I’m helping out at work loading the hourly time from time_clock_plus into a spreadsheet, which my coworker did manually, but he’s injured and will be out for 2 months. Hoping to save time, so I can get back to my own work.

I've just created a workbook that will save a colleague three to four hours of paper printing, approval collection and searching through fifty companies for open invoices... Every week... All she needs to do now is click refresh twice and send the file for approval and comments.... her manager now sees the open invoices in one place, along with the bank balances available, and can click to approve and see immediately the affect of the run on cash, order cash movements and move on with the day. Wow I love it! :)

Thanks Mike. I finally understand the difference between "Only Create Connection" which is PowerQuery, and "Add this data to the Data Model" which allows you to create relationships etc. Great video as always!

I would like to point out that the new array functions like sort, filter, unique, etc. are great ways to extract unique records I am glad i didn't have to work with those long and tedious formulas for extracting unique items. In Power Query we can merge tables (join tables) to do this. With the ‘person’ CRM database table in the Power Query Editor: 1) click the Merge button in the Combine group in the Home Ribbon Tab, 2) In the Merge window use the ‘person’ CRM database table on both sides of a Left Outer Merge where the first table column is referringId and the second table column is PK ID, 3) in the next step Expand the new Table Column, 4) then sort of add data types as desired.

Each video in this series took 50 or more hours to make. A couple of them took over 200 hours with all the research, story boarding, Excel file creation, filming, editing, re-filming, post production prep and so on...

One field is a person ID called referringId and point to another person row in the same table. This person is called the referrer because he brought the original row person into our org. I sql I would join the table with itself to get the referrer’s name, etc. i excel I’d do a vlookup. How would I do this in PQ? Happy to explain further or clarify. Thanks for considering!

In Power Query we can merge tables (join tables) to do this. With the ‘person’ CRM database table in the Power Query Editor: 1) click the Merge button in the Combine group in the Home Ribbon Tab, 2) In the Merge window use the ‘person’ CRM database table on both sides of a Left Outer Merge where the first table column is referringId and the second table column is PK ID, 3) in the next step Expand the new Table Column, 4) then sort of add data types as desired.
