Coming along in leaps and bounds Nate for such a big undertaking. The engineering aspect appears quality work with everything suitably placed. Enjoyed.
Well, there is an input hose from the compressor, an output hose from the dryer to the tanks, and a purge line. They all attach pretty easily. You might need an adapter on your purge line, easily sourced at any hardware store. I chose to not hook up the heater and went with the cheaper 12v version over the 24v. My setup is a little different than standard because I moved everything around to accommodate space for my black and grey tanks.
@@BERZERKERSV4 So far so good! I haven't put many miles on it, but I'm not the first guy to use it either. The canisters can be bought from Napa or any auto parts store (or online) for under $15 too. Easy to service!
It coming along! How long was the extension to allow for the 20’ box to sit on the rails? I’m wondering for my own theories about extending the frame between the front and rear axles and then an angled habitat box but need to know how many feet behind the rear wheel is overhanging..? A 20’ habitat seems right in my mind to acomidate my needs and not underutilize the trucks ability to carry. More than that seems like it would get unwieldy. Reilly great to see an idea thats running close to my own all pealed back, since at this point my playground is only mental!
I had the same plan as you. Extending the driveshaft would be fairly easy on the 6x6. But after looking at it in person a bunch, I chose to extend the rear and not touch the axle locations. I felt that losing the departure angle a bit was better than losing the break over clearance. The back of the box is still 60" off the ground, so you really aren't losing that much departure angle anyway. From memory, the extension was about 3'6". I did remove all the stuff behind the cab to gain an extra 2' of room as well. That is a huge undertaking to do, but I felt really worth it in the end. With the bike rack on the rear, the entire truck is under 30' long, so it is big but not too bad. Plus with extending the rear, you keep the turning radius. Probably the best base, if you can find one, is a wrecker chassis. They are a little longer in the middle already.
I’m surprised you got two feet up front! I was thinking you only gained maybe 12” or so with the smaller air filter still needing some room to live. How wide are the tires on these things!?
Its a bit of design and build at the same time. I've got pretty good idea of what I want, but since this is a one off, there's no need to do all the extra work for CAD. Most of my drawings are on scratch paper and soapstone on the floor. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching! So far, so good. I never did change the heater portion out to 24v, but I'm rarely in freezing temps anyway. Just about to change the first cartridge out as I'm seeing a little water in the wet tank.

Thank you! Been a bit of a design while build, with a basic idea in my head to start!
it would be great for us 1078 noobies if you posted a step by step install video of your Amazon air dryer.. thanks !

@@NateVolk is the Amazon air dryer working AOK?

@@Eliukcory I'm also going with a custom air filter. I have about 8" between the box and the cab. The tires are about 15" wide :)
do you do any of the planning on CAD pre build or just suck it and see. :D

Nate, been following the build. Have any long term input on the air dryer?

@@NateVolk aloha, just asked about this on another video and then found your answer here. Appreciate it!
