I took that train some years ago, and I can say with confidence that it is the most underrated thing to do in Mexico. I've traveled throughout the country and it is by far the most beautiful journey you can make. It will take you from up in the mountains, through the desert and the canyons, all the way to the beach. Just breathtaking.

I agree with you as I have traveled el chepe… the landscape is spectacular and so is the train ride… Personally I preferred the journey from Los Mochis to Divisidero (Halt at the copper canyon) and then take the train to creel or chihuahua

It is undoubtedly worth travelling experience which is not forgotten in a lifetime. Thanks and best Regards Sir for showing us this great adventure... 43:05

Trainfan87 : I'm an Indian housewife. I never visited abroad and perhaps cannot be able to visit abroad in the rest of my life. But it seems that I, myself, am travelling and enjoying through this video captured by you. It's an amazing as well as dream-travelling. How spectacular, incredible and gorgeous travelling side by side of this scenic copper canyon railway from mountain to Pacific Ocean. Thank you for shooting this video. I also would like to thank, salute and pay my sincere gratitude to all engineers and workmen who crafted and fabricated this so long railway track. Thank you once again for uploading as well as sharing this enchanting video with us.

What a kind comment of yours.
Don`t be sad - for private reasons I have been travelling a lot during the last ten years and it is not very entertaining, compared to the times 30, 40 years before:
everywhere people look alike, dress alike, behave alike and everywhere they yell into their smartphones. I have often thought that the nicest way to journey is nowadays by watching beautifully filmed videos like this one. You have no nasty neighbours that talk loudly all the time about things that are absolutey uninteresting to you, no smell of ugly food, you get it pure and easy. I always wanted at least to visit the Taj Mahal, but I am afraid that I will not be happy with thousands of people around (see above).

@@user-yp2mw2ko9k I can understand and feel your thoughts. The reasons of which as you have told are nothing but poverty, population and illiteracy. I would like to request you to come to our country, in India, for atleast once to visit only 3 places viz. 1. The Taj Mahal, 2. The Ajanta Caves and 3. The Ellora Caves. (There are so many Temples, Mosques, Churches, Museums hither and thither in India as well as also in Europe, in America and in Africa.) With love from India.....

😀 As I watch this video again I return back to the first time into the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains. It was 40 years ago I crossed the mountains from the east to the west following the rail line when possible or just 2 track roads. Our group of 8 vehicles and with only topo maps without any roads marked, on it we achieved the crossing in 12 days. It was on another trip a few years later I took the first train adventure across the mountains and canyons by rail. In my 100+ adventures into the Majestic Barrancas del Cobre(on 80 trips I added the El CHEPE). I have been working for over a year training my replacements they will graduate in the spring of 2024. This will be my last and at 75 years young it is just time!
This is a experience some of us can not get enough of! There is also so much more to see then just the train. Plan on extra weeks to explore, you will not be sorry you experienced this amazing place.

our family took the train from El Fuerte to Creel and back again in 1997. From lowland jungle to the oak and pine-forested mountains and canyons at the top and back down again. An amazing ride. Just don't pay any attention to the demolished railcars, which littered the ground below many of the trestles. the present-day train cars appear MUCH more modern than the ones we rode. And the gondola is a new attraction. And the story about the corn beer are true!. I look forward to returning again.

I took this trip 40 years ago and one of our party met a vacationing RR employee and he invited us to the engine and the engineer let us pull the whistle/horn. A couple of our group even stepped out to be outside the engine in the front.
I feel ok saying this after 40 years because no one's job would be imperiled.
It was a blast. Creel was a cool overnight stay, we met some locals and they took us for a drive.
We went in October, still quite hot at the coast, so we did not bring adequate warm clothes for when we were in the mountains. Brrr at night.

Yeas ago, I took a train from Nuevo Laredo to Mexico City. It was in the 100s when we started, and then we traveled some thousands of miles south. When we got out of the train, I was shocked that it was cold there. Mexico City is so high that it has a very cool climate. And out of the train station window, we could see their signature snowcapped volcano, rising much higher.

when I rode it, I was a bit boggled by the guys with machine guns that rode outside the engine and between the cars - but I guess people who take it can be pretty rich compared to the surrounding countryside, so it's bit of a magnet for robberies maybe? it was super beautiful country.

Some years ago some bandits robbed the train and shot a tourist who thought it was actors. The drug cartel hunted them down never to be seen again. They didn't want all the attention it would bring. So actually it's the most protected train ride in the world protected by the drug cartel not those guards on the train

Sadly the tarahumara women they portrayed were wearing tennis shoes, which are not the typical tarahumara sandals, they sported nicely washed hair.
Those are signs of staged items for this film. Only a few of the tarahumaras living closer to the touristic spots are here. Not the real deal.

This is after the rainy season I would expect September or October. The green foliage and the way people are dressed this is the most likely time of the year.

Reforestation programs were put in place and new growing trees will absorb way more carbon dioxide as they grow kind of how young human beings have a fast metabolism compare to adults in their 30s. There’s a great deal of care and consideration for the natural habitat of wildlife. It’s a historical project and books will be written and shared through the engineering society worldwide. Es un honor estar con Obrador!

Okay, except that adding a single millimeter in diameter to an ancient huge tree is way more wood than adding 2 cm to a tiny young tree-

@@jackprier7727 more wood on a tree is only relevant to the lumber industry and although ancient trees are of great value this is not a considerable amount of deforestation taking in account the life changing structural developments. We’re talking about efficiency in transportation of the public and trade goods an important requirement in any modern society. Moving forward is the only option and it takes a brave man like Andres Manuel Lopes Obrador whose been fighting against all odds. Remember “Somos los mejores hijos de Mexico”

We stayed overnight in Creel, a week in Chihuahua, toured Pancho Villa's mansion, and I remember a long stop in Cuatemoc where we went to the local open market on the return.

You can get off of the train and spend the night along the route. You can go one way or round trip on the train. We drive into Creel or El Furete to pick up the train. Then ride one way then return another time. We then cross into the canyons with vehicles and cross the Sierra Madre by our vehicles. With 100+ adventures into the area safety is not a concern.

The everyday Mexican people are friendly and down to earth. If you break down when traveling through Texas, you are MUCH more likely to have Spanish speaking folks stop to help you than any Anglo.. they’re just good people.
