Geoff Capes was criminally underrated. He won his championships at older ages against Jon Pal in his prime. It's amazing how even he made it with Sigmarsson given he was 11 years older than Jon. Still the 1983 WSM should have been called "the world's second strongest" man contest. They gave Bill Kazmaier a ban for being too dominant.
RIP Geoff, I remember watching these on HITstrongman's channel and getting into strongman around 2006-7 with an old 80s Britain's Strongest Man contest which he won. Became an early favourite, like many others here no doubt. I'm sure he can rest easy with his legacy.
Despite there being no Kaz, this is a great year between the events and competitors. Tom Magee was in great shape, and Simon Wulfse had beaten both Geoff and Jon Pall in Europes. Sigmarsson was still coming into his own, but how incredible is Geoff Capes to best these guys whom really what is a second athletic career for him.
I was born in Christchurch 20 years later after this happened, it's honestly so weird seeing the city of mine that I grew up in as my hometown look intact before the Earthquakes 27 years later after this. Thanks, Thank You So Much for uploading this.
What a great event...! Thanks for uploading! I think the problem Tom Magee had in the final lorry loading was that he ran too hard in the back of the truck. At the first time he bounced off pretty strong, you can see it at 51:34 and he repeated this again. Maybe that knocked the wind out off him, the hard strikes in the chest...
This will be the one I probably refuse to watch because or how they screwed Bill. He'd be a 5, maybe 6 time champion if they didn't ban him for a number of years..
@@sleepinggiant4102 I'm not European, lmao. And that is the reason. It wasn't because he was too dominant, lol. He was a flat out prick to the officials. I wouldn't have invited him back, either.
He is basically saying Satan= devil. But he is meaning it more as a curse word in Icelandic for getting himself angry and worked up, but no one uses it today. Today we would use helvítis= hell. But we are not meaning it for biblical reasons.

I love Jon pal so much.

Tom mage’s deadlift was the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen in all these combined!! Crazy!!
1180 lbs is no joke
One of my favorite wsm's
Gotta love how no one is allowed to mention Bill (Kazmaier) at all, these events would’ve suited him incredibly well too
I've never heard of Bill Kazmaier..Who the hell is that.?

John Gamble is no slouch either. 3rd place on ‘82 and 5th here.
28:38- that’s like the only time I’ve ever seen JP come in last in an event! RIP JPS!

Kazmaier wasn't invited to this event because he was too dominant. Had he been invited he would have won again.
Because he was aggressive and abusive towards officials.

16:55 - "Viking Power!"?
I know what Kaz did but to not have him here then you can erase everything from 83 until 1990 in WSM.
Era of pointless WSM comps missing the WSM Bill Kazmaier. It was nice of them to let him come back once he was crippled with injuries..

The Swans better watch out in that lake.
