Jeff Buckley is a sacred monster, his voice is one in a billion. As a huge Jeff Buckley fan, and as a singer myself, this song is really scary. I find your work technically great! The flow legato, the passagios, the balance, the power, the range, the sound are awesome! The song itself is an elegy, it is written for not fearing death. What mostly I wanted to hear is this wild, deep, true, creepy emotion, thing it's impossible for anybody to express but Buckley himself. He is untouchable. I think "Grace" is out of this world....it can destroy any singer! It's a project itself. This young lady is brave! 4:49 is completely awesome! Great job!!
Sofia Noiti I agree. Great technical work. Buckley renders it without artifice though. The part she does at about 3.25, to me is one of the most impressive things I've ever heard someone sing (when it's Jeff singing, of course). This part here is...well...technically great. That's the thing about Jeff Buckley, anything that he sang compared to someone else's rendition is artifice-free, so authentic...Everybody pales in comparison, they all sound artificial at some point. Anyway, great rendition, for sure. I love the way she sings the part at 3.40-3.51, nice "touch".
I have to agree - she mostly (though not 100%) hits the notes, but to me she doesn't seem to really "get" the song, and Buckley's raw emotion is, quite simply, utterly lacking. It's sort of like when my dad was pointing out the differences between Linda Ronstadt's first album of standards, and Toni Tenille's, which came out about the same time. While Ronstadt's takes were technically excellent, they were lacking emotionally. Conversely, Toni Tenille's dad was a jazz singer, and she not only grew up with the songs, but understood them on a visceral level. So her renditions, also technically damned near perfect, were also far more emotionally engaging. When I listened to the albums back to back, I had to agree with my dad's assessment - Tenille's renditions were far superior to Ronstadt's, for sheer emotional breadth. The same is true in this case.
Sofia Noiti “ sacred monster” well put. i swear, no one seems to get just how creepy and dark this song is, and is supposed to be sung. i think she hits the darkness from the beginning, then makes the last part her own thing. which was the point of this video. Gabby’s voice is amazing and i hate her😉💗
Sofia! I totally agree, with you. But, the singer here is extremely good. For me it`s like covering Chris Isaak - Wicked Game ruclips.net/video/5D3Nl1GZzuw/видео.html, Elisabeth Frasers - Song To The Siren ruclips.net/video/BXHw-LyeiVc/видео.html or Going Going Gone by Robin Holcomb ruclips.net/video/ALM2SI0GZj8/видео.html, you just can´t improve something, that is perfect!
She's good, but doesn't feel the song or the music at all. More obsessed by her looks, performance, and ridiculous Céline Dion hand choreography... Disgrace
Jeff Buckley is sacred ground especially with regard to his singing. This just highlights how special his talent was. Gabriela crushed it. Much respect for honoring the original rendition while still venturing out to make it her own.
I love the cover, it's really good; but it just got me thinking what a great job Jeff actually did now that I heard a very good singer sing Grace. His damn voice was a treasure, really.
I'm such a huge Buckley fan that I once went through a 2 month phase of listening nothing but Buckley. so when I hear a cover is really hard for me to really be moved cause I immediately compare it to the original. I gotta say. I watched this video at least 4 times before commenting. That was fantastic. Oh and chills? YES!
For the reason you mentioned was your hesitance to record this video, I too did not want to watch this video, reverence to perfection. I frankly did not think anyone would have the nerve to cover this song. Ms. Guncikova, you brought me to tears. I've never heard this song or watched his performance without crying desperate tears. Congratulations. You were fearless and thank you.
It takes a rare talent to stand toe-to-toe with the spirit of Jeff Buckley, and Gabriela pulled it off. My favorite Buckley cover, and honestly the only one I have any time for. Incredible job!
Came here through your Jeff Buckley review. Gabriella is a great singer. First thoughts is that she sung very neat. It felt like she sang the notes but not the emotion. Maybe only good not to feel so intense like Jeff, that would be so hard on yourself. But from 4:25 she really gave herself. Soul ripping... Thanks Gaby and Ken keep up the good work.
Couldn't agree more. She forgot to think, which is what we have to do in order to be genuine. Up until that point in the song she exhibited great technical skill but lacked the purity and passion of what it means to be a "naked," genuine singer/artist/musician. Like Ken said in his review/critique of Grace: (paraphrasing, here) with Jeff, it's all about the passion. You just can't fake passion.
hey ken ! :) is your vocal program good for developing clear strong vocals with great range or are your program only for rock singers who want alot of distortion? my biggest influence is Jeff buckley and your program looks great but I'm a begginer to this vocal training stuff and I'm just making sure I'm not going to end up with another result than what I'm looking for, I hope you see this :)
My vocal program emphasizes great singing.. In fact I encourage people to sing without distortion to get a great clean sound first before using it distorted sound. I love Buckley too, You should check out my vocal demonstration with my student Gabriella Guncikova as we did the song Grace which you might appreciate. It's on the RUclips channel. Great singing to you.
As a profound Jeff Buckley fan, I am delighted by this incredible interpretation, you reincarnated this masterpiece. Way to go, Gabriela and Ken, greatest surprise of the day :D (I'd love to hear you singing this, Ken)
This just floors me every time I hear it! Listened quite a few times now and is more impressive every time. Congratulations Gabby and Ken! A masterpiece!
You should ask Ken! :-) But Gabriela is a big talent, beautiful voice colour and already great singer. I think her Grace is very good, but there is not enough darkens in female voice. And it is difficult to be Jeff. Because his soul is creating the song while he is singing, while he is touching the deepest fear and maybe even the wish. This could never be replicated. But Gabriela and Ken did a wonderful job, if this version was the first I heard, I would be speechless, which is almost impossible. Bravo Gabriela, bravo Ken!
I think she got better after this with ken's teachings...this sounds amazing but I noticed she has better compression/distortion which I think this song could have benefitted from in other songs and live performances since. She is amazing though but I think Ken taught her the key to compression since I've seen her use it a lot more recently
As one of the die-hard JB fans in the world, kudos to this woman...it's the first time I've heard someone do a cover of this song that doesn't sound completely slaughtered. Very nice.
4:49 I didn't like how she changed the rhythm while building up to 'that' note.. but when 4:55 hit me I nearly burst out in tears. Hands down one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard, Gabriela!
Back again as I would like to say Gabby's voice has the authenticity and fabulous range to take on this song and make it her own. She really nailed it, I will look out for her work. Now it has made me want to up my game and take your course. Well done Gabby!! You Rock.
The vocal capacity of this woman is incredible. The clear difference between Buckley's Grace and any version I've heard is that true connection to death. Jeff Buckley is a wolf howling at the moon. I think she really connects with the song from the middle and explode at the end. Excellent level!
I fell in love with Grace when I heard it on the radio a long time ago. I looked for covers and found few and dissapointing ones. Miss, you nailed it amazingly!
Franquito graneros it's not that easy, she was kind of exausted at the end. And being a woman doesn't mean you can hit high notes easily. (Nearly impossible for contralto)
I'm a huge Jeff Buckley junkie. I've seen just about every grace cover there is here on youtube. I was picking through again tonight and I'm absolutely blown away by this new addition. Holy fuck. Grace is such an incredible piece by Jeff, really captures power and presence unlike any other male vocalist. Every time I hear the original I think "I can't believe a mortal man did this". In a lot of ways, I feel it's harder for females to cover without a pretty significant reinterpretation. The backing track was not as lingering and ominous as I would have liked, and I feel lead to a little bit of rushed cues towards the end. The mic could also use some minor adjustments. But otherwise, this is undeniably the best rendition of Grace I've heard yet from anyone other than Jeff. Head and shoulders above any other female. Bravo Gabriela. You fucking shred.
Totally agree. Everything was pretty perfect except the backing track. It almost seemed to light and airy (at least to me). If it had a darker backing it would be even better.
+liermam yeah I know, usually I make my own backing tracks but in this case just had to find the best one we can find, in addition I pitched it up a full step which takes away from "heaviness" of the sound. We figured it was a lot better than not doing the track altogether. :-)
The more I listen to her version, the more I hear how good she is. I was somehow destructed by original, because author was kind of self-destructive and while I was listening the original I felt his personal inner struggle. It touched me differently and the whole song sounded differently. But now I can say that Gabriela vocally made this song even better.
Gabriella does some unbelievable covers ! Takes me way back and what a tribute to these artists who left us too soon ! Jeff Buckley … missing you on this side
Great job! It just really proves how beautifully Jeff improvised almost in a classical orchestrated setting, I would have loved Jeff performing this with a full orchestra....
Yeah I got goosebumps too! Man this was awesome Gabby!!! Great job! I like her rendition, just as much as the original... Thanks Ken and Gabby! God Bless!!!
I've listened to the original more than i would like to admit. this girl is amazing, it's not close to Jeff's take, though quite possibly the closest anyone will come. mainly, she's too articulate and the difference in the technical range of the stretched parts. enjoyed it thoroughly, thank you both for this upload.
the way you admitted about not claiming to be as cool as Jeff gets my respect. He is super tough and Gabby nailed this version here. She has a powerful voice! glad I stumbled on this. Huge fan of jeff and I think I might search some more of your vids to help with my own vocal ability. Cheers Ken!
Cheers! I've always enjoyed singing and now that I have finished uni and want to work on being a full time musician I need to focus on not damaging my voice. I've worked with a few vocal teachers before but I've always been bad with practicing any musical instrument. Trying to change that habit, hahaha. I've found guitar tutorials on youtube quite good for self development, So I'm going to check your videos out and figure out a practice/ damage prevention routine so I can work towards singing my favourite Buckley tracks with out developing nodes! if you have any particular videos of your that focus on keeping a healthy voice I would love to have a look!
Omg beautiful, simply marvelous! I love and admire Jeff Buckley so much, he is indeed untouchable but you, Gabriela, are incredible yourself. I felt true emotion coming, not only technicality, I felt it in my heart just like I do with Jeff. Truly amazing I am speechless.
Really well covered! WIth Jeff's work ,it is so key to find your voice and inspiration in his work and produce your own flavor of his beauty. Well done on all counts.
Awesome job Gabriela! I actually discovered Ken's youtube channel yesterday by his reaction to Jeff's Grace and well...i subscribed 20 seconds later. Such a pro, has a positive and lovely energy. Now on a journey from 20 years of chain smoking to try singing that song while giving it some kind of justice, or die trying, excuse the hyperbole. Cheers man keep the love.
This song takes out the juice of any good singer if he/she wants to sing this song properly. You have to be 100% involved, body and soul. Amazingly great performance by this lady. Jeff would have been proud!
You are as beautiful as your voice. It is impossible for me to find the words to explain the emotions and feelings that Jeff Buckeys voice does to me. Playing my guitar is the only way to express those emotions and feelings. Ive watched a few of your singing utube videos. And the few i have seen have done the same thing his voice has done for me. Thank u so much for inspiring my musical abilities.
This is a great song. She hit all the notes, some of the melismatic vocal trills were a bit over the too and unneccesary. The drone on the note of "goes so slow" works really well. The high scream is pretty delicious sounding too. Very good job.
Gabriela, your rendition of 'Grace' is incredibly moving. Beautiful & powerful. I had chills as well from ~5 seconds in. Jeff Buckley is one of my all-time 2 favorite musicians, so I wasn't sure what to expect from another artist's interpretation of his music. You did him, yourself and your teacher proud. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world.
WOW! Gabriela is always surprising me! :O What an amazing rendition of this song, which is one of my all-time favorites! Congrats Gabby, you gave me goosebumps as well! And congrats, Ken, for your wonderful job with those talented singers! Hope to get there someday! :D
I still come back to this and get chills. When Gabriela settles into that note @4:52 i'm like damn.....she holds then just explodes @4:58, still can't believe that's possible :-)
Oh My Goodness, I found myself out of breath and I was only watching! Wow! She makes you live it with her. Just Flat Out Amazing! Gabriela Blows me away with anything she does, first time I was out of breath though, Wow! Ken, you keep it up, Oh My Gosh Amazing work, as Always!
Neuvěřitelný výkon a bravurní podání takhle těžké písničky, smekám :) Absolutely amazing performance :) Totally swept me off my feet and blew me away :) Bravo.
holy fuck, the song choice was brave in the first place, but the way she attacked the ending was quite incredible. She has developed wonderful control over her voice
i am ex ahha really signer band rock prpof canada etc,, but now i m lurned from you guyes ands your amazing its help s me a big lot than youuuuuuuuuu xxxxxxxxx
This is really great! Terrific job! The problem with trying to cover JB is that his voice was amazing (four octave range), but his voice was far from perfect, with occasional cracks and slurs. That was a big part of his appeal and passion. It would be nearly impossible to cover him perfectly. Would love to hear you give his father a shot, maybe "Once I Was"?

What a mind blowing, ear bud melting, sonically soaring, call this her own rendition!
+betornween :-)
Back again. Love the control, power and poise. In one take, who can argue that this is one of the best, if not the best cover of this song.
Amazingly, I admire you Gabriela. Thank you very much for your singing.
when jeff buckley can hit notes higher than women
she goes higher id say xd
@@okancolak3904 Yep, she is singing a whole step higher
she plays the song in F# instead on E like jeff, so not really
She can get his high notes, but she’d struggle with the low E, Eb and D!
What do you all mean? She's doing great!
Holy sh*t, the ending was powerful. It left me with goosebumps and tears in my eyes!
Your cover helped me understand this song better and showed me how much effort Jeff had put in it.. great job
This is a great song. She hit all the notes, some of the melismatic vocal trills were a bit over the too and unneccesary. The drone on the note of "goes so slow" works really well. The high scream is pretty delicious sounding too. Very good job.
What a complete vocal showcase..
Absolutely phenomenal work Gabriela.
I am actually a bit lost for words at the moment.
Karen S. Gabriela did an awesome job!
Ten konec je brutální . Skvěle !!!!!
A talented beauty with a talented teacher. The best meeting!
Mykel Alexander Glad you appreciate Gabriela's take on this song,
My God! What an amazing interpretation, Gabriela! I am shocked! You are blessed with that amazing capacity
Patricia tinoco huerta I think Gabriela did an exceptional job on this piece. Really.
Oké I’m in love…. 😊JB is one of my favorite all time artists!
WOW! Gabriela is always surprising me! :O
What an amazing rendition of this song, which is one of my all-time favorites! Congrats Gabby, you gave me goosebumps as well! And congrats, Ken, for your wonderful job with those talented singers! Hope to get there someday! :D
Goosebumps on top of goosebumps Gabby is amazing
This is amazing, Jeff buckley has an amazing voice, and I think you nailed it !
I still come back to this and get chills. When Gabriela settles into that note @4:52 i'm like damn.....she holds then just explodes @4:58, still can't believe that's possible :-)
Rock on!
This is truly amazing what other words could possibly be used to express emotion that swells deep within.
We all thank you
+thenightmencometh :-)
Gabriela is freaking amazing. I'm a huge fan!
Really nicely done! Really liked the variation gabby showed with her voice. Two thumbs up!! :-) Great work!!
+Groovus Bassimus - Gabby knocked it out of the park! This is no easy piece. Thanks for your comment!
Umar Ganai Yes, every time I watch this video I am struck by Gabriela's control. Great job!
I got goosebumps from her voice lol. The open
She’s bloody good.

Tedy nevím co mám s ušima, ale tato verze je lepší než originál. Promiňte mi.🇨🇿
wow goose bumps is right
blown away she's soooooo good!
incrediable!!!! I defiantly felt the goosebumps.
Amazing and beautiful voice, sounding very polished...Jeff sang with a raw emotional hard to follow no matter how talented you are.
Perfect feeling and very grandios rendtion! Much loved it!!! Super bravo!!!
Thanks so much for your comment, Roses1401!
Absolutely killer performance!!
Wow that almost moved me to tears. Wow. Just Wow. I have no other words.
