The only thing harder than losing a child is feeling responsible for it. The grief and guilt is so powerful most do not make it through. Accidents are horrible but they happen. Both of these parents have to try and heal. As a parent every fiber in us is to protect our children and when we are unable it is devastating. Bless this family🙏😢
My son died almost 14 years ago after a placental abruption. He survived birth then died 8 days later in the hospital. I have spent countless hours trying to figure out what caused it despite the doctors telling me it was spontaneous and not my fault. I will never not blame myself. He was in my body and I failed him. Praying for this family because I know how consuming the guilt is. ❤️

I lost my daughter in 1996 , she was on TWA Flight 800. No one thinks their plane will crash. I always feel like I should have stood up to her father, who wanted her to go. I didn’t.

All the mean spirited people coming on here and judging this grieving Father-when your day comes and you’ve had bad judgement… when tragedy falls upon you unexpectantly…I hope you are treated with kindness and compassion so you will finally learn what that feels like. Judging someone who will punish themselves for a mistake they made for the rest of their lives, unintentionally…something they wish every single day that they could take back is something only a desperate, lonely and miserable human being could do. Look in the mirror, and if you see perfection it’s time to buy a different mirror.

We lost our son just over four months ago in a car accident. He was 20 yrs old. It’s so difficult. I am so so sorry for the loss of your beautiful girl Sunni. All these people asking how does this happen with so many adults, It’s actually more likely to happen because of False security. It’s more likely for a child to drown with several adults around than just one adult because people believe the other is watching when actually none are watching.

I grew up with 7 siblings. We always did headcounts. Not blaming anyone, I wish they would've thought to do that.
There is no one to blame here and thats why it's called an accident. The parents and others that were there, I'm sure, blame themselves enough. I read a suggestion to do what pilots do when transferring control of the airplane to the other pilot. One says, "your plane" and the other responds "my plane". What grownups can do is saying your and my with the name of the child, such as "your Johnny" then the other grown up responds "my Johnny".
I just lost my 2 1/2 yr old grandson to an accidental drowning..the loss my son and his wife feel is beyond measure, prayers to all the parents/ families who have lost a child 🙏

Yes! I have been there! I lost my son to an accidental drowning myself due to a babysitter who wasn't watching him!! My son had drowned in an open septic hole left by this woman!! And to this day, I still cannot forgive this woman!!

A family where I live lost their three year old at thanksgiving when he slipped out the back door and drowned in the pool in the backyard. This, with 50 people in the house for Thanksgiving. Accidents happen. My heart goes out to this man and his family. 😢😢

My daughter died almost 20 years ago and I attended a grief group for parents for several years. One on the sets of parents lost their son in a similar manner. The father ran over him with their boat. At every meeting where they told their story, I would cry as if it were my own child. ANY way you lose a child is horrific, but for it to be an accident that you were responsible for? It’s maddening. Please dont run this over and over in your mind. Sunny would not want you to lose yourself over her death. You will see her again one day.

I stumbled on to this podcast and my heart goes out to you and your family. I’ve watched several of your episodes and it has helped me after all the years of the tragic loss of my brother. In 1985, my 19 year old brother died in a tragic accident and died in my father’s arms. My brother and I were best friends. Life has never been the same for me. God has been with me every step of the way but nothing fills the void of such a loss.

Keep her memory alive all the days of your life and, if you have other children and grandchildren, make sure they remember and pass on the memory of her.
I'm very, very sorry. Do things that she would want you to do or continue certain things she loved. Trust me, it helps.
My beloved son, Eiric, died on June 9, this year. There is absolutely NOTHING worse than the death of a child, burying them, then trying to live without them. He was 47, my only child, and his death was completely unexpected; from two undiagnosed medical conditions. I wish I had died with him. And yes, I blame myself. I should have known, and I let him down. My heart is absolutely crushed.

My nieces friends were on a pontoon boat. The wind got strong and flipped over the boat. Killing the grandma and her two grandsons. Very sad..

It’s gut-wrenching to think about how quickly life can change from having fun one second to the worst pain possible the next. 6:36 freaking broke me! This is exactly my thought process when my son was shot and killed by his “friend”. With my oldest running in screaming my youngest son was shot, never in a zillion years would I ever think I would be starting CPR only to hear his last breaths and feel his heart stop. I think that the “our kid is fine” is a way for parents to not lose their mind immediately and try to stay calm. Lots of love to everyone!
I hope this man’s story will help save another child/persons life , head count and spotters are needed any time you are doing water sports/swimming . This is heartbreaking . 🙏
Headcount’s should be second nature with or without kids during an activity like this. But what I don’t understand is how neither parent was keeping track of their own child! I know I’m coming close to victim blaming and that is not at all my intention but my gosh I just don’t understand this.
As a professional swim instructor this is my life’s purpose.This is exactly why I do what I do. stories like this are horrific. It only takes seconds. My heart goes out to anyone who has lost a child especially to water accidents. don’t ever judge someone else unless you have been in their shoes and even then you shouldn’t judge, you should empathize because you have been there! No one would choose this as a loving parent. Sometimes horrific things happen to the best people and we as a community just need to surround them with love and learn from the tragedy

Today is the funeral for a two year old boy in our small town. He was playing under the tractor when his dad, obviously unaware that he was there, started it and drove over him.
This is so sad. Accidents are hard to deal with.

A friend lost her 18 mth old son-the dad didnt see him & drove the Combine Harvester out of the shed.

Despite what some judgemental people in this comment section seem to think, tragic accidents can happen to any family at any time. Nobody can be 100% attentive 100% of the time. Anyone who believes they are somehow too perfect to let anything bad happen to their child is, quite frankly, delusional.
@donnamorgan2522 A family I knew 30 years ago from church experienced this. A cousin was spending the summer with them and he was a teenager. He got pulled into the combine.
It is wonderful you give parents a voice I lost my son to fentanyl overdose in the grieving was awful, impacted with guilt if it wasn't for my faith in Jesus My heart was rescued by him. But thank you for giving the voice to parents we need that. I

This is one of the most devastating stories I have heard. I also have suddenly lost a daughter when she was 30 years old. Doesn’t matter the age or how it happens the overall devastation grief and crumbling of the loved ones left behind is a very real tragedy that we all know all too well. I can’t help but notice that most of the people interviewed on your podcast so far have a relationship with God. I hope you realize that there are many people out here that do not and the impression should be that anyone is welcome on your podcast not just people of faith

As a parent who lost a child…. this is the worst thing any person will ever live thru. No other loss matches….
As the person who was driving the car that crashed & ultimately killed my child….. the survivors grief of coming back & not staying dead eats raw daily.
Now for the call to 911 & saying she’s dead & not to send anyone….. that’s not right, you still try.
Thankful for the helicopter, police, fire, ambulance, nurses, ER doctors, & the pediatric cardiologist that worked on my daughter for over 2 hours, fighting for her life.
You still try…. you ALWAYS try for your kids.

My daughter is currently at the Er with my 8 month old grandson. His fever is 103.1 and he is throwing up. We don’t know what is wrong with him yet, but before watching my thoughts went to, idk what I’d do if something were to happen to him. I thought about how sad I would be not just for myself but for my daughter. It’s strange this video was in my feed. My heart goes out to this man and his family. I can’t imagine how I would feel. @@wendydayz6673so glad to hear he is recovering well. My own daughter, who is two, had a very high fever earlier this year as well. She was up to 105 and we took her to the hospital. It was Covid 19. She has since recovered well as well. You always hear about these super high fevers but don’t think much u til you’re face to face with it. Very scary.
The pain of losing your child is undescribable...I miss my son so much ...I still have a slow bleed in my heart....by God's grace I pray each day gives me more peace and comfort...

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s so heartbreaking to lose your child this way. I lost my niece when she was 4 in a car accident and I never got over the loss.

I'm so sorry for the devastating loss of your beautiful, Sunni. Accidents are so difficult to reconcile because of the tendency to blame and bargain and think if only this, or that, a fraction of a second making a difference, or if she'd been two feet to the left or the right. We go through life, trying to do our best, and we make mistakes and make oversights every single day and nobody gets hurt. Very rarely things align in such a way that it brings us to our knees, and I'm so sorry things worked out this way for you and your family. I know Sunni was loved, and she certainly wouldn't want you to blame yourself in the same way that I'm sure you wouldn't want to place this burden on your family if you had been the one to pass in a boating accident. We all want the best for our loved ones. You wanted the best for Sunni and now trust that she wants the best for you as well because she loved you so much. It always goes both ways. I wish you strength and healing...

I lost my first daughter August 24, 2003. She was 5 1/2 months old. The pain does subside but the loss never does.

I just list my husy emma grace 2 says ago and i can barely breathe. I cannot comprehend losing a child. I am unable to have children so my dogs are my whole life. Emma lived a full life and i have peace in that. I cant imagine losing one of my fur babies in a horrific accident. I pray this family find peace together 😢

RIP Sunni. Such a tragic loss. This family have to live with the guilt for the rest of their lives.
This is similar to what happened to Kirsty McColl. Her son was diving, a speed boat was approaching him, Kirsty saw it was coming for him, she managed to push him out of the way and she also got hit by the propellers. It was a rich man’s boat. No one was held accountable.
