Thank you so much for this video! It was very helpful and your breakdown of cerebral palsy was great! I also appreciated the final portion on best practice. As a student, it can be tough to know exactly which interventions to focus on (especially for CP in my experience), so your explanation of interventions with strong evidence was really helpful. I also think it is really important to not just study for the NBCOT for the purpose of memorizing facts, but to always put the information into context and the real world, which is just what this video did! The provision of this context helps me remember things more clearly and effectively, especially thanks to it not just being rote fact memorization. Thank you for all you do for OTs!

Good, general CP information. However, I would encourage anyone watching to stop at 14:30 as the rest is opinion and EBP information that is NOT part of the NBCOT. This information would serve better as a separate video (OT Dude: EBP for CP, for example) instead of being mixed with Entry Level information that is pertinent to the NBCOT.
To discuss some of OT Dude's disappointment with textbooks not having current information, that's just how textbook publication works. It takes years to write and then publish any textbook, so some information is at least 5-7 years out of date. However, in research this isn't really a bad thing, as the more articles published on a topic helps readers to weigh the evidence. If you want the latest information, keep reading peer-reviewed journals, keeping in mind that the latest "evidence" doesn't have the history to back it up.

While some parts toward the end are opinion like you mentioned, the majority of the rest of the video are actual evidence based practices based on a systematic review. So the part where you tell people to skip are *not* entirely opinion. I highly do no recommend skipping the end if you want to be a well-informed and ethical holistic OT.
I would argue that the latest EBP is pertinent to practice as an OT anyways...it's not like you get certified and that's it - you practice as an OT. And in the video I mention how the research shows some approaches can even be dangerous. And unfortunately, not all OT programs teach the latest EBP. Some important points I do make at the end include taking top down, being family centered, etc., which are also important considerations in the OT process when it comes to answering questions on the NBCOT.
So yeah, you can go ahead and skip this if you just want to pass the boards, but as most OTs are into pediatrics, skipping this would be doing yourself a disservice to your clients and their families.
As this is a NBCOT video, it's also possible that the newer NBCOT questions *are based on more EBP approaches* (as it should, otherwise, what are they testing us on then?!) compared to old "textbook" or exam review book materials. If I were a student reviewing for this exam, i would rather have the knowledge of what the actual research says than be naive to it just to save a few minutes and not watch it. Just my 2c.

@@OTDUDE I'm only differentiating between NBCOT information and Other. I completely agree with the importance of keeping up with EBP when working. However, since this is an NBCOT study guide, other information may confuse/ overwhelm some students.
@@grimmgnarly I kind of see your point, but in my opinion, that shouldn't be a reason you don't learn about the latest EBP, *even* for the NBCOT. Intervention planning and assessment is what you'll be tested on.
According to the Domains in the NBCOT Exam handbook, they even state:
"Domain 04: Competency and Practice Management - 15% Manage professional activities of self and relevant others as *guided by evidence*, regulatory compliance, and standards of practice to promote quality care."
And the purpose of the NBCOT exam:
"The primary purpose of the NBCOT certification exams is to protect the public interest by certifying only those candidates who have the necessary knowledge of occupational therapy to practice"
I guess *necessary knowledge* can be open to interpretation and is technically what the test makers deem it to be, but IMO, I would classify EBP in here. :)
But yeah if I make more future exam prep videos I'll try to be more concise and leave out all opinions.
