- Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep, sung by Katherine Jenkins, Illustrated and with Lyrics
Based on the poem by Mary Elzabeth Frye
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
In Japan the song (poem ) has been adapted by a musician & poet and set to a different touching tune, and is popularly sung on occasions of grief & sadness---the title (translated into English) could just be "A Thousand Winds" or the like. *I understand this tune (as sung here by Katherine Jenkins) is originally Irish (that is, if I'm right, it's a piece of Irish folk music with a poem written by an American lady!).♫
Have heard this a hundred times and will do so as long as i live........Katherine you are an Angel....as also the one who wrote this song......and the music
Wow, Absolute perfection. Katherine's voice & the pictures, Truly Awesome, Thank you so much..
+ndog2005 Thank you for the kind words - I love this piece and she sings it so movingly.
Personally I also love the melody as well as the words and think they are the perfect combination.
Beautiful Hymn!
One of my favourite songs.
Yes, I never tire of hearing this song either - find it very moving.

All I can't think of when I hear this song is Sherlock...
Sophia Roy Chodhury, Katherine Jenkins did not write this song. It is an old poem put to music.
You are quite correct - I said 'song by' but meaning 'sung by'. I have now amended the description. Thanks.
neonpuss1 I hadn't noticed it in the description. Only in the comments. This has always been one of my favorite poems. :-)
