air out the other way is one way that can work also.

  • @brendanfisher2528
    @brendanfisher2528 3 года назад +2

    One of first things I would do is put hose on each rad and run them through till not more air.. especially if on drops and if gravity system.. it needs the full bore gush to get the air out.

    What a mare!!! (The job not the blonde).
    Do you have or have you used a thoroughflush machine at all? Contemplating getting one and at £350 not a bad investment from what I’ve seen. Wondered if it may have been useful on this job 🤷‍♂️

  • @rayc1503

    I normally remove a small rad, bathroom for example. Then connect a cold feed hose on. Connect my drain down hose to the petcock near the boiler and keep it fired on max. Usually works for me. 👍

    Pushing mains cold water up the drain off point, with someone at the tank in loft, they should see bubbles from tank out put pipe, then tank start to fill with water. That will hopefully clear the air lock.

    Airlocks are one of the worst things for us heating engineers!
    My trick is I use an old pump head that's still in good nick, put a fly lead on it and swap the heads over on the pumps that's on the system, let it run with the bleed vent open and a rubble sack or bucket or something underneath it to catch the water. I find it bubbles loads untill eventually you get a steady drip of water coming through.
    I've posted it on my Instagram page if you or anyone is interested to see what I mean 👍🏽

    Someone's already said it, convert to sealed pressurised system, obviously you've got to weight out condition of the system not sure if Res would be happy to sigh a disclaimer stating you wouldn't be liable should the pipework burst but as long as you keep it around 1bar on the large system like this it would really speed things up obviously upgrade manual vents to decent AAVs some x100 couple of hours and you're out.

    Hate airlocks. When I have dealt with them, normally on an open vent system. I put a screw in drain off on the farthest rad downstairs and get the boiler and pump running. Then pull it through each leg at a time. Don’t like auto airvents as they fail and cause damage.

  • @rayc1503

    I’m not saying this is a good idea or that I would have ever resorted to it myself.
    A small blob of washing up liquid introduced into the system, when it hits the pump - airlocks all clear.
    There’s a technical explanation for this that I won’t bore you with.
