    Happily Ever After has a very clear theme and message everyone can relate to in their own way. I remember looking over and seeing my typically stone coke father in tears during “Go the Distance.” Enchantment didn’t have that clear theme, there was no connection. The music was blah. The only good part was the beginning they added with Mickey and Walt. I remember getting through COVID lockdown watching Happily Ever After in my living room in tears hoping life would get back to normal and I know so many others did the same. I can’t wait to go back and see it again, the last time I saw it was in August 2021 when I thought it was never coming back.

    • @whitneymouse
      @whitneymouse Год назад

      The exact opposite feeling for me. The HEA theme is “be in a couple”. That excludes a LARGE portion of parkgoers. Enchantment was intended as a love letter to all dreamers and parkgoers, as well as cast. It’s each individual person making Disney World “the magic.” HEA has incredibly weak music, as well. I feel like most people complained before they had even seen it and Disney capitulated. I think HeA is the least inclusive of the three shows I’ve seen and in no way is it “something everyone can relate to”.

      @@whitneymouse I can tell you, having watched that show on all 3 opening nights, and more times than i ever watched Enchantment, there’s nothing about this show that screams “couples only.”

    • @liu7052
      @liu7052 Год назад +1

      This exactly. Everything in HEA just flows and meshes together well while undergoing a consistent theme that reaches into many people's hearts. Despite the fireworks technically being broken down into different sections, they all come together to represent one's journey throughout life in a motivational sense. This is how I interpreted each section:
      *First section:*
      *The beginning of a journey by putting yourself out into the new world to chase your dreams.*
      *Second section:*
      *The friends you made throughout the journey and the fun times you had without any worries.*
      *Third section:*
      *The loved ones you cherished, whether it's friends, family, S.O.; the ones who stuck with you and cared about you while helping you along the journey.*
      *Fourth section:*
      *The battles and struggles you had to face during your journey as they try to stop you from reaching your dreams or goals.*
      *Fifth section:*
      *Your rise from the struggles you faced as you begin to believe in yourself; your continuous effort to continue pushing forward and to go the distance in order to reach your goal; you are the hero of your own story.*
      *Final section:*
      *Your life journey never ends; you continue on to reach further beyond; you can fly to reach your dreams and beyond.*
      Despite the HEA fireworks having six different sections, they all represent one's journey to believe in themselves to accomplish their dreams. Honestly it's basically a wonderful form of storytelling about life and motivation.
      As for Enchantment, feel free to correct/inform me as I am open minded, but I didn't really get any deep meaning from it other than "You are what truly makes the magic". That's a good idea for a theme on paper, but I didn't really feel as attached to the firework show as I did with HEA. The lightings and use of fireworks were great, but I just didn't get that feeling which makes me truly feel "I am what makes this magical". Nothing within me felt magical, and nothing made me feel like I was helping with keeping the Disney magic ongoing other than being there in the park. If I were to give them the benefit of the doubt, I guess I could say that that was actually intended by saying "We're thankful for you coming to Disneyworld to help keep the magic alive, so here's a cool firework show as a reward". Don't get me wrong, the Enchantment fireworks show has some good stuff, especially with the Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse appearance along with pretty good use of fireworks, but it just doesn't feel as emotional or powerful or fluid as HEA.

    • @whitneymouse
      @whitneymouse Год назад

      @@OTownNews I can tell you as someone who has also seen it multiple times, shoehorning in a section on “friendship” that doesn’t fit the rest of the show and sticks out like a sore thumb doesn’t make it magically not MOSTLY about romantic relationships 🙃 the vast majority of examples they use are characters whose happily ever after is being in a relationship. When 90% of the the HEAs end the same way, that’s how the theme will be interpreted and I am not alone in that assessment.
      Also, you’re admitting you’re complaining about a show you didn’t see. Cool. Love that for me and the other people who love Enchantment. So glad we’re losing a better show because people who hadn’t seen it complained loudly.

      @@WDWNT I respectfully disagree. If you remove the projections on the castle, the show is greatly diminished. For example, the first firework doesn't fire until after the 2nd verse and 2nd chorus of the song. If you don't have the Merida scene, the Incredibles scene, the Genie scene, etc etc etc, the fireworks alone are dull and make less sense. Take away the image of the sorcerer hat in Wishes and nothing is lost. Wishes is a seamless story with a beautiful orchestration weaving throughout (and not a single element of pre-recorded IP). The transitions come from the narration and the fireworks. The transitions in Happily come from the castle projections. I'm not saying I don't like Happily. It is magnificent. But to say it isn't dependent on the projections is just not accurate.

    I was singing along to every part in my head. You don't need the audio of the show to hear what's happening. I intentionally delayed my moms and my annual trip to late April this year because of the combo of Tron and this beautiful show returning (and it's a good way to celebrate my 30th birthday). And I know I'm biased - I did my CP fall of 2017 to Spring 2018...so this show was my show. But. Having seen Wishes a few times growing up...wishes is the nostalgic choice which I understand. This is the better choice. This show hits every emotional beat perfectly. It feels like a movie. It feels like the most Disney thing. And one of the biggest shortcomings to me of Enchantment was how it lost that. It never felt like a story of it's own. And not including Go The Distance was a supreme oversight just for the emotional payoff that song can bring. I'm so glad HEA is getting back the spot it deserves. Hopefully we get her for another decade. I would love nothing more than to keep returning to this show and bawling my eyes out, through to my 40th birthday.

    I don't understand people saying HEA only resonates with couples. The show isn't about falling in love per se. In fact, they go out of their way to say that you find your own Happily Ever After by discovering who you are inside. Heck, it's in the opening dialogue:
    And they all lived happily ever after. Each of us has a dream, a heart’s desire. It calls to us. And when we’re brave enough to listen, and bold enough to pursue, that dream will lead us on a journey to discover who we’re meant to be. All we have to do is look inside our hearts and unlock the magic within.
    The theme is how knowing who you are and listening to your heart is what leads to happiness. THAT'S why you see people crying. Because it's an intensely personal and empowering theme set perfectly to music that ties it all together.

    • @whitneymouse
      @whitneymouse Год назад

      It VERY HEAVILY implies that “happily ever after” involves being in a couple. They shoehorned in a section on friendship, but the show as a whole is overwhelmingly packed with romantic couples. That is why we are saying it largely resonates with couples. The people crying at the end of the show tend to be people who are part of a couple. I don’t understand why people claim to not know the theme of Enchantment, but those people exist 🙄 long story short, they’re never going to please everyone. I’m hoping this is temporary and they’re working on a new show because I’m ticked.

    • @ErkyDoodle
      @ErkyDoodle Год назад

      That’s just completely untrue. Love is only one of several themes, including adversity, friendship, triumph, etc. The climactic scenes begin with Mufasa saying “Simba, remember who you are…” and “Go the Distance” followed by “You Can Fly”. I feel like if you think this show is solely about falling in love, it explains why you don’t like it.

    • @whitneymouse
      @whitneymouse Год назад

      @@ErkyDoodle I’ve seen the show multiple times. I have never come away from it thinking it’s about “overcoming adversity.” How do Lion King and Hercules end? 🙃 they found a spouse and that’s what gave them the courage to do whatever they needed to do. The OVERWHELMING majority of the characters and music used for that show are about romantic relationships and end with a romantic HEA. Shoehorning in a song from Jungle Book and Toy Story does not negate the other 13-14 minutes of repeatedly being shown couples. It’s geared towards people who are in a relationship.

The most awesome build up to any nighttime show I've seen. And you are completely correct that it's the music that makes it or breaks it. A perfect example (for me) is that the DHS Fantasmic I now find superior to the DL version, as the chopping of the original score at DL has destroyed what was once a perfect piece of music. The DHS version (other than the slight deviation with the new scene) retains it's original soundtrack which is the emotional anchor to the show. Great review!

RDCT is timeless because it features E-tickets in the sky taking you through all the beloved attractions you visited over and over again, narrated by Julie Andrews while Walt himself welcomes you as tinker bell douses the castle in a wonderful world of color rendition. RDCT obviously doesn’t have all the modern bells and whistles along with broad exposition of HEA but it’s really the only fireworks show aside from Epcot Forever that was ever so park specific. I think about the guests who may not have seen the newer Disney films that are in HEA, WJ, etc--RDCT is different because everyone/anyone can identify with every single moment in the show because it’s right there in that “enchanted place where story book heroes and daring adventurers wait around every corner”.

The second best, Wondrous Journey at Disneyland for the company’s 100. Then maybe then Happily Ever After. Sorry Tom you are wrong on this one. I will Admit it’s the best Fireworks WDW has done, but definitely not better than the two Disneyland shows I have mentioned.

It introduced fireworks in the round for the parks, it introduced projection mapping, and it had by far the best storytelling of and Disney fireworks show to date. Period. Did it take music from wishes, yup sure did, probably because the music from wishes is so perfect for Disney parks. Oh and do not even get me started on why can’t WDW have a Mickey firework incorporated into their shows like Disneyland has done since the 40th for almost 30 years now. Yeah sorry. Now that Paris Disneyland is starting to get more and more confidence with night time drones I wonder why at the Magic Kingdom they have'nt introduced any yet? HEA vs Enchantment
    The story of HEA is so much more relatable. Everyone goes through hard times and has overcome them. Also, YES! that crescendo to tink flying is perfection. The music grabs your attention immediately and starts to pull on your emotions.
    The story of Enchantment is selfish and self serving about how the person is better than the greater good. When everyone is special then no one is. The projections were inferior and the mapping was terrible. There were portions where you couldn't tell what was supposed to be happening because images were cut off and didn't work with the castle shape.

    • @whitneymouse
      @whitneymouse Год назад

      You fully missed the point of Enchantment. It’s each person brings something to the table that collectively makes magic possible. HEA is selfish, imo, because it’s largely aimed at being in a relationship. I do not understand where this show is interpreted as “overcoming adversity”. It’s find a spouse and then you’ll be good. Wishes and Enchantment were both about us all collectively coming together in the parks to make magic as a group. HEA is more about an individual journey than the other two ever were.

The music was terrible. The first time I seen and heard Enchantment, I turned and looked at my husband and said WTF was that! 😒 The minimal fireworks makes me think it was all about budget cuts to save money since that's been their theme for the last few years. DISCLAIMER: I LOVE HEA but I have one main issue with it. In my opinion, the biggest downfall of HEA is what I think was Enchantments biggest strength- The buildup to the end. In HEA, after tinkerbell flies the show is practically over. The big chorus coming in is stepped on by all the clapping during tink flying so you cannot hear it very well and next thing you know it, the show is over. With Enchantment, the line “let your imagination flyyy… cuz it’s there inside” is drawn out long enough that tinkerbell is done flying and people are done cheering in time for the big chorus to come back. Then there’s the big key change which almost acts as a second climax before the big ending. But one of Enchantments biggest downfalls is how Mickey saying “you are the magic” at the end ruins all of that buildup. HEA’s ending is soooo much better than enchantments but enchantments buildup to the ending is killer.

    • @OTownNews
      @OTownNews Год назад +2

      Counterpoint: I’d argue the polar opposite. HEA’s finale slowly builds up as Tink flies through the keyhole, around the Hub, and ever so gently around and up the castle until the right moment that she flies over the park. We relish that moment in a multicolor fever pitch, and it’s not too long to overstay, not too short to be anticlimactic.
      Enchantment, in contrast, just has Tink start flying from the middle of the castle, mid verse, straight up in oddly placed animation, and then over the park. While I can appreciate the pixie dust turning everything in sight gold, that finale is literally the longest in any Disney fireworks spectacular, but it doesn’t hit as well. And the only saving grace of that show is Mickey Mouse looking around in awe and making that proclamation. Same job as Peter Pan ending DLF. (Only “all of this is yours…forever!” hits harder)
      IMO, HEA’s finale is probably the best in any fireworks show - Disney or otherwise.

    HEA song is very nice. I think it captures some of what Disney fans love about Disney. At least that is one of the reasons why I love Disney. No matter what happens to Disney characters in the movies, there is always a happily ever after for the characters at the end of the movie. Enchantment just did not get the Disney message in my opinion. “You are the magic” is not really on point for Disney branding. It is the cast members that are the magic not the individual guests…even what Walt himself recognized.

    • @whitneymouse
      @whitneymouse Год назад

      In what way is that not the branding? When they announced the show, they said the song was written by a former cast member and dedicated to the cast. Additionally, it’s saying each person, cast or guest, adds to the magic because we love the parks and want it to be great. This is a silly criticism, imo. The song is objectively better, message or not. The music is objectively better.

    I know I’m the minority, but HEA is the worst of the three shows I’ve seen. I’m genuinely mad Enchantment is gone. It is my favorite. I think the song for HEA is weak and the projections were overwhelming. I would get the excitement if Wishes were coming back, but this is sad news for me. Definitely not my “greatest show of all time” 😒
    Edit: the things people are complaining about in the comments that are specific are the same racist things people were complaining about when the show came out. Just say you don’t want a show that focuses on a character of color because you’d rather they use “Go the Distance” for the millionth freaking time 🙄 just say you don’t want a Black woman narrating it and that’s why it’s “soulless” to you. Just say you want more of the old movies Disney is trying to shift away from instead of newer ones that appeal to children now. The point is, most of the people who complained never saw it in person before going off at Disney about how bad it allegedly was.
