My GoDot project imports fine on this latest release, so no broken combability yet with GoDot.

I think the ultimate test in the near future is to see how fast the compiled ReDot version of the game would run, if I get some fps benefit at runtime, definitely something to consider as an engine. It's the spitted-out result that really matters at the end of the day for people who play with the executable game product.

Love how people come in from stuff like Photoshop and gimp and immediately say this is the best tool for pixel art, Pro Motion NG is the best tool, Aseprite is the most accessible(especially those who've never used one of these pixel based editors before), Graphics Gale and GrafX2 are the best tools for those who don't want to pay or compile Aseprite(GrafX2 is also the tool for those who want to use Deluxe Paint but don't have an actual Amiga and don't want to emulate an Amiga).

I respect that people can stand their ground on morals, but still find it counteractive to create a seperate version of Godot. Hope to see people dragging over any Redot changes to the main Godot branch, instead of not contributing to it at all. And vice versa I suppose.

How is the current state in godot to make the games compatible with consoles?

Do people not realize "redot" has been a fork of godot for 7 years? Just feels like after 7 years of nothing really they just using the drama to push themselves into the spotlight to get godot community to contribute to them instead . . .

this is not a valid test/comparison. shaders in Godot's editor are better/turned up more than unitys

... you can use separate groups interactions

The node order also decide the code execution order, and sometimes it does not match with the zindex you want. Zindex is usefull when you need to process a node first (the logic need to be the first), but you need to draw on top it on top of the others

I currently only know how to program in c++ and have no experience in game development or using a game engine. I was wondering is Godot a good gateway into learning game development. I wanted to start by making a simple 2D game.

use both, example: a dungeon could be built quickly by making a few prefab rooms made using gridmaps and then use copies of those rooms snapped to the grid.

Unity probably puts them to sleep much faster. That's why it leaves a bunch of gaps while godot doesn't.
