Thank you for sharing these statistics. The growth of Godot is something to keep an eye on, but something astounding about the GMTK Game Jam statistics you've shown is that not only is the Godot Engine gaining a better ratio of developers using it, but there's MORE games being made for the GMTK Game Jam each year. So not only are they gaining a higher ratio compared to other engines, the sheer number of games being sent in, made in Godot is an eye opener for sure. Also, full respect to all developers that have participated in the GMTK Game Jam, thank you for sharing your creations.

My biggest issue with Godot is it's IDE and how difficult it is to know which script you're editing. The tabs above the edit pane are not related to the content of that pane (like every other editor and web browser in the world). The tabs change the scene in the left panel. But somebody on Reddit pointing me to the addon Script-IDE by Maran23. It's a game changer. It adds actual script tabs to Godot as well as a more useful outline window with color coded names and filters .
The Script-IDE addon is a world changer. It's a standard add on for every one of my projects now.
Yeah the Built-in IDE can be weird for some people and it lacks some QoL features. If you are still not satisfied with the IDE you can check out GDscript packages for VS Code and emacs. This is the beauty of open source my friend :D You just go to editor settings and click "external" and voila! You can just use whatever text editor that your heart desires :D

GMTK game jam stats are irrelevant as hell. Considering them, nobody uses Unreal Engine.
Well, they are still quite useful, lots of people participate there
I switched to Godot after the run-time fee... I tried to start up Unity again after hearing they dropped it, but Unity is so slow now. Slow to open and slow to compile. Godot is so fast to iterate and try code changes
Definitely Godot is a breeze, difficult to switch back to Unity after trying it hahaha

i hate godot physics and
the fact they are creating a new language like python but wont use the python which already have a big ecosystem and tools
maybe 2025 will be again like before
Your comment holds an interest to me. I would like to hear about your opinion and or experience on using Godot physics as I have seen others with the same statement.
@@Kry0000 not about physics, but I had several attempts at godot and it's just overly convoluted, and gdscript is not very intuitive, and to me it is primary reason I gave up on trying to get deeper in to it. Atm I'm writing in C using raylib and that is much more pleasant experience, and althought I have to produce many of the things that engines have already built in, and will have to learn more stuff too, the simplicity and clarity I get with it is incomparable. An I know exactly what's going on with the code.
@@MikAlexander That's a very good response in my opinion, thanks for sharing your experience. Also, thanks for responding, it's extremely understandable that there's differing trains of thought on such matters pertaining to game development. Hearing your reasoning was informative and inspiring, as we all know that some people like some things and others like other things, which is completely fine and valid. I wish you the best for your future projects using C and raylib.
