@@dazzmetcoll3843 I found it was a bit boxy and rattled. i think i got a dud as it was a return and i got it cheaper. so i returned it and got a ALTO TS310. i didnt want the heavy 12 or the extra bass. i have found the TS310 very good and have had a jam with it already and was good.
Is there enough low end to drop some bass synth bombs and what not? Or sustain deep bass / synth drones? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure out what to pair with boss sy-1000.
@JoeBoomerMusic it has a LOT of bass, but the type of bass isn't all that pleasant. I wish they made an FRFR-110. The FRFR-108 might be good for bass if you add an eq pedal.
I try to watch Pete’s gear reviews, but am invariably so knocked out by what a soulful, ‘tone-y’ player he is that I pretty much forget about the gear… he is an amazing musician

People are saying an amp modeler going directly into frfr will only sound comparable to a tube amp into a 4x12 cab , if I go modeler into a physical power amp and then into a 4x12 physical guitar cabinet. I got mine about couple months ago. I was skeptical about FRFR cabinets and preferred all the time used a real cabinet which was my fender deluxe reverb real amplifier. It was all the somehow warm to me. But with this cabinet, i was blown away. It's perfect warm, realistic tone and absolutely lighter than my amplifier as cabinet usage. I have Kemper Toaster Powered version. But this cabinet has its own pre-amp, you could even use that un-powered Kemper or equivalent units without an external pre-amp. This cabinet also has very nice low end. It has perfectly balanced eq. Thanks for the video Pete!
I love my Headrush 8 inch version. Very portable and powerful. Works great on guitar with my helix stomp. I actually use it as a vocal monitor as well. Easily keeps up with a loud full band. Amazing value for the money.
I will also say that they will "reveal" how you set up your tones on the Helix. So you will most likely benefit from tweaking the EQ of your presets or IR's. I think you will find dialing back higher frequencies and treble will help things out a bit. Same can be said for adding lows.
I just received my Fractal FM3 and thinking a couple of the 8”s would be nice. I pack my gear back and forth to work at the laboratory I work at. While my lab tests cook I play. Thanks Pete!

I have 2 of the FRFR112 Headrush cabs and run my Positive Grid Bias Processor head along with all 3 Bias Pro pedals through 1, with the other as a live backup or wedge monitor if needed, and they are fantastic sounding and reacting like a guitar cab with massive head room and a real guitar cab type thump and am so glad I switched to this all digital rig, amazing combination

I run a similar rig with my Kemper except I am using two Yamaha DXR10 FRFR powered monitors. Huge sound. The tube amps I have not yet sold are collecting dust. Important to note that it really takes two of these to do the job. I was using one and liked it enough to buy a second. The difference is truly night and day. One just didn't move enough air and cover enough area. Never going back to tube amps.
I've been using one of these little babies for a while now and I love it.. my rig is a bunch of drive pedals going into the C.A.B. M+ with the virtual power amp on.. I'm using your Suhr IRs Pete.. very nice IRs! and then right into the Headrush FRFR108.. like you said sounds great at any volume.. when I finally get the modeler I want (NDQC) I'll get another Headrush and run stereo on stage.. woohoo!
I go through the 12" version of this . My friend has one and I use it when I rehearse at his place. Seeing as this is aimed directly at guitarists I think the volume controls would be better if they were located on the top for easier access on stage...

Couldn’t agree more about the Headrush FRFR series monitors. The 112 model is a MONSTER and brings the pant-flap to the modeler/profiler experience. Oh, and they’re dirt cheap! Thanks for the continued inspiration, Pete.

I've used a set of these for about a year and a half and I will say they are a great bang for the buck. They have a pretty nice amount of bass for 8" drivers. They were great with my Headrush Gigboard. In your quiet room, though, they do have a little hiss at idle. Just means your not loud enough.
@@screwmerunnin The reason I went with the FRFR-108 is its size and weight (less than 20 lbs). I can carry my guitar on my back, the GX-100 in one hand and the speaker in the other. I'm getting too old to lug a whole bunch of gear between gigs and jams.😅 But you might prefer the bigger sound of the 112.

There are many articles out there about the advantage of using a little monitor when going direct. The monitor helps the low end thump of the guitar through the acoustic coupling of the monitor and guitar. And, like Pete says, it makes it possible to get feedback on the guitar, which can be important.
Yeah the feedback can actually be controlled due to the more directional nature of FRFRs. So can lean into it more or less as needed. Actually pretty great solution.
I'm running my BOSS GT_1000 through two of those and I can't believe the sound that comes out of those little things. I am in a small room and yeah they react really well at reasonable volume. And, did I mention that they are extremely reasonable price so you can by two and get great stereo effect. Great video as usual from Pete, smooth yet biting when you need to be.
Just what the doctor ordered. I picked up a Pod Go and when I want to run a cab I've been putting into the power amp section of my '94 Evil Twin. I was suspicious of the Headrush stuff because of the small speakers. This helped a lot. Many thanks from the Bay! MK
I'm using it with my Two Notes le lead & Torpedo CAB and it's killer! Using my old Pod X3 Live as midi controller and for all the delays, reverbs, mods and other fx + digitech Drop and Freqout and all of this is giving me plenty of pleasure and happiness without breaking my back! 😊🎸🎤🤘
I've been on the fence about these for my Helix floor. Leave it to Pete Thorn to find the right way to show what can be done with most any product. Now, I know that I can trust two of these, or the 112s
I can concur. I think the 12's are just too loud for a bedroom setting. On a stage sure two would be fine or go through the P.A.. An 8 in mono will sound good or in stereo.
I bought a pair of these just before the lockdown *insert sad trombone sound*. I got to use them once live, and they've been sitting in the closet ever since.
@@Zordid0 I was only ever able to use them once in a live situation, a small club of about 200. Powerwise, they were waaaay more than enough. I could have gotten away with one easily. I was happy with how they sounded, but again, that was just one go with them, so I haven't really put them through their paces. I used single one for full band practice, and it was great there. Just for more context, I played through them with my Helix LT. Soon hopefully I'll be able to really start using them, over a year later. lol
I had a pair. I felt that on the ground, they could get quite boomy in the low end. I sold one and kept the other. I use it exactly how Pete Thorn suggested, when I use IEMs. I also use it for smaller gigs. I think I like it better with only one as a opposed to running two in stereo. For some reason, two just sounded washed out on stage.
On the ground boominess, you nailed it. I am using simple folding Schertler S-2 stands and they kill that boom nicely. Try 3 in WDW, use the 2 outer cabs for spatial stuff at lower volume and the D as the main tone and that thin sound will go away and you'll get a great tone. Seen so many others do it the other way (big wet cabs and a smaller dry cab) which makes no sense if the plan is to use the awesome dry tone you have as central and the stereo cabs as augmentations.
Great demo Pete! I needed to see this! I just purchased a Two Notes Captor X to use with my Friedman Smallbox amp, and I was looking to get studio monitors. This just proved to me that I need to get this speaker!
The most crucial point you brought up is the feedback/resonance question, which you may be able to achieve sitting close to your cabs, but in a live environment, not so. I love the idea of FR guitar and was desperate for it to work. Experimented with it enough, took it on stage a number of times. I could only conclude that cranking it up really loud was the only way to ensure feedback when you needed it; which of course killed the purpose of doing it in the first place.
I'm pairing my 108 with a regular 112 guitar combo. I pan my IR's so they don't go into the guitar amp. The 12 gets my guitar ringing, and the FRFR cab puts some extra sheen on the reverbs and delays. It also adds a little push on the bottom end that's fun as long as you don't overdo it...
I've been using the 12" model since it came out with my Eleven Rack as my fly rig, & I bought the new Mooer GE300 Lite this summer when it came out. They all work really well together! On a whim, I even ran my Yamaha THR10 through it using the headphone out jack....who says you can't play a gig with that great sounding little amp? It sounded great! BTW, did you notice the volume controls actually go to 11?! Lol! I think someone in development had a Spinal Tap moment, love it!
I have 2 of those and a Yamaha analog mixer as my references when making patches for gigs on my helix, pretty spot on, have not had any complains from FOH sound guys, and that’s with no EQ at FOH. It helps dial out a lot of the low end woofs as well as digital high’s... worth the investment, highly recommend it..
I have the Headrush Frfr-108 with Hotone Ampereo modeler. Setup discretely in the living room corner so I always have easy access to play without having a ton of gear in the living room. This setup is great , it does every sound imaginable without the bulk and clutter of a tube amp and pedal board. It's a great tidy do everything package and packs a punch in a small footprint. 2000 watts not really . Certainly not 100 Marshall watts , maybe 18 Marshall watts ;-)

bro... the tone from those hands..yes sure surrounded buy all that technology etc...but it all starts in the hands and in the heart and brother you got a whole lot of both..now as for the headrush speakers...think they sounded realy good and i feel you on the natural interactive feedback..i used some powered speakers from ISP that were similar in nature and sounded amazing..and then i ended up with this monstrosity of a cabinet from them that was a powered 4/12 cabinet..oversized and i think it was about 2,000 watts as well..used it for bass and guitar..sounded crazy good...but the size on these makes them perfect for allot of situations..got a few feeds from the guys at sweetwater on these..but i am a hands on type of guy ..but i live in alaska..so that makes it pretty hard to do that..but that is why i am here...saw the video title..and i knew i could get the goods on these from your channel..i have come to trust your opinion and out look on gear and for that i thank you much....much respect as always and be well brother.
They are great. Ive got a FRFR12 and I'm using a Kempe these days. For my main gig, I go straight to FOH with in ears and use the Headrush to provide some natural feedback and back up in case my in ears go down. For small cover band gigs, I use it as backing and they can get hella loud! Superb bang for your buck!
@@kumasan812 the speaker is powered so use your XLR outs on the Kemper to connect to the XLR inputs on the speaker and use the speaker amplifier. No other equipment needed 😉
Being new to the HX Stomp and only using it on the front end of my amplifier, cant wait to use it on a good FRFR. By the way that was some tasty playing Pete, good job man.
Used to use this with iridium until i switch to orange pedal baby and speaker cab again..... I just missing out of the speaker bloom too much 😅. It's now relegated for my sy1000 setup tho
I have a headrush 108 and line6 powercab 112. Both sound good but completely different. I can get them to sound similar by adjusting the eq on my pod go but when leaving the eq settings the same the speakers are night & day.

I've got the same 2 speakers. If you play live, they are super useful for all kinds of things, can get crazy loud and they sound fantastic.

12" is best for guitar imo. Obviously you get a richer tone. Portability is the only factor excluding price.
I have a 12 headrush I use with a pod go. I think it sounds pretty good. Im sure it will sound even better with you behind the wheel

I can concur. I think the 12's are just too loud for a bedroom setting. On a stage sure two would be fine or go through the P.A.. An 8 in mono will sound good or in stereo.

I bought a pair of these just before the lockdown *insert sad trombone sound*. I got to use them once live, and they've been sitting in the closet ever since.
How was your experience when playing live? These in your room or rehearsing would be great I guess but how about live?
@@Zordid0 I was only ever able to use them once in a live situation, a small club of about 200. Powerwise, they were waaaay more than enough. I could have gotten away with one easily. I was happy with how they sounded, but again, that was just one go with them, so I haven't really put them through their paces. I used single one for full band practice, and it was great there.
Just for more context, I played through them with my Helix LT.
Soon hopefully I'll be able to really start using them, over a year later. lol
that's how I use my old ZT amp, more like a personal monitor, then line out to PA. These speakers do sound better. Thanks!
I had a pair. I felt that on the ground, they could get quite boomy in the low end. I sold one and kept the other. I use it exactly how Pete Thorn suggested, when I use IEMs. I also use it for smaller gigs. I think I like it better with only one as a opposed to running two in stereo. For some reason, two just sounded washed out on stage.
On the ground boominess, you nailed it.
I am using simple folding Schertler S-2 stands and they kill that boom nicely.
Try 3 in WDW, use the 2 outer cabs for spatial stuff at lower volume and the D as the main tone and that thin sound will go away and you'll get a great tone.
Seen so many others do it the other way (big wet cabs and a smaller dry cab) which makes no sense if the plan is to use the awesome dry tone you have as central and the stereo cabs as augmentations.

The sound virtually identical at low volumes, you can hear me at one point take them all the way down to next to nothing...

@@PeteThorn i use it with my pod go and i can confirm this, it sounds really good at any volume, its perfect for home use and small gigs

Great demo Pete! I needed to see this! I just purchased a Two Notes Captor X to use with my Friedman Smallbox amp, and I was looking to get studio monitors. This just proved to me that I need to get this speaker!

i have the 112s. these things sound massive when 2 are run in stereo.
I used to use a 112 as a monitor wedge with my Axe-Fx II and it was killer!
The most crucial point you brought up is the feedback/resonance question, which you may be able to achieve sitting close to your cabs, but in a live environment, not so. I love the idea of FR guitar and was desperate for it to work. Experimented with it enough, took it on stage a number of times. I could only conclude that cranking it up really loud was the only way to ensure feedback when you needed it; which of course killed the purpose of doing it in the first place.
I'm pairing my 108 with a regular 112 guitar combo. I pan my IR's so they don't go into the guitar amp. The 12 gets my guitar ringing, and the FRFR cab puts some extra sheen on the reverbs and delays. It also adds a little push on the bottom end that's fun as long as you don't overdo it...

I've been using the 12" model since it came out with my Eleven Rack as my fly rig, & I bought the new Mooer GE300 Lite this summer when it came out. They all work really well together! On a whim, I even ran my Yamaha THR10 through it using the headphone out jack....who says you can't play a gig with that great sounding little amp? It sounded great! BTW, did you notice the volume controls actually go to 11?! Lol! I think someone in development had a Spinal Tap moment, love it!
running them on 11 might have your drummer explode into flames though.

I've been playing my Helix LT thru an EV powered monitor. It sounds good until you turn it up. Got to get one of these speakers, or two! Thanks, Pete.
I have 2 of those and a Yamaha analog mixer as my references when making patches for gigs on my helix, pretty spot on, have not had any complains from FOH sound guys, and that’s with no EQ at FOH. It helps dial out a lot of the low end woofs as well as digital high’s... worth the investment, highly recommend it..
I have the Headrush Frfr-108 with Hotone Ampereo modeler. Setup discretely in the living room corner so I always have easy access to play without having a ton of gear in the living room. This setup is great , it does every sound imaginable without the bulk and clutter of a tube amp and pedal board. It's a great tidy do everything package and packs a punch in a small footprint. 2000 watts not really . Certainly not 100 Marshall watts , maybe 18 Marshall watts ;-)
Again! I’ve spent countless dollars on everything Pete demos! It never sounds like it does when he plays 😭! People it’s in the heart and in the hands! That said Pete has sold me again😂🤷🏻♂️!

bro... the tone from those hands..yes sure surrounded buy all that technology etc...but it all starts in the hands and in the heart and brother you got a whole lot of both..now as for the headrush speakers...think they sounded realy good and i feel you on the natural interactive feedback..i used some powered speakers from ISP that were similar in nature and sounded amazing..and then i ended up with this monstrosity of a cabinet from them that was a powered 4/12 cabinet..oversized and i think it was about 2,000 watts as well..used it for bass and guitar..sounded crazy good...but the size on these makes them perfect for allot of situations..got a few feeds from the guys at sweetwater on these..but i am a hands on type of guy ..but i live in alaska..so that makes it pretty hard to do that..but that is why i am here...saw the video title..and i knew i could get the goods on these from your channel..i have come to trust your opinion and out look on gear and for that i thank you much....much respect as always and be well brother.

They are great. Ive got a FRFR12 and I'm using a Kempe these days. For my main gig, I go straight to FOH with in ears and use the Headrush to provide some natural feedback and back up in case my in ears go down. For small cover band gigs, I use it as backing and they can get hella loud! Superb bang for your buck!
How would I set up an unpowered Kemper with this Headrush FRFR 108, will it power the Kemper or would I need more equipment?
@@kumasan812 the speaker is powered so use your XLR outs on the Kemper to connect to the XLR inputs on the speaker and use the speaker amplifier. No other equipment needed 😉

Vary cool 😎 that's how IV played guitar for the last ten years now. 2 full range floor monitors .run in stereo. But the head rich sounds killer.

I have a 12 headrush I use with my strymon iridium. It's good. Surprisingly so

Used to use this with iridium until i switch to orange pedal baby and speaker cab again..... I just missing out of the speaker bloom too much 😅. It's now relegated for my sy1000 setup tho
I have a headrush 108 and line6 powercab 112. Both sound good but completely different. I can get them to sound similar by adjusting the eq on my pod go but when leaving the eq settings the same the speakers are night & day.
