This bit of gear makes sense. The guy with the top comment has no idea, want the added micpres, eq and dynamics you pay $80k. Want to add your own outboard then this makes thing makes total sense. Love it and I want one now!!!!
It makes sense, but only for a very small segment of users and scenarios. Certainly not for a commercial room. Certainly not for a tracking facility. Certainly not for remote recording. Way more certainly nots than otherwise. Its only attraction for me is as a control surface, and it is a bit lacking in that department for the price. As an analog mixer, I’m afraid it is virtually useless to me.
You've forgot to lower the price when you slashed eq and dynamics. Put that back in, add osc or simmilar daw protocol support and make new 16/32 channel king for studio and live. And please, calm your prices down, not all of us are doing new album for Demi Lovato.
There is some flexibility here but good God, $20K for a control surface and if I remember correctly they are using the HUI protocol. Save $17K US and just buy the Mackie Control! I own several SSL SuperAnalogue mic pres and really wish SSL would make a 32 channel analogue desk with these pres and control surface and price it around $25K. I would buy one in a heartbeat.
That's not exactly fair - it's extremely well built and well made, there's nothing else nearly as well built as this - it's the best control surface you can buy, it hooks up all your own gear - if you want SSL built in gear, get an AWS, and spend 80k. SSL is world class gear. it's not only a control surface it has analogue circuitry and summing. It's a pretty clever all in one. Not for me personally, but very clever. If I had a spare $20k and not $80K, I'd get one.
This should be pushed for the professional studio. It is no longer semi - professional. Because of the digital drum kits, acoustic solutions around microphones and silent boxes for guitar amplifiers.
So When Is The Right Time To Buy This Console ?? When You Made It So Far In The Game, You Make A Lot Of Money With Cheaper Equipment And Can Afford It Then ... Or When You Got A Record-Deal With Acces To Multimillion ($ €) Studios, And Don't Need That Kind Of Piece At Home Anymore ... Wonder How Many People In The World Actually Got That Matrix ...

What cracks me up is the DAW control functions, SSL went and trimmed this down to what they call the Nucleus...the matrix, everybody is ok with, a lot of pro producers and mix engineers use the nucleus, and nobody complains about the control that it has over a DAW, even with HUI. But when people talk about the Nucleus, they complain about the control that it has and how the buttons "feel cheap", funny it feels cheap when the hardware and control capabilities are exactly the same as the Matrix.

when i first started to look into SSL Total Recall in 1980 i was amazed by the 25k reduction in price for our recording studio justified by the lower price of silver used in soldering lol ;-) when we got the quotation for the systems purchases, with the DAW control surfaces invasion on the market place for less than 2.5k it makes it incredibly hard to justify an expenditure of several dozens of thousands on a console that being said if you are after a "brand" appeal for your studio than go for it
well you have to keep in mind that you are also paying for the SSL name, you must compare the price of this against other daw controllers, i know this ssl controller its great, but its pretty expensive also
Thanks for the video, nice and detailed. Helped me a lot. I’m now a happy owner of the Matrix. The only thing I didn’t find out is how I can run SOLO for me and not to affect the CUE STEREO of the artist headphone when recording? For example drumrecording.., I want to check snare over solo, the guidetrack and everything else mutes for the artist on drums also. It should only mutes for me. Can you give me an advice? Thanks.
I do not use the console for headphone feeds. I use PRE-FADER aux sends in my D.A.W. and assign those sends to CH outputs on the audio interface which connect to a multi channel headphone mixer like hearback etc. I use a separate mic pre and mic and route it to one of the headphone input mixer channels for talkback.-hope this helps

Please release a 24 faders version of the matrix! With also stereo options (like AWS 948 features) and groups faders

we have an ssl console minus the MICPRES, EQS AND DYNAMICS...
WTF! then we just have a 20k control surface.

So this is a BIG SSL Nucellus Controller? ummmm OK!
yeah i know except it is clever. Nothing on the market like it!! Sure it is expensive, anything SSL is but it is very high quality.
I have it...and it's great...i can mach any eq,comp or pre i want...
This is so insanely expensive for what it is. SSL have become a laughing stock.
Woops, meant to say... a lot of producers and mix engineers use the MATRIX, not the nucleus. my mistake.

Does each channel have a Record Arm button, that controls the rec arm button in the associated channel in the DAW for example?
Do the digital scribble strips recieve the name data from the DAW channel/track names?

Supongo que esa es de las más económicas verdad? Por curiosidad cuál es su precio?

too expensive to be a crap controller.
Joe Vazquez Productor Musical just say you can’t afford it 😂

@@cmath8577 thanks. I found out in the menu of the console to switch the solo mode. All good now. 😎
@musicman8942 i think you might need an hearing test...
