Can we focus on the fact that Kristin has stayed constant with her delivery for years? I love the simplicity and that she always gets right to the point ❤ Nothing frou frou or frothy. Not minutes of talking, before she dives in. And she has done this for always. Thanks for all your ideas 💕
Totally! Wine that you’ll just use for cooking (not necessarily drinking) is great to freeze and there’s no better feeling than knowing you don’t have to buy a $10 bottle for one recipe or open a whole bottle just for a quarter cup.
@@MaritaCovarrubias01 I think it has to do with the alcohol content. Wine generally won't freeze unless the temp is negative 22 F; most standard freezers are around zero F. The lower the alcohol content, though, the easier it will be to freeze.
When you make anything whether it's burgers or Salisbury steak patties, etc. Poke (not all the way through the patty) 3 holes into your mixture and they will not shrink and you have a very juicy and delicious burger or what have you. I'm a chef and this works everytime.
I just love that you are so real! So many people change who they are or how they do things to make it more "social media acceptable" (in other words, fake 😂), but you keep it real. 🩷 Love all these meal ideas!
Lump Free Gravy - Put the full amount of the gravy granules in a bowl with like 1/4 cup of COLD water. Whisk it until full combined then add the rest of the water and cook as usual. It always works!
Hi Kristen! I have been watching your videos for a long time… I love how you use what you have on hand and are not wasteful. I also love how you stick to your roots when cooking. Watching your videos has taught me a lot in my own cooking journey!!
I don’t drink, but I sometimes like to cook with wine. I buy the little tiny bottles that come in a 4 pack. They’re probably not the highest quality, but good for my purposes.
This is the second time Ive commented on your meals...I can't get over how appealing they are to my boys and I tastes...I shall be making these without a doubt...thank you
Capers add a gentle briney flavor - even my kid who hates everything likes capers. a tip for leftover wine. I freeze mine in freezer molds that hold 2 tablespoons (roughly the size of an ice cube tray). whenever a recipe calls for a little wine, I toss in a cube or two. works great!
Happy FriYAY and happy St. Patrick's Day, sweet friend. Another great video of delicious meals. Adding a few of these to our meal plan. We have loved everything we have tried you've shared.
All the recipes you shared looked delicious Kristen... thank you for the meal ideas!!!! I don't normally like Salisbury Steak, but I think I may have to try them. (That would make my hubby VERY happy)😊 I cant remember the 1st meal we had/made in our house, we moved in back in 2020 and we were coming from being homeless so we didnt have much in the way of food, furniture or anything. I was just grateful to finally have a home of our own. We probably ate something processed...no shame in my game!!!!!❤❤
That is exactly how I make my chili but I've never had it with the spaghetti in it I'm definitely going to do it I agree the brown sugar is a really good touch thanks for another great video
Capers are delicious! They’re very salty, so you don’t need many of them. If you’re a fan of anything in a brine (pickles, olives, etc.) then I think you’ll like them.
I’m also not a wine drinker but I like cooking with wine. I buy the little four-packs that are maybe a cup each? They’re $6 or so for four small bottles at my local Publix. So then I can open one at a time and not worry about a big bottle going bad at some point. Capers taste sort of like salty green olives.
Our first meal in our new house was actually frozen pizza on a blanket in the living room! We were moving from far away and didn't have any of our stuff moved yet, so no furniture, but we were actually excited to have frozen pizza because our oven in our old house and been out of commission for at least 6 months and we knew we didn't want to buy a new one since we were moving soon and our new house might have a stove already(which it did). So, although it was only frozen pizza, we made a fun little picnic out of it! Our boys were pretty young then, 10 and 6 I think, so it is a pretty special memory❤ Thanks for sharing all your meal ideas! I cook constantly for my family and I love getting new ideas so I don't get in a rut.
Good morning Kristin. What a haul. Love that down home southern cooking. Everything looks absolutely delicious. I do believe my favorite items are that homemade Salisbury steak. - and of course that Garlic Parmesan chicken drumsticks and those homemade fries. That being said, thanks so much for your great recipes, and as always have a great weekend full of fun, family and food. 😊😊
A good hack for buying wine to cook with is buy the Sutter home small bottles that come in little packs of 4 because you can just use as much as you need and then you have fresh unopened wine for other recipes. Otherwise an open bottle of wine is only good in the fridge for about a week.
I make a similar dish like u did the Salisbury patties but I use oatmeal instead of bread crumbs and I make mine into small balls with brown gravy. The mustard add something to it
So much good stuff in this one. The Instant Pot is my go to for several of my potato 🥔 recipes, easy, quick and mistake proof. Now I am hungry for chicken legs 🍗 & chili 🥣. Hope you have a great weekend with your family. 💟
Capers are tangy. While they don’t taste exactly like pickles, that’s the best description. They are excellent with Mediterranean style dishes. They add a bite and a brightness to dishes that use butter, wine/lemon juice, garlic and herb sauces. I’d recommend trying them next time, but using half what the recipe called for in case you’re not a fan. Their flavor won’t be as strong that way. You can always pick them out. For the wine, use smaller bottles that a good for about 2 glasses. Gallo and Sutter Home are two brands that I can think of. Put the cap or cork back on the bottle and refrigerate. It should last about a week.
I’m from Kentucky. My granny lived there her whole life. She put spaghetti in her chili. I need to make it that way soon as I haven’t had it since she passed when I was 13
the best way i can describe a caper is that it’s the texture of cooked peas and the taste is salty and tangy. i personally don’t think they taste a lot like olives, more like a super sour pickle. but since they’re so small they add great little pops of flavor in your food
Moving into our house was so special!! However, I had a 2 year old and a 3 week old and I honestly can’t remember what our first meal was in our house! Whatever it was, it made our bellies full!
My dad preaches pb&j with minestrone or vegetable soup. My first meal when me moved in was a chicken salad from the pizzeria across the street because we didn't yet have a stove.
The first meal in our house my friend Katie brought us - crockpot Mac and cheese, pulled pork and a bunch of other sides! It was such a blessing to not have to think about cooking and she even came back and cleaned it all up!
I am not from the south, so seeing spaghetti with chili was new for me. Tried it the other day and it is a game changer! My new favorite way to eat chili.
Capers are so good. They're super salty and they have a softer texture. I'd use the wine in small amounts in any sauces or soups (maybe not chicken noodle)
I like to season and bake my drumsticks then the last 10-15 minutes of the cook time I pour lawrys or great value lemon pepper marinade or garlic and herb marinade and bake another 10-15 minutes. My kids love both. Also thanks for sharing all your recipes I am always needing help with my weekly meal planning
Everything looks delicious!! Capers are pickled flower buds. I would say the taste is kind of like green olives. I use them in a few of my recipes and we love the flavor it adds.
Everything looks amazing. I love capers! They are salty, briney, bright. They go great with lemon. You weren’t too far off, it’s pronounced scallo-peen-ee. Just add a y sound at the end.
Kristen, mix a jar of Apricot preserve, Italian dressing onion soup package mix well. Put the drum stick they are the best if you marinate for 3days Enjoy
You can pour the wine into ice cube trays and then once frozen store the cubes in a ziplock in the freezer…. Risotto starts with wine, you use it in seafood or chicken recipes….. or you can freeze it directly on a sheet pan and then use a fork to make a granita/wine icee
Garlic can be frozen in mini ice cubes or in a freezer bag. Flatten to squeeze out the air. Press indents to make it easy to break off squares as needed.
Hi Kristin ! I usually make the same recipes with drums as I do with other chicken parts . Like lemon pepper baked drums or honey garlic. Really simple and quick , I also do cream of chicken or mushroom soup . I have grans so I like cooking easy meals that will fill them up . Love your videos!
I keep my wine I use for cooking in the fridge for months with no issues. Although recently I started buying a 4 pack of mini bottles to use for cooking.
Thank you for sharing, I love your videos!! Honey garlic crockpot chicken is delicious too, it has a sauce you make that can be served over rice.... 6-8 chicken legs 3 tsp crushed garlic 1/2 cup of honey 3 Tbs of soy sauce 1 tsp onion powder Salt and pepper to taste 1 cup of chicken broth 1 tbs of cornstarch 1/3 cup of water Green onion and sesame seeds to garnish Cooked rice Line a cooking sheet with foil preheat oven too 400° Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper Add to cooking sheet, cook for 20 minutes Place in crockpot add garlic & honey move chicken around to coat , cook on low for 4-5 hours, remove when cooked add chicken broth & water, stir removing honey bits and garlic from the pot, add onion powder & cornstarch....... stir a minute or so, add chicken back in stir to coat, cook an additional 20 minutes Serve over rice & garnish
I am 66….grew up near Lexington…my dad’s family had a cookout every summer with Uncle Charlie’s pork tenderloin being the star of the show! Came in a (I think) yellow bucket with a red lid. So I know what you mean about Uncle Charlie’s!
We had Dairy Queen, like tenders and burgers, first meal in our new house, we've been here almost 3 years! I have a bottle of Chardonnay in my frig, just use it for recipes, over 6 months old! I just put the cap back on it! I like your fry pan Kristin! Now when I turn my meat, I get the same browning you get, I know my stove is slightly off balance! Thanks for sharing this video with us!
You will find it a lot easier to mix up brown gravy lump free if you start with cold water. It’s the heat that makes it thicken, so if you add the powder to hot water it “thickens” immediately into clumps.
Amen to that Ky chili. Fellow Kentuckian here and it’s not chili without spaghetti noodles. Just had it last night with a pb sandwich…nothing better!! ❤❤
Hi Kristin. Years ago, I found a recipe called Crispy Herbed Baked Chicken on the back of a box of Idaho Instant potato flakes. You do have to take the skin off your chicken legs, but trust me, it's amazing. The butter makes the meat so tender, and the combination of instant potato flakes and parmesan cheese mixture gives it its crispiness when it bakes. Do a search for Crispy Herbed Baked Chicken, Idaho potato flakes and many Websites will pop up. I'm definitely gonna try that Pesto Rice.
Yes, Sarahi. You add the instant potato flakes and parmesan cheese to a bowl. You melt butter and roll the chicken legs/pieces in the melted butter, then roll them in the breadcrumbs/parmesan mixture. I'm so sorry. On my original comment I did use the work "breadcrumbs" instead of instant potato flakes, but I've gone back and edited it now.
when I make Salisbury steak I use Campbells french onion soup ... just add flour ( you eyeball5 it to see how thickness you want the sauce ).. milk ketchup mustard Worcestershire sauce salt and pepper ... its how my mom and her mom always made it and we also use saltine crackers instead of breadcrumbs
Hey Kristin! Some ideas for chicken legs...do them the same way as the porkchops but put them into the oven at 400° until done, about 40 minutes or so. Also marinades are fabulous. Lemon pepper then oven bake. Buffalo chicken sauce then oven. Anyway, food looks delicious as always!! Many blessings...
My mom used to make Salisbury steaks, but she added an egg to the meat mixture. I don’t seem to have her recipe anymore. I’ll try yours and skip the egg. The chili reminds me of Cincinnati chili. Do know what I’m talking about? My son-in-law from norther Kentucky served us that. Seems like on top of spaghetti noodles instead of mixed in. I liked it, but remember it having an unusual flavor. Good variety of meals. They all look great!
It's funny you add spaghetti to chili. It's like chili mac with elbows or taco pasta. I won't put it in my chili but I like to make noodles or any kind and put some chili over it. Also, left over chili is really good over eggs too.
Can we focus on the fact that Kristin has stayed constant with her delivery for years? I love the simplicity and that she always gets right to the point ❤ Nothing frou frou or frothy. Not minutes of talking, before she dives in. And she has done this for always. Thanks for all your ideas 💕
Chili spaghetti is an ohio thing lol....
I was literally thinking that as I watched! Years! So consistent
Put the wine in ice cube trays and freeze. After they are frozen put them in a ziplock bag and you can drop them into recipes whenever you want 😊
Great tip!😊
Totally! Wine that you’ll just use for cooking (not necessarily drinking) is great to freeze and there’s no better feeling than knowing you don’t have to buy a $10 bottle for one recipe or open a whole bottle just for a quarter cup.
I’ve done this before, and they never fully froze. They were like wine slushies. Did I do something wrong?
@@MaritaCovarrubias01 I think it has to do with the alcohol content. Wine generally won't freeze unless the temp is negative 22 F; most standard freezers are around zero F. The lower the alcohol content, though, the easier it will be to freeze.
If you have limited freezer space, you can buy the little bottles or mini boxes. I do that because I don’t have deep freezer
I love the smell of fresh cut grass and the birds chirping when it's nice out
For me, capers taste like a cross between an olive and a pickle. 😊
When you make anything whether it's burgers or Salisbury steak patties, etc. Poke (not all the way through the patty) 3 holes into your mixture and they will not shrink and you have a very juicy and delicious burger or what have you. I'm a chef and this works everytime.

you can freeze wine in ice cube trays, then freeze in a zipolc bag. You can do the same thing for pesto!
I love the pork scallopini idea! Thanks for another great video
Wine freezes well in ice cube trays, put them in a Ziplock bag and use 1 or 2 cubes at a time 😊
