- Las Pozas (“The Pools”) is a subtropical garden established by twentieth-century British poet Edward James. Soaring out of the Mexican jungle near the town of Xilitla, the gardens are home to enormous concrete works of art that live alongside the tropical landscape. Read more on NOWNESS - bit.ly/2pLDoIA

I visited Las Pozas several years ago hiring a car to take me from San Miguel de Allende. It was a long drive so I stayed in a hotel in Xilitla and planned to visit early the next morning. It was raining that night and I worried that it would spoil my visit the following day. I awoke to a mist left over by the rain and went to discover the garden. It was magical, surreal and no doubt the perfect way to see it - misty with a touch of fog and quiet. One of my all time favorite travel memories.
Oh wow. Cool memory and experience!
It must be a wonderful trip. Is Las Pozas open to public? Can anybody visit it?
😍
what are your other favorite travel places? :)
That must have been a great experience!

“The garden is in charge, we’re just passing through.” 🙏♥️
love that! what a great video
It's a time share.
! ¡ Don't drop it.
This architecture/spatial series is one of the finest things on RUclips, whoever puts these together, salute.
I shot and directed this for Nowness. Thank you.
well thanks a bunch and great work, its gorgeous!
You are very kind thank you.
mic9check ...I totally agree with you!
Toby Amies ...Beautifully done...Wonderful work you've done!!
I visited the town of Xilitla back in 2002. I have family in Xilitla and my Father was born there. The video shows the beauty of that area, an area untouched by industrialization. I would love to go back and visit Las Pozas.
The opening sequence with the red gate was amazing!
Yes it has great appeal...what is behind this red door is magical.⭐
Increíble! 💓💓💓💓💓
"I can't think of a better place to haunt" ... Neither can I.
We visited in February 2017, it is truly one of the most beautiful experiences I've ever known, cannot wait to visit again....
I have a wonderful tropical garden in the coffee highlands of Guatemala outside the colonial ex capital,of Antigua which is a UNESCO world heritage site. I am surrounded by coffee fincas on the skirt...la falda of Volcan Agua which gives me wonderful views of active Volcan Fuego and Volcan Acatenango. My husband has collected 100 orchids which rebloom each year....we have palms, ferns, many tropical plants such as agaves etc thatare, popular in Mexico too. . and 50 rose bushes because this area was famous for exporting cut rose s to the USA so we were able to buy directly from those growers, roses well adapted to this special micro climate. WE have high walls covered with confetti covered multi colored blooms of bougainvillea, collar de Reina, thumbergia in yellow and tourquoise flowers which attracts hummingbirds. The hummingbirds build their nests close by in our bougainvilla walls.
We went on a shopping trip,to Dolores Hidalgo, MX for talavera tiles, to Taxco for tin lanterns we electrified, I then handpainted Morrocan style tiles as an arched tile fountain wall and we found and we made a bubbler California style central fountain with a star shaped low retaining well. All of our Spanish style ironwork was made by superb local craftsmen.
This house and garden was a 15 year undertaking....built and planted slowly with love....it is the crowning achievement of our lives. Thankfully so far we have never had a frost, though one winter there was snow at the tops of the three surrounding volcanoes...no plant loss though...that would break our HEARTS! SO,I understand the passion, care and time it takes to achieve something like this, but it is the one thing in our lives we made purely to please us...and it gives us GREAT joy everyday to,be here! We thank Guatemala everyday for being such a kind and lovely country that welcomes strangers to share its incredible nature.
I am fortunate enough to have visited there in the early years of this 21 st Century, Unforgettable. His imaginative forms inhabiting the fertile unstoppable jungle an interesting dialogue only possible in integral magnificent creative Mexico. I miss you so much, mi corazon😂
Las posas es un lugar tan surrealista y tan hermoso de mi bello México ❤
Me encanta, trasmite mucha paz. Su historia es muy interesante, me encanta
Such a place, met it in 2014 and became a necessity to get lost there each year
Such a beautiful place for a ghost to live in.I would love to go there.
Phenomenal. The NOWNESS series is one of the best I've experienced. Thank you!
Las Pozas is an amazing and magical place! It's one of my favorite places! 🍃🎨✨
Kinda chokes you up a bit, huh? Absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful. Would love to see it in person for the first time on a misty morn.
Love this.it's like fragments of a mansion in the middle of the jungle.I like the juxtaposition of the concrete with nature.this is beautiful.
WOW ! im a long time gardener who enjoys seeing them worldwide, and this is stunning! i especially like combination othe wheathered mossy concrete fancifull shapes winding its way through the lush jungle. i long for tropicals in my house, but most are poisonous to cats.thank you NOWNESS
"There is an aggressive conversation between nature and the sculptures."
Or you could just take it as a remarkable beautiful place.
🤣🤣🤣
Taoïsm explains : White is the color of the metal, it cuts the green. Metal is not growing.
@Eni That was funny, Eni, and why I moved from HOA 15 years ago. When they cut my beloved branches, I had to leave.
Looks like the closest depiction of a real fairy land, not good or bad, not cute or ugly ,just woody animalistic curious magic fairies, it's awesome
This reminds me of the magical worlds in Hayao Miyazaki movies :) anyone else?
It has a view of whenever after human beings disappeared centuries ago, which must have already given lots of inspirations to visual artists and fiction writers!
Decided, it's on my to-visit list now. Las Pozas!
It looks ao magical. I would love to visit
Thank you to creators of this series from all of my heart.
On the contrary, I find the place dark. Beautiful and interesting how the structures unfold with the natural environment, however, it does have a dark edge to it.
Memories of another life or planet or Earth before the moon was installed?.......................... Fabulous in the true meaning of the word! Enjoy
Amazing. 😍 I want to see it some day.
Beautiful. I would love that as my back yard
it opened my eyes, to realize how bad this place is for me, my soul, where i'm living at in this moment and the tears in my eyes is proof i'm feeling right. Las Pozas is so beautiful an idea merged with nature together.
sorry for my bad english, hope you understand what i'm trying to say. We ALL are human beings #LiFE
Your English was near perfect and I feel the same way, are you familiar with permaculture?
I have the documentary about him by Avery Danziger in VHS! I found it on sale years ago from Half Price Books for $1.00. Still have a player. But I didn't really know who he was and was fascinated by his garden then. It's cool for this to come up in my RUclips feed.
One day in the distant future someone will stumble upon this and wonder who created it.
I like the way that he didn't try to manipulate the natural environment, he worked with it. The correlation between the two, is seamlessly stunning
Absolutely Beautiful...Amazing!!
The rock formation and..scuptural pieces are so embraced by the garden..it looks so secretive...being mysterious and beautiful at the same time..thankyou for this offering..🌴
Seems like both concrete and nature coexist here in the most unthinkable beauty and glory. Lucky are those who work there.
Mesmerizing...
I'm so glad you shared this video with us
Extraordinario lugar, es increíble cómo la vegetación, el agua y las esculturas conviven y armonizan entre sí creando un ambiente místico y sublime. Adoro ese lugar.
Surreal, magical unique. 🌳🍀🌱🔩🌿🌴🌱🔩🌾🌳🌲🔩🌵🍃🔩🔩🌱🌳🔩🌳🍀🍃🌵🌱🌳🌿
How lovely. Thank you. I would love to be able to visit this amazing space
The picture at 3:57 is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
Absolutely amazing! One can sense the structures are breathing!
It's so very special. Thank you.
😍 Thank you Toby Amies. Your cinematography revealed the best of this wonderful magic garden. 💖
Wow! What an incredible and beautiful place!
THANK YOU FOR SHARING! MAGNIFICENT!
Oh my, those monsteras and strelitzias are to die for!
Amazing space 😳💚
That place is so magical. Very inspiring. I hope that I can visit it some day.
🌳Organic Architecture……[💚Jungle Gardens ]what’s an amazing idea ✨
I wish the future we can focus more on saving our environment. I think art is harmony there’s no need for strictly lines/rules/shapes…we need to be humble to the nature beyond the limitation……🧚♂️feel the aliveness spiritual breath with us 🌿🦢🦚so beautiful:)
💖thanks for sharing 🌸
it's beautiful, unfortunately, the people of xilitla does not take care about the growing of the town. they pollute alot. specially a very near river of las pozas. another concern is the corruption and the implied number of hotels that are been builded, they are razing the forest and killing the beautiful animal species. please, help.
I’m in the process of selecting a place to well, um to die. I’m not suicidal but am at the end of a disease that kills the host (me). This looks so dang peaceful. It’s a very tough decision to make honestly.
Annie
that's a shame, when I was there 10 years ago, there was very little development
@@charliehobson33 this is true for many of the best places in Mexico. I am grateful I had the chance to see many of them before the development started.
@@blondelebanese9922 the world is yours so set the bar high and may will be yours forevermore, the universe eternal💗
@@blondelebanese9922 .... Annie, I hope you are okay ... when the time comes, I hope you find your best resting place.
gorgeous and serene
The Angels would love it here. They would cherish this and nurture it and treasure it for life and they would praise their holy God in Heaven here and it would make them so happy. 😍🥰😘
It's beautiful. A thousand years from now since it's stylized people will wonder what civilization it's from.
This place is AMAZING
I would gladly haunt that garden with him!
Awesome! so glad I found this channel....🤗
Incredible, so mystical ❤️
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL and Amazing 👏👏 I want to go there ! 🙏💕🥰
Amazing place!! Like a dream
We have been there....it felt by very Tolkien....Sir Edward James was pretty amazing.....🙏
The meditative music in the background is as beautiful as the video...where can we find it !?
It was a bespoke commission by Ian Carter at www.fromhererecords.com
Magical!
I loved to see this truly wonderfull place
Beautiful place.
Guauuu.... Interesting
Lovely place!
I don't understand when people say, "humbled by nature"i always feel " uplifted, free, oneness, and unrestrained flowing love" maybe it is only in the name giving ?
I MUST go there.
Agreed. As long as the keeper takes care of it, it would be a beautiful place to be eternally.
I loved this. Thank you.
Beautiful 😍
Reminds me of the uniqueness of Hearst’s Castle and how a fortunate man had money to play with and decided to create art.
Fantastic
It's a dream place
I can't think of a better place to haunt! haha such a passion for this place.
In the far future when our time is a list civilization archeologists are going to find this and be so confused trying to figure out what things were used for and where those stairs were supposed to lead to xD
Most probably they'll credit it to aliens 😑
Pure Genius !
❤
Shame the voice recording is so low and muffled (he’s off-mic 🙁). Otherwise lovely video. Well-spoken and descriptive as he introduces the question of private vs public.
hermoso lugar
The place to be. ❤️
Thank you 🧜🏻♀️
I am Montagnard jarai live in USA hope one day I go to visit this garden.
*Like a lost civilization* that build statues, instead of building infrastructure.
I'd love to buy land and build a small community who desire to have our homes merged with nature like this. Maybe 10 homes or so. No cars or driveways, just a small gated parking lot and trails.
That would be amazing! I will buy property when you do! 😉😊
Families were meant to stay close together. Clans and tribes
I want to own a campground by the beach. That's my retirement dream. Great minds think alike

와 게임속 CG인줄 알았네요. 정말 너무 멋져요. 비현실적으로. 코로나가 종식되면... 죽기전에 꼭 한번 가보고 싶습니다.
I was there in 1998.
2:09 It's the sentience of the plants.
WOW
Great video, but the background music is too loud
Потрясающее место! Спасибо за русские субтитры
Several years ago i visited "Xilitla" in la huasteca of San Luis Potosi.
im 16, but i was around 9-11 years old when visiting this place, where here in the video is called "Las Pozas", everyone in the trip referred to it as " Los Jardines de Edward James" or "Edward James Gardens", anyways a truly vivid memory from here is that my brother 11-13 saw a fully naked female tourist walk down past him, and it was hillarious cause my uncles made him think he lost a part of his virginity :)
But apart from that is:everything within la huasteca is truly an amazing site/view to witness in real person, nothing like it
Nice
I'd love to just get lost in there for hours xx
Bucket list or future home!
This place in Mexico looks like an elven city from Lord of the rings...
Publius Horatius Clocles the Lord of the Rings were filmed in New Zealand Goofy
@@nativelatinosfooktrump5348 chill bro he said "LOOKS" not "IS" lol
I was literally thinking of Amon Hen the entire video.
It Is!
I know I was thinking the same thing. Might dress up as an elf and take a picture there
I always love to look at it now how does one get to see it how far ia it from mexico is it dangerous to get there
The garden (nature) is in charge and we are just passing through....
God, I want to be there ❤
Must go to Inhotim-Brasil
