Nerevarine actually went toe-to-toe with Hircine before. Dagoth Ur and Vivec, are said to much stronger than an normal Daedric God, and stated by Bethesda to be around the same level as Talos (According to Bethesda's official strongest character list, yeah, it is a very old and outdated list). And he can beat the crap out of Almalexia, and she went toe-to-toe with Dagon. Nerevarine is also responsable for slaying Karstaag. Those feats granted him the awesome title "Nerevarine, the God Killer"
