    How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a RUclips channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
    How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

    As A former dairy farmer , I didn't like spreading fertilizer on hay ground before first crop .....2 reasons being , the ground is still soft and susceptible to compaction and even cutting ruts .... and also A bigger reason is it makes your first cutting too brushy and not fine stemmed better quality feed 🤔 ..... timing is better right after 1st cutting is my opinion 🚜

    Have you seen any advantages to putting uan on hay ground? I got a bunch of 28 left and am going to top dress my canola and thought I'd put some on my hay.

    Great video Ryan. Quick question are they done putting up the solar panels and is it in operation? I think there is a place for solar panels but not where it takes good farm land out of production. Take care and have a great upcoming week 👍

      @dwightl5863 4 месяца назад +2

      IMHO if one takes out good farm land they should take out some golf courses as well!

    Does K move from the surface to the grass roots. On the western high plains we have up to 1000 ppm on testing. No K fertilizer here.

    Ryan, would you recommend the 7920 as a planting tractor for a beginning farmer? Also will y’all be using the 40202 soon?

    • @HowFarmsWork
      @HowFarmsWork  4 месяца назад +1

      The 7920 is a great fit for the planter. I think it keeps rows better than the 4640 did without the MFWD

    Hi Ryan when you move the combine from field to field is the combine low enough to go under stop light or do you have to go around them?

    • @dwightl5863
      @dwightl5863 4 месяца назад +3

      Very rare to have stop lights in a rural area.

    • @HowFarmsWork
      @HowFarmsWork  4 месяца назад +3

      We don't have the headache of worrying about stop lights thankfully. Nearest one is about 7 miles away

    Your P and K levels must have been very high initially if I heard correctly that no fertilizer had been applied in 4 years. I'm not familiar with your soils, but we would have little productivity .

    This is probably obvious to you but I'm not a farmer... will your smashed down tire tracks "pop back up" in a couple of days or will it be like, to quote you, be Iron Poisoning LOL ?

    • @HowFarmsWork
      @HowFarmsWork  4 месяца назад +3

      Earlier is better to spread for this reason. I did kill some on the end rows where I turned but otherwise the tracks are disappearing.
