  • Cold plunging has been a regular part of my wellness routine since I took my first ice bath at a biohacking conference in 2021. Since then, I've installed multiple cold plunge tubs in our home spa, testing them for comfort, temperature, and a range of other factors.
    This video lists my top five picks based on testing and first-hand experience, broken down into the following categories:

    0:27 - Things to Consider Before Purchasing a Cold Plunge

    8:32 - Morozko Plunge: The Coldest Ice Bath

    Correction: Morozko Forge offers a three-year warranty for its standard tub. Only the more expensive Pro version features a five-year warranty. I misspoke in the video.

      Is there a reason you did not review the edhe theory labs plunge? Seems like it competes directly with the therafrost, and at least is a light color, so imagine that helps in hot sunny places.

      @@stefanoloretto4554 That appears to be the same product with a different logo. So whatever I said about the Therafrost probably applies to this one too :)

    I actually bought the IcePod Pro with the Pro water chiller (1/2 HP), and it's really quite fantastic, especially for the money. I'm 6'3, 250lbs, so the Pod was just a little tight, but completely usable for someone my size. I ended up swapping out the Pod for an inflatable tub off of Amazon for about $700, which connected seamlessly to the chiller. I did keep the Pro Pod, in case I want to take the chiller system on the go, since it will be much more mobile than the paddle board material tub. Hope this helps anyone who is thinking about this option.

      Honestly, I never used a third-party chiller with any of my "chiller-less" tubs. But I know that Ice Barrel is launching a chiller soon and I'll check it out then.

    Great detailed video, with the TheraFrost, what is the drainage like? Is it possible to hook up a hose to the drain connection to run it a few metres to outside if the plunge is going to be setup indoors?
    Beautiful German Shepherd too 👌🏼

      Yeah, absolutely. I haven't tried it yet but the connections look fairly standard and should accept a regular garden hose.

    @MichaelKummer Great video, sir! Thank you. I'm new to cold plugging, and this was very helpful. I live in Alberta, Canada, and in the winter, it gets cold outside. Right now, the high is -9°C, and overnight it goes down to -25°C. Any recommendations to keep a cost-effective tub around 3 degrees? Should I just set up inside?

    • @MichaelKummer
      @MichaelKummer  4 месяца назад +1

      Does running water freeze in your area? If so, I'd keep the tub inside. If not, any tub with a filtration system/chiller should do the trick.

    Hi Michael, I was looking at the pod company tub and chiller. I see you recommend the pod company tub but what about the pro chiller they offer?
    2. Do you have a review on their chiller? 3. Is having an ozone generator necessary to keep the water clean and germ free for 6 months?
    4. Iv heard having an ozone, it has to be in well ventilated area, it will be in my house so it’s not outside well ventilated.
    5. Are there substitutes for ozone? Can you use H2O2 in a rubber pod tub?
    6. Does H2O2 effect and parts inside chiller /filter?
    7. I’m also considering a Penguin chiller/filter, can I use that with a rubber pod company tub?
    I’m a newbie as you can see, I appreciate your help and patience with all my questions. Thank you!!!

      Hey Denise,
      1. I haven't had a chance to test the chiller yet but I'm trying to get my hands on one.
      2. Not yet.
      3. Yes, without ozone it'll be challenging to keep the water clean for extended periods. Unless, you want to use chemicals.
      4. Ventilation isn't a concern with water sanitation because the ozone reacts with the water molecules immediately. So there is never ozone in the air that you might inhale.
      5. Possibly UV light but I've never seen a unit that uses only UV. I add a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide into my water every week or so but I'm not sure if that would be enough without ozone filtration.
      6. Not in the amounts I add.
      7. Never heard of that but most chillers are relatively comparable and you can use them interchangeably. You just might need an adapter for the connections
      Cheers,
      Michael

    I live in Costa Rica and it is always sunny and hot here. Concerned about the chiller lasting and being able to get to 37 degrees. I would get the therafrost except I think the black color will retain heat and make the chiller work much harder and not last. Any one have any thoughts? thanks

    The insulation is an important factor to be considered as you don't want to run your pump and chiller 24/7. Because of that in my view the Modplunge is unbeatable, price/performance/maintenance wise.

    • @MichaelKummer
      @MichaelKummer  3 месяца назад +1

      I don't think there is an issue with running the chiller 24/7 (except for energy use). The Therafrost I showed in the video can be put on a schedule btw.

      Why not just convert your bathroom tub into a cold plunge tub?

    • @MichaelKummer
      @MichaelKummer  27 дней назад

      @@DrScottLehr You'd have to constantly refill it with fresh water and ~120 lb of ice before every plunge. If you keep it filled, you can't use the tub for showers or hot baths. A chiller is a significant convenience factor that makes it more likely you stick to cold plunging.
