How do you man deserve total gratitude from all the fans Cape and John Paul unbelievable. Your greatness is nearly on the describable. Congratulations my wife and I wish you well and all your endeavors.
@@hydro.pl.27 Huh? That's silly, the clearest one to argue about would be 1990. The stones and the toss over are both a staple of strongman. Brian Shaw has been one of the largest and slowest competitors, yet the toss over is one of his signature events. The backpack race in 1990 where he barely beat Wilson is the one to debate on.
The refereeing in the boat lift seemed suspect. JP`s back was straight and he didn`t drop the boat any less than the French guy. I`m surprised JP got an invite after he won the title the 1st time!!!!!
@speedy692 Capes lifted the boat legally. He also explained the rules to JP and vouched for him and allowed him to continue in the competition. Capes could have sided with the referee and disqualified JP on the first lift. He didn't.
British people are weird. "On your mark. Get set. Go!" is an evenly spaced countdown like "2, 1, Go!". "On your marks and get set........Go!" is an evenly spaced countdown like "2, 1.75, go!"
They really messed up the truck pull in the first even where it seems to have been a decline and it was more a question of who can pull the rope the fastest rather than strength.
This is what it says on Wikipedia: In 1987, the WSM was not held for the only time since its inception. In that year, the first and only non-team Pure Strength competition was held, but it was not part of the WSM franchise, Pure Strength then became a 2-man team event '88 through '90 when it stopped. Additional info: Jon Pall Sigmarsson won Pure Strength '87, winning 8 of 10 events. Bill Kazmaier 2nd, Jeff Capes 3rd.
Scheduling would be my only guess. Getting those 3 to the UK to compete in Pure Strength, then home, then of course recovery time, time to retrain to top form again, and other commitments of their personal time likely ended the possibility. Hard to say. But I think we can agree that a 1980's version WSM without Jon Pall, Bill, and Jeff would have been largely pointless.
Jon Pall getting that last barrel, flexing mid way than sprinting to the finish line was unbelievable , one of a kind. RIP Viking
May he rest in peace.....great viking....JON PALL SIGMARSSON. Exceptional athlete and excellent rival
At 45:03 you can hear Jon Pall saying "Perkele", the famous finnish swearword and the finns laughing and clapping right after

My favourite WSM - "Jon Pall Sigmarsson".
The legends compete 💪. Missing Bill tho 😎..
This intro music is so good. I love it.

@@benmarshall404 what a banger. Thanks
@@benmarshall404 Dude, thank you so much. Been trying to find the intro song forever.
@@inlimboed91 You’re welcome mate. Think it’s the album or the 12” single version
The way they kept treating Jon Pall during the deadlift event was ridiculous.
What do you mean?
@@lsant3508 they were scrutinizing him way too harshly.
@@russwhaley2618 true
I think it was fair to ask him not to bounce the weight. Before the pull Jan pushed down aggressively and used the recoil in the way up.
DQing him on a "light weight" was very shady
Condolences to the family og Geoff Capes today
Obrigado pela postagem
I love that they clearly edited in the "promenade des anglais" (@2:36). Now I want to hear how much he butchered the pronunciation.
Lol proemane-aid desss angleiss
This narrator is really something. " Unlike Samson, he kept his strength when he lost his hair" 🤣
Love it!
Undercover drug cop? Not after this broadcast lol
Well you know there are certain thing called wigs and dies to color your facial and body and different types of body weight you can change up to
I love jon viking screams
High Energy by Evelyn Thomas is the intro music.
When I was a kid in the 80's Markovic was a favorite at highland games events in Canada, but I never knew he was a WSM contestant.
Jon Pall had of lived he'd have won more WSM hed have the most wins in the sport he was a beast
Unfortunately no, he shouldn’t even have had the 4 he got
@@jaket2274Agreed. That 1988 competition he should’ve gotten 2nd place. It was rigged on the stones and the toss over.
And how many would've Bill won had they not banned him for 5yrs
For being to dominant.
He'd have at least 5 if not more.

I remember watching this one in high school study hall way back when.
Sigmarsson almost sliding under the 1st car in the car flip.... almost became Schwarzeneggar's stunt double by accident.

Jp's 2nd lift was exactly the same as his 1st. Capes lift before it his legs were more bent than JP's.
He did drop the boat more than the French guy. Are you mental?

Imagine Capes against Brian, Thor, Eddie or Z in the tug of war!
RIP JON PAUL taken to early
However, he will be lifting with Thor in Valhalla:)

Where is Bill? How is that possible?

42:06 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That's why he is the favorite of the fans
You can tell from the stones how most of the guys in those days had no opportunity for specialized training.

Thanks, I read that too. But that doesn’t explain why WSM fell behind.
