      In your arctool box.
      Search for Analysis Tool
Locate proximity and select point distance
After you are done calculating the distance you can view it from checking your attribute table
Open your attribute table, select table options from the left upward corner of your table
      Click on joins and relates
      Select join
      Select table from another spatial......
      Select that option
Choose your distance file or feature you have selected
Select average from the options and run it
Afterwards, close the attribute table and view your new joint output table
Open attribute table and move right to view your average distance

How do you calculate the average distance for a feature?

You can use the proximity tool in the analysis toolbox

What can we do when the autocorrelation process fails?

It's probably because you selected the wrong input file.
If you calculated for average distance, use that as your input distance
